History books tell us that the Cold War is a period that extended from 1945 to 1991. A period in which the two major world superpowers of the East and the West, fearful of triggering a full-scale war, became entangled in an underground conflict characterized by espionage and counterespionage, shadowy deaths, propaganda, fear, and misinformation. Since the fall of the USSR, Russia has demanded more respect in global politics and has denounced the role of the US as a destabilizing agent dedicated to crushing them on the world stage. And, for its part, the US has been denouncing Russian intrusions in its national and international politics for years. Only now, another major player joins Russia and the US: China. A China estimated to already have a secret service double the size of the Soviet KGB, with ramifications worldwide and appearing increasingly willing to play the game of global influence and raise the stakes.
