It's finally time to put some spray foam back in the boat, but of course we have some small projects to do first, and some prep to do.
But we are also using a new product and bigger bottles. Is it going to work out this time? This is the last step on our steel boat rebuild before we start to put the interior back together!

I welded my own 13 meter steel sailboat, splashed year 2000. Then the boat was back on land in 2002 and spray foamed. 2-part poleurethane foam. Thicknes from 30- to 50 mm and 500 mm below water line. So, after more than 20 years in the sea, no cndensation, zero corrosion inside/outside. And the foam stics to the steel. And with a 4 kW diesel heater, I have 20 deg C on inside, whilst outside is 10- to 15 below freezing. Have to add that by education/work I have spesialized in steel constructions, welding and corrosion protection ( I have been working offshore on oil production platforms in North Sea, Norway). Quite a job you have taken on, I must say. Impressed.

Closed cell foam is the only way to go. My fiberglass ship is way more solid since I insulated it. It's vital on a steel ship to avoid rust from condensation.

It is very satisfying to see the thickness of the bottom plate at 0:17! 3:14 "... and all that nonsense..." LOL I think I did not mind my own business about that but I am not sure... The intent is good so I will repeat it: Are you guys thinking of installing conduit within all the foam to fish wires and pluming later-on? Maybe something to think about. Here I am finishing removing most of the water tanks and pluming, and that is what I am doing, conduit so I can fish new wiring and new PEX pluming.

Amazing job, but leave all the hatches open as long as posible. So that the gases can flow away. The mix of the poleol and the isocyanate gives very bad and dangerous gasses for human people. I hope that the spits on your lenses can be swiped away without damage. But anyway sprayfoam is the best solution 👍👍👍👍👍

It’s called DAP Touch ‘n Foam professional. Just got it off the shelf at Home Depot. It’s the big boxes in the saloon in the video

Sorry u cant spray-foam a steel boat. U need inspection access to the hull. You will have rust problems in the future

25 years of the only places on our boat without rust being under proper spray foam would prove that incorrect. And we are def not the only people what that experience. Nothing on a steel boat is a perfect solution.
