For God to use violence to further his plan it makes sense that you would list these. The flood and setting a city on fire is justified because people back were too unholy and corrupt. The vision of the rapture is just like the flood. And sending his son to be crucified was more of God using violence to save and give humanity another chance rather than judge us to certain doom.

The liturgy was changed after the Vatican Council, in the 60's . Both the old testament and the new one are full of examples, but I know what you mean. The whole sermon is very anachronistic
