One thing I noticed about Tagalog or Filipino Language is that Most(Not All) Filipino/Tagalog songs have notes per syllable and other languages have shorter words than Filipino words that somehow stretch out for several notes. The intricacies of notes per syllable in most Tagalog songs gives a smoother transition going up or down giving songs a delicate and meticulous feel to it; well this works well with Pop/Ballad songs - which are the genre that Filipinos love and somehow convert songs from other genres to convert into.

hello MrSAmmyCam, tbh i'm really just flabbergasted at the fact that the singing culture only happens in the Philippines because most of us think it is rampant in other countries as well (before internet happened of course) since the reason we love singing is to sound as beautiful as the singers we hear on the radio which is mostly international artists. during our primary/elementary and even high school years when teachers (especially homeroom teachers) notice that the lecture is getting boring or if they have something to do other than teach, they organize a little program for the students to showcase our talents. we do singing, dancing, comical skits and/or parody of a certain scene from a movie, either in solo or groups. some students bring guitars at school to sing with friends during breaks too.

And yes IT IS VERY HARD TO get singing career in ph because ITS NORMAL TO HAVE A SINGING VOICE in our country.. the singing competitions here are BRUTAL...Imagine.. a kind of singer who losses here in competition can be a Winner at foreign singing competition... that's a fact... that's how brutally hard the competitions here because the competitors is sooo good...

I'm also a college student in the Philippines and I can say it's pretty common or normal to have a singing sessions and kareoke in a classroom, specially when we're stressed because of projects. And there's always a classmate that will start it and as time goes by, you will just found yourself singing with them and vibing with everyone without realizing it, even our prof don't mind it, he will also singing with us with his made up lyrics, which added to the fun while we work on our plates.

Some schools and probably in their Homeroom Subject, teachers do this to improve social skills between students especially during first day of class. Sometimes teachers let students sing/perform for additional points for grades especially if they get ahead of schedule in their syllabus.

Even at school, students are encouraged to sing- group or solo while teacher has not arrived yet. If the teacher is in the classroom, sometimes he/she will start the singing or play the music for the students to sing/dance. The music is not only during the music class. You will hear music in every subject- not always, but there will be music most of the time. When you wake up in the morning, you will hear music the neighborhood playing music. In the late afternoon/late in the evening, there are group of people, especially, singing outside someone's house, and someone will be playing his/her guitar. There are times you will see group of dancers and rappers gathering outside as well. Filipinos love music so much.

One clip where a student was singing "AKIN KA NALANG" by Morissette, was actually a review session for the licensure examination for teachers. The teacher dancing (Sir Froi) is their review master, definitely one of the best teachers. We do activities such as Zumba and intermission numbers to have a quick refresh, keeping our minds engaged and active in between lessons avoiding dead air and boredom. That student was on fire though 🔥

I do agree with that a lot of filipinos do have talent that can compete in the international stage, however it is difficult to start a career here due to the fact that only a few people control who can perform on stage specially large event. It is very difficult to be heard around here unless you have a backer to promote you. nepotism runs rampart here unfortunately.

if you would qualify these kids for professional careers, you would have to expect the number to reach millions, because there are millions of them considering that the population of the Philippines is over 105 million. I am sure of this, because singing is a talent that, basically, every family has one among the members.
