Concerning the Tramp Stamps perceived "punk authenticity" or lack of it: The Linda Lindas, a US feminist girl-punk quartet out of California, have gotten much positive press. Two of them are sisters and come from a musical family; their dad is an OG California punk drummer and recording engineer. They certainly got support at home - a great record collection, early piano lessons, punk legends as family friends, and a leg up from a Dad who knew the ropes of the music biz. But no one seems to have given them much flak about that, and part of it seems to be that they aren't slickly produced: Dad stayed out of the way, urged good takes, used a light hand on the effects, and let their decently-written, basic, solid music speak for itself.
@suburbanindie3 жыл бұрын
The Sex Pistols were ACTUAL industry plants. Hence, there's no such thing as punk authenticity, just a bunch of overly judgmental fans. The older I get the more I realize it comes down to: listen to what you like and STFU.

Industry plant or not, the music fucking sucks
@Baribrotzer3 жыл бұрын
@@MDHDH-iy7nm I don't like it much myself. And I wonder: Is their slick effects-heavy production meant ironically? Or not? They're so young they might have grown up with music that sounded no other way. They might think that all the Autotuning and beat-squaring is just the way a record is supposed to sound, rather than like a live band on a good night with a clearer mix.
@crnkmnky3 жыл бұрын
@@Baribrotzer I would think that any group with enough _performing_ experience to earn a “badge of authenticity” would strive for a more “live” sound in their production. Then again, I’m assuming Tramp Stamps are marketing to a specific demographic. Which would be the aforementioned young people who’ve grown up expecting computerized, perfect recordings. Avril Lavigne certainly won by delivering punk aesthetics with a pop finish. How “live” should a studio recording be? That has probably been a tug-o-war since the advent of electric microphones. I think of the struggles that bands like The Stooges or Nirvana had approximating an authentic sonic experience within a sterile recording environment.
