Our culture here is very Brave New World, yet we do have a fair amount of 1984 going on as well. It isn't a healthy blend for society as a whole.

@@GadflyAcademy I think we're seeing a situation where the Huxleyan (sic?) vision got them about 85% of where they wanted to go and now they are going to have to implement the more outwardly draconian Orwellian vision to finish the job, which will be much easier since resistance has been so greatly reduced. So yeah, I think that what we're seeing is a hybrid with more and more Orwellian tactics coming in as sort of a clean up effort against the remaining resistance.

If you let me choose between New Brave World & 1984, I'd rather to read 1984 as Orwell saw the future coming through this novel, which describes this dystopian world where Winston Smith is a real threat for the thought police and especially for BIG BROTHER. Furthermore, think of what's happening in Cuba and Venezuela whose regimes seem endless.
