His point wasnt that though, it was that people are binge playing videogames consistently everyday, when they could use all those hours to read the bible or do something positive. You can play videogames, but they guy is saying its evil because it has potential to become an addiction, same with porn, same with drugs, same with social media. You guys are asinine. Yall depicted satan the wrong way, hes not gonna possesses you he literally cant do that unless you're doing some weird ritual shit, in this context satan is technically possessing you (even though I said he doesnt do that) since he planted that seed of addiction that you can either grow and cultivate or eradicate.

As someone who grew up fundamentalist Christian (now non religious), I knew a lot of people who genuinely thought this way. My own parents hated my interest in video games and anime/manga, and went so far as to claim that watching anime opens “demon portals” and invites evil entities into the room. They were far from the only people in the community who thought like that too. Made growing up a nightmare, I learned how to lie and hide all my interests and think they’re lame even to this day because all the adults around me saw all the things I enjoyed as evil. Watching this guy preach his sermon kinda gave me chills.

I lived with an evangelical household and I remember a Veggietales episode (a highly religious children show about talking vegetables in case you're wondering what it is) about Temptation and it goes into video games when it comes to the topic of Temptation. It's general takeaway with it was "There's nothing wrong with playing video games once in a while, but if it's keeping you from doing your chores, they're keeping you from being the kid that God wants you to be." Which if you take the religious part out of it it basically boils down to 'video games are fine as a hobby, just don't let it control your life.' It's kind of sad that a children show about talking vegetables has the most nuanced/ least black and white take that I've seen about this 'video games vs religion' topic. Edit: Grammar fix

I understand that you may disagree with certain religious beliefs and practices, but I must point out that your comment oversimplifies and misrepresents the vast and diverse range of religious beliefs and practices that exist in the world. While it's true that some individuals and organizations may use fear or coercion to promote certain beliefs or practices, it's important to recognize that this is not representative of all religious traditions. Many individuals find comfort and meaning in their religious beliefs, and may approach them with a sense of openness, curiosity, and respect for diversity. Furthermore, it's important to recognize that religious traditions have played a significant role in shaping the cultural, social, and moral fabric of societies around the world. By dismissing these traditions or reducing them to simplistic caricatures, we risk overlooking the richness and complexity of human experience and culture. Ultimately, it's important to approach discussions around religion and spirituality with nuance, empathy, and an openness to diverse perspectives and experiences. If you actually listed out all those things " they say for you to do" you'd find how similary they are to our laws and social decorums. My church just says basically "consume media that doesn't drag you down - that isn't overly violent, sexual, etc. Seek out media that has positive messages, doesn't take too much of your time, and consume it in moderation." Beyond that, we are told to make our own decisions about what we personally consider appropriate to read, watch, listen to, and play. Contrast that with a time I visited another church, and the pastor tried to prove with the Bible that Fortnite specifically was evil. @WasatchWind10 ай бұрын
@@CrimsonAbyss I wish people would understand this better. Saying "I like movies" does not necessarily mean that I like rom coms or westerns, saying "I'm a Christian" doesn't necessarily mean I'm catholic. Religion I'd say is one of the broader categories of human life, so it's odd how some people will make assumptions about what you believe based on a very different denomination from yours - and it's not uncommon for two congregations in one denomination to have very different ways of presenting their beliefs. Such as it is with all groups of people. Judge a person based on their actions and who you actually learn them to be, not on one attribute of them they casually mentioned.

I attended a Pentecostal church service one time and they had a guest speaker. And he had talked about how the minds of children are easily manipulated and we need to be careful of what our kids are exposed to. Overall, he was referring to things more like horror movies or Ouija boards and what not. Some lady raised her hand and said "My son plays Xbox, he won't let me take it. He's possessed" and then everyone started blurting out things that their kids do in their free time. For example: D&D, Minecraft, Mario, Sonic, and even Need for Speed. The guest speaker was trying to clarify what he meant, but everyone was just shouting over him and that dude just walked out and said nothing. Quite funny. Here are my notes, as someone who is still Christian. Video games, movies, toys, books, hobbies have not driven me as far from God as the church has. There are good churches out there, however the tradition that some churches hold is disgusting and they are what will drive the future generations away from having a faith.

I agree. The sermon shouldn't have had such an emphasis on getting babes and more on the spiritual side of things and a more in-depth discussion on "maturity" based more on actions taken than the hobby itself. Honestly, needed more context in the bible to justify this stance. Feels uncomfortable that this was a private low-view sermon that is now being lambasted by a primarily secular community, tbh, but it does make sense why people would.

Honestly, I bet this guy finishes his sermon and goes straight in the back and watches the most hardcore anime and games the rest of the day. It’s like those super homophobic guys that protest too much because they’re defo in the closet.
