I'll sum it up for everyone to digest. Take care of your turbo charged vehicles. Do your maintenance, use quality fluids/parts, drive easy till it warms up/cools down. Turbos are just as reliable as naturally aspirated, but they require a different maintenance process. Simple.

Great info and great video. Just want to make sure I highlighted the major takeaways that will keep the turbo engine as reliable as possible: 1. Always do preventative maintenance on time (3k-5k mile oil change) 2. Driving habits: let it warm up properly and cool down properly. Also, push it every once in a while to help break down carbon buildup 3. Know what kind of turbo engine the car you’re interested in has, as turbo placement can cause issues (like the bmw you mentioned). Could help you avoid costly repairs

I'm a fan of turbo engines that have common sense engineering. My turbo sits right in front and has a cooling duct sitting directly in front of it as well as heat shielding to protect everything else in the engine compartment. If and when the turbo needs replacement it's easily accessible. I like doing maintenance on my vehicles so the extra care isn't a hassle or inconvenience for me. When the full 28lbs of boost hit, all that work is worth it. 4XX HP and under 4 seconds 0-60, out of 2.0 is just plain fun.

Turbo/supercharger/fuel injection history (as like a lot of technological improvements) owes much to military aircraft and the need to get bombers and pursuit aircraft higher and faster. Classic example, the P-51 Mustang ("cadillac of the skies", name the movie) went from a rather poor Allison powered pursuit plane that choked above 20K feet to the Merlin powered master of the skies due to improved ways to get air into the engine.

Ive got no problem with turbos but they go against ( or maybe feed into) the tendency of many people to do adequate ( or any) maintenance for their vehicles. I worked as an auto shop teacher after my Army time and the number of educated people that have NO clue about the thing that is probably the second highest purchase of their lives was astounding. The hobbiest kids in their Subus and Nissans had more clue. Telling one teacher that the turbo in their Volvo was over $1k my cost and seeing their grief caused me to shake my head. Im even against interference , aluminum engines because people cant / wont maintain them. But , if you dont take care of it and it dies, you get to buy a new car or spend lots of money at a dealer and thats a win for auto makers.

Forced induction is always higher maintenance, by logical definition. Better turbo claims are older than Tesla, but still break more than without. Higher demand, higher psi, higher pressure are harder on the engine. Blowers give you low end, turbos give you high end, and EV give you better than both with better reliability and efficiency. Go EV. 👍

I don't want to wait for hours for a battery to fully charge before I can have fun. Especially, if I am not at home with the better charger in comparison to the less maintained public EV chargers. Paying for a battery replacement using the money I didn't use on the maintenance for a gasoline/diesel powered vehicle. Then there's playing Russian Roulette with an EV vehicle before and after an impact. I am aware a gasoline/diesel powered vehicles can have "stuck throttles" (I know people can lie about having that situation with any vehicle. Due to them making the mistake of stepping on the throttle pedal instead of the brake pedal.) and explode on impact but I feel like it's worse with an EV vehicle. It seems like those batteries don't like being hit. Oh yeah, you're giving plenty of unnecessary work for the fire fighters trying to put out your instaflame vehicle! Finally, the cost of repairing a ding on an EV vehicle's battery. Oh wait! Sorry! You have to replace the whole thing becauze that ding could have damaged the battery and they don't want to be sued by you if something goes wrong! You can tell me all you want the chances of all these cons won't happen but what are you going to do for me if they do? Nothing. Yeah, fuck EV vehicles.
