I saw a guy talking about a Trump voter he had been talking to, a 65 year old woman, who voted for Trump because she “didn’t like that Biden overturned Roe V Wade”. I think at this point we need to accept that at least some portion of the country is just unbelievably stupid.

The thought that this was true for more than a handful of people hurts my soul...but 'stupid having shifted the balance' makes sense. Especially among the young male first time voters who apparently felt so 'de-manned overall' that they thought Trump was the only way to be 'manly again'. I wonder what they are hoping for from him. We'll have to see.

I don't like comparing Donald to the Austrian guy from the 1930s, since I think they're not really the same. However, I'm starting to realize that we probably would have elected the 1930s Austrian guy if he had been running in this election. At that point he was running on pretty similar issues and rhetoric... Maybe that's where your weird feeling is coming from

No. Gerrymandering and the electoral college are why the election is BS. Every four years the districts are redrawn to tip the scales in favor of the person that the wealthy people want in power, then the electoral college casts the vote for the person who got the most votes in your state, but this is after the districts had been drawn in favor of one person or the other. The problem is that the system is corrupt and rigged. If you voted blue, but you live in a red state, you wasted your vote. It didn't actually make a difference at all. We don't have a true democracy.

Feels like Im grieving the loss of a loved one. My emotions bounce from denial, anger, shock, and deep sadness. Im also so ashamed of the standing Amercia has in the world. I knew the average American has little to no education on politics or history. Working in the educational field, I saw the decline of what was being taught. I see what other countries are teaching. The decline of America has been going on for many years. I pray we've now peaked. God only knows where we go from here. But I dont have much hope. My father openly laughed at me for believing in "Law and Order", decency, and all that...apparently he just wanted to win to be 'slightly-racist and blame everyone else for it'. That's my still-surviving dad's take on it. He betrayed every Republican tenet that I was aware of when I was younger, and also betrayed everything except his "Deals with the Devil are okay if it screws over non-my-kind-of-Christians" religion. He was entirely a lie, and even admitted such, which I was both appreciative of and disgusted by. He wanted to win, he wants transgender/gay/awkward people to go back to the margins/shadows/being-dead or whatever, and he wants the never-had-it utopia of low-taxes-and-the-world-was-great that he sees in his mind, but no, he is firmly against taxing anyone, ESPECIALLY the rich because it's just us 'punishing them for being rich'. Funny how he forgot the top-earner tax percentage of his youthful heyday of the early-70's was actually 70%, versus the 37% today for the top earners. I can't imagine why our national debt is so huge...oh wait, what if we nationalized every billionaire's revenue in just the past TEN tax years so as to replicate that 70% tax rate...what would that do to the national debt? BIG dent? Maybe, especially if you charged back interest like they should have paid, and knocked the interest off of our national debt in turn..! $34 trillion national debt right now. $15 billion income a year for Walmart, $30 billion per year for Amazon, almost a TRILLION for Apple...of they and their rich CEO's paid their fair share...or even just 'more than they pay right now' which is often little to nothing!...we'd have a MUCH lower national debt. Trump's gonna cut taxes on himself and his buddies again though, I bet. Like he did LAST time, too. We ALL need to pay more attention. I'm starting to think that the R's have a central 'plotting committee' somewhere, and we need to find, cripple, and bring down whoever it is. Stop things like the 2010 Census misuse that let them calculate pre-gerrymandered districts for us to 'grow into' based on Census projections that seemed harmless at the time, and now we are 'enjoying' the result of their slow murdering of the education system...that's my suspicion. I wish I didn't have a "Mystical They" hiding somewhere in my hypothesis, but I'm starting to think there IS one. Like the guy who LITERALLY was the '2010 Census' "Hey, this would be a good idea" guy, Chris Jankowski. He made "Project REDMAP" (I think was the name) become a project, and the R's set to it. There's a book about it, "Ratf**ked: The True Story Behind the Secret Plan to Steal America's Democracy" by David Daley. Also look up the Republican "Two Santas" strategy. It's been there all along...now it's just all coming together.

All this talk about the pandemic is bullshit. I am in the UK and my son lives in Orlando. I am just back from a month in America. He lives on an expensive estate with houses between $650 - $2m. It is rabidly republican. When I speak to his neighbours they all gave me 3 reasons they voted for Trump. 1. They don't like Trump, but they like his policies. 2. Inflation - which is a lie - they quote at me $10 for a dozen eggs, when clearly even in Publix, eggs cost $3.28. 3. The price of gas $7 a gallon. Again a lie, as we were paying $3.19 a gallon. They know this, but quote the lies like religious responses. If these reasons are not true and they know it, why did they vote for Trump ? Simply 2 reasons, they won't reveal or admit to, as it means they are horrible people. 1. Kamala was a woman. 2. She is of mixed race. Republicans were willing to vote for a convicted criminal, a sex offender, a liar, a fraudster, 6 X bankrupt. That tells you who they really are. He's not a criminal. Read what the actual cases are about. They are all complete nonsense. It's not even a grey area; they are objectively complete nonsense. Look at what the appeals court has said about the real estate case. They are going to throw it out. Laticia James RAN on destroying Trump, and concocted a "crime" to do the job afterwards (they really did "concoct" it: it uses a novel legal theory that has never been prosecuted. It is used to bypass both the state of limitations, and to upgrade misdemeanors to felonies.) It's easy to just hear "convinced" and think it's legit, but you really need to actually look at the facts of the cases. They really, truly are a political attack. You will see: they will all be thrown out. You make think it's unfair when they are, but the truth is, it's horrifically unfair that he was prosecuted under these circumstances in the first place. He was doing a perfectly reasonable business transaction, and the global banks on the other side of the transaction AGREED and testified in his favor. That's a pretty good first sign something is wrong...but there are many more. If you don't have time to read, just listen to the recording of the appeals trial. The judges are absolutely tearing the case apart, and basically asking how this could've possibly got a conviction in the first place (the answer: they found a single judge that viciously hates Trump. They managed to get that same judge for ALL of the cases Trump is involved in. Crazy, because judges are supposed to be randomly selected...) I get the whole "other people are acting under a primitive response" thing...but are you sure you aren't just doing a slightly higher-level version of that? Clearly you don't know the contents of the cases, so why is it appropriate to believe he's done something wrong? You don't even know what he supposedly did. Are you really intellectually superior, given that?

I was born in 1970. My earliest memories were of my childhood home in Rhode Island: helping my parents in the garden or with groceries, playing in the snow during the winter. I didn't have much concept of history or politics or war. There was maybe one black kid in my kindergarten class, but I didn't have much concept of race. I didn't recognize it as an issue, and had no idea about the history of slavery, Jim Crow, or civil rights. In the early eighties I lived in Hawaii. My teacher told us about the hostages in Iran, and when Ronald Reagan was shot. One of the teachers read us George Orwell's "Animal Farm," and we learned about WWII and the Holocaust -- enough to know that in times of war people do terrible things to each other, and even to citizens of their own country if those people become identified as an outgroup. But that was history. The hyper-nationalism and fascism of the early 20th century was decades before I was born and we had learned those lessons and moved beyond that. We had democracy. And the majority of the people would never vote for a president who plainly and explicitly said all the kinds of things that, decades later, president-elect Trump would say during his campaign. I mean, we're not *that* stupid. We had ABC, NBC, and CBS. We had Walter Cronkite. It's not like people would believe some whacked out conspiracy theory that identified liberals or immigrants or Muslims or Asian Americans or any other particular group of Americans as a dangerous outgroup. Only fringe conspiracy nuts or the survivalists and doomsday preppers I began to hear about during the eighties might believe BS like that. And so I formed my sense of what was normal, my worldview. And by the time I entered college at the end of the eighties, it was fairly well established, and even 9/11 didn't really shake it with respect to my sense of how Americans saw each other. Then came the election of Donald Trump, then came January 6th, then came the defeat of the sane and reasonable Harris-Walz ticket to the Trump-Vance ticket, which seems like a possible path to fascism or theocracy, and quite plausibly an end to the US-led world order that we've had since the end of WWII. So where the heck are we now?? What country is this?? What happened to America??

Dems were actively censoring on social media through the WH, FBI field offices, and social media company departments. Dems actively supported openly illegal discrimination through DEI. Please understand those of us on the other side legitimately were chilled by the authoritarian actions your side openly pushed. You want to criminalize those on the other side. It's that simple.

I was the grandson of two Pentecostal ministers, was educated in parochial schools until my middle school years, and was pretty devout for most of my adult life (I am currently 61 yrs old). Christianity was familiar territory for me until the very late 1990s to early 2000s, when this push to gain political hegemony by Evangelical PACs and messaging in ministry urging believers to foment “culture war” began to alarm me for the clear deviation from Gospel teachings and Christian doctrine, and for the arch-conservative voices drowning out voices from mainstream denominations calling for prayerful and considerate, calm discussions from a Christian perspective. One by one, the voices of reason fell silent and the drum beats became more distant and faint. Today I’m sorry to say that I don’t see many familiar faces in church, nor does the testimony offered ring in my ear as Christian witness these days. In fact, not Christian at all. What I see most clearly are the wolves in sheep’s clothing and the masses of the deceived that Jesus warned us about.

Energy costs have their fingers all over the economy. Dropping energy prices by 50+% will have a drastic effect on almost all consumer goods. Threatening tariffs is a negotiation tool as well and will be used accordingly. He will undoubtedly slap some tariffs but it’s not going to be 20% universal. Also ending these wars will affect massive portions of the world economy. Prices will naturally drop. The Russian war was the major reason for energy prices getting so high in the first place. Cutting taxes and regulations on corporations will also have an effect on prices. Say what you want about “trickle down economics” but wages increased drastically from 2016-2020. Walmart went from starting people at 7.65 to over $16 in my hometown and we saw wages go up across the board in that manner. Trump will certainly make some mistake but this is absolutely a good thing for our economy. We need to heal economically and then we can heal socially in 2028. Good luck to everyone genuinely. This result is not the gloom and doom you think it is.

@@innotech but beyond that america is the safest, most innovative and powerful country on earth. No one single president can change that overnight. Everyone is acting like the president has this magical ability to stop all that when most economic and military factors are outside of the president’s control. Most Americans are more spoiled than they are destitute

If you could take away one thing from this election I would pick this: Negative messages are more popular than positive messages. People just respond better and enjoy being angry and blaming someone. Then they do trying to be happy or feeling a sense of unity. They would much rather be at odds with anyone. Because human beings are deeply tribal. Most people having us and them mentality. And trump mastered connecting with that sentiment. He really does bring out the worst in us. And it works. It works for many people

Yes. This. Her campaign was at its strongest when it embraced the "weird" line of attack and was alluding to the meme about JD Vance having sex with a couch. People are angry. And that anger needs to be directed at the billionaires and their goons.
