Very Honest discussion about kids!! It is really how I feel about Pets... I enjoy them and they are great, but I don't want the responsibility because i like to travel :) One friend that I used to travel with had two dogs and she always had trouble finding someone to care for them for only a 10 day vacation... Also it was an added expense of several hundred dollars. Some people LOVE taking care of pets and lots of kids, but it's good to do what is right for YOU!! :)

I told my Asian boyfriend that I did not want to get married or have children the first day we met. He was 14 years older than me and was under a lot of pressure to marry since he was the oldest son and it was the tradition that his younger brothers could not marry until he did. I did not change my mind and after 3 years he consented to an arranged marriage and he was miserable with his wife for 5 years. The only thing good was that he had a daughter that he loved. After their divorce, we got back together again for another 11 years. After he died, I became close to his daughter and she recently became a mother. I am happy with my decision not to be a mom, but love being a grandmom!

Having been watching you and a Vagabond member since before you even started your own channel I'd like to say it has been obvious to me and anyone who cares to pay attention that you two are together because you want to be, which is the ONLY thing that matters. Carry on being as you are.

from a young soul to both of you - I'm so glad to see that you're walking your own path through life. Qiang - your parents sound very unusual (in a good way!) and understanding! I'm so similar-minded to you guys, it's crazy - I caught myself nodding along to your commentary. Live the life you want, not the life others expect you live. Be the person you are, not the person others want you to be. I wish I had learned these lessons 30 years ago as a late teenager - I would have done things quite differently. Keep living the dream! :)

Adoption is a great way to "have a kid". There are so many millions of orphans around the world who could use a stable upbringing .. and if you adopt, say a kid that is 5 or 8 y/o or something, as parents you skip all the cost that comes with having a toddler .. and they're old enough to travel with you. Anyone wanting to have a kid, but not many of the side difficulties and costs .. adoption is a great (and needed) way to go.

I've heard it said that the 1st marriage will be imagination over intellect. The 2nd will be hope over experience. So what is the 3rd, I asked myself? Perhaps a successful 3rd marriage comes with the realization that the gambler understands that the house always wins. You "play" while ever putting all your cash into the pot. When the kit is gone you walk from the table to play another day. As Rabbi Friedman says, you should love someone because they are important to you. I don't love you today, OK maybe tomorrow. But you are always important to me. So enjoy her, bond with her (kindness, dignity, generosity) while remembering always that innocence means you can't own it.

Almost same age gap as my wife and I, 47 and 72. The wife is built like Qiang too, and could have been a model looking at her pics. But, she has a son to take care off and was not free to travel. I used to travel all the time for work and grew to hate it. So, now she travels all over with her girlfriends, when her work allows the time, and I stay home with the boy. It works for us! BTW, my sister always kept a pawn shop wedding ring in her purse to slip on her finger when the need would arise, so I guess wedding rings can come in handy!

I worry about travel because I like my own desk, my thousands of books and a place where I can buy more books and have access to them all the time. I just can't carry my books everywhere I go. Of course there is kindle. But, kindle is way too heavy and not as much fun as a book you hold and feel connected to.

You Two are so Good Together. My thinking has been, if you have an extremely good relationship then why would you change it? Marriage does not provide any benefit these days over staying single even if in a committed relationship. I am married to a Filipina who is 37 and I am 62, so we have a 25 age gap as well. I have been married in the past and have a grown daughter from that marriage however the divorce was very brutal and the relationship with my daughter is not as good as I was hoping for. My Filipina has a daughter who is 15. The biological father left before the kid was born so this young girl never had a father until I came along and we have bonded and have a better relationship than I do with my biological daughter. I have found being with a younger woman and her young daughter makes me feel much younger than I am and gives me energy and purpose in life again. I love it and so Happy that Asian cultures do not frown on big age gaps. Love the Video Qiang - keep them coming !!!

Thank you for sharing your experience. I think there are many of us divorced dads trying to figure out how to best navigate this 3rd chapter of our life. My wife divorced me, but I think she has a very unrealistic understanding of how this will affect our two boys and the potential relationship with their father. Perhaps biased by her own experience of parents who stayed together due to tradition but where not happily married. When I had the talk with my children about the coming divorce, I was careful to let them know that it's not anything they did wrong and that there is nothing for them to do to try and fix it. That was an important point I learned from watching divorce TED talks. But I also let them know that I didn't want this divorce. It's tricky in the sense that you have to be careful not to sound like you are blaming mom (because it does take two to make a good marriage) but I wanted them to know that I didn't abandon them just to walk away and be free. The second important point from TED. So my youngest is too young to understand any of this, but I hopefully planted those seeds of him doing nothing wrong and dad didn't abandon them as if they are not important. My oldest understood more. Things were about to become very different. When I hugged him that day and said "I'll always be your dad" what I meant was that I'll always be your father. A dad is in the house and I knew that dad was now dead. I went through it as a child. My parents divorced, and so I know what is going to happen. I'm looking at my life ahead. Comfortable and content but an adventure awaits. My biological father became self centered and a sour old puss. Instead of going in, I'm looking at going out as you did. Live and give to others. Perhaps it can balance out the universe as I accept the death of 'dad' sin while living a life of 'father' for which they can see as an example. Life will have challenges. Some come to you and some you create yourself. How you react to these challenges will define your life.

It's good you are in a loving relationship, and I agree, you don't need a paper for that. However, I worry that the age difference will leave you by yourself someday without much income for retirement. You don't want to be scraping by at 70 years old, or even having to settle for a man you don't love just for stability. I think the paper would guarantee that Dan's assets will help maintain your life into old age as you've spent your youth with him. Dan would want you to be comfortable and a marriage would guaranty that governments or distant relatives can't come in a take asset away from you. It's important to have a worry-free retirement. My spouse and I were together for over a decade before we decided to make it legal for financial reasons. People keep that in mind.

@@globetrotting2628 Survivor benefits are where she can receive his full social security if she outlives him, but she needs to reside in the US for 5 years while married or after his death. My girlfriend is in the Philippines and is still married but left him 5 years ago. She has 2 children. Her husband has never given her a dime of child support. Thank you for sharing. When I was in my late 30’s I was being pressured to marry and have children. It was suggested to ask 12 of my closest friends who were married and who had children if they would do that again. I did ask. All, all said no they would not and these are conscious people. They said they wouldn’t give their kids back now that they are there but it was not what they thought it was. I learned from my wise mentor to implement into my relationships a yearly renewable contract that if for any reason the relationship wasn’t working that we would end it instead of being unconscious and letting time pass and being in a relationship that neither wanted. I have had three Asian partners long term like Qiang in my lifetime. They were the best. My last one passed away two years ago and I took very special care of her until she was gone. I have started my slow travel lifestyle in SE Asia after having been to China over 20 times previously in my life. Eventually I’ll find a landing ground and a great relationship to enjoy my latter em years. Thanks again 🙏🏼

I don't think so. Different than "traditional" pressures which have shaped much of their society structure, sure; a structure was built upon the family taking care of family. But it is quite Buddhist to accept that we are here to learn and improve ourselves. In the west, happiness is excitement and achievement, whereas in the east it is calmness and contentment. My Chinese wife divorced me because she was unhappy and felt the loss to "self" whereas I was more of the western mentality of her being an important person in my life and thus we should try to love each other. Not today, OK maybe tomorrow. A forever concept like our image of an eternal heaven.

I think marriage is a foundation for a young couple to build a stable family. Marriage has been on the decline over the years. Its a shame. I understand in your life stages its not an issue. But Dan there are tons of benefits beyond tax. It creates a stable environment for children to grow and become good members of the community. You see how this has degraded over the years in western society 50% divorce 😳 rates where the majority are initiated by women. Look at Asian families most look at marriage as a good thing. You see many American men moving to Asia to find a more traditional woman. Thanks so much for sharing this with us.

The Forever is only at our Final Destination either in “PARADISE” or in the “Hellfire” and that after the day of Judgement. Spiritually, if you both believe that there’s life after death… Please get married (in my suggestion only) and based on what I’ve learned religiously that sleeping together(having sexual relationship) before marriage or without marriage is a grave sin or fornication even if the man and woman are both single. Therefore in the day of judgement we will answer that sin to our One and Only GOD Almighty Who Created us and gave us life. Take care each other, Love one another and do not love another one. May God Almighty guide us all to the right path always. Ameen. May God bless you both. ❤❤

Im 64 living in the USA I said I would never marry again because I'm not having kids. I got engaged last week with my Asian girlfriend after over 9 years it provides some security for her when we get married next year despite the prenump agreement . If I live 10 years she will get half of my Social Security for life after I'm gone and she can live very well in Thailand off that. I think they are doing the right thing and any women that can travel like she did deserves it Haha!

I may be mistaken, but I think your future wife must live in the USA for 5 years to qualify for SS.
