And when we learn that someone has been harming children, unless the parents are simply neglectful and requires intervention, the FOCUS needs to be on the predator. This knee jerk reaction to blame the parents is simply the black community trying to cover for predators.

In the black community, many years ago families believed in the words sweep the situation under the rugs and they passed that down like a generation Baton with a lot of ancestral fear so many just did what they said to do even if you knew they were wrong for telling you to be quiet 🤫 fast foward to the days we are living in now, social media have become most peoples safe place for information and knowledge Its a new day, and people are trying to stand up for their self and help others to stand up, speak up, and tell your truth Its not easy to stand up to a predator that you may know or not know. Diddy have probably delt with a predator as a child for this to be such a high profile situation in his life 30+ years of terrible negative energy he have exemplified before the world. Look how he fled and left his boys. That's a big example of he dont care about anyone Ushers' mother allowed her child to go away for a year , without parental guidance, you heard Usher say he wouldn't send his children so thats enough said Karen as always Thank you for the open dialog ❤

I think there is a difference between boarding school and a stay with a professional mentor. Boarding schools have educational professionals who are mandated reporters charged with looking out for the students. Who is the mandated reporter or child advocate present when a child is spending all this time with accomplished professionals for mentorship. So saying that the parents are the first line of defense for the child is not excusing the predator but is exploring all the levels of protection that break down that make it so that these things can happen. Parents don't send your children to be in circumstances where there are no mandated reporters or child advocates present at all times.

I think a lot of times we forget that as a community (black folks) we are not that far removed from the systems that "kept us in our place" a lot of people still take advantage of that mindset. Women who were children from that era are still stuck in that mindset. I have to remind my mother all the time that it is ok for her to say no to anything she does not want to do, she is 92 and still feels like it is being rude or impolite, or even "ungodly" to say no to people regardless of what they are asking for. But most of us have that creepy Uncle or family friend that we won't leave our children in the room with. I remember a scene in a Tyler Perry movie where they were at a pic-nic and the old men wanted the girl in the shorts to "go deeper" into the bottom of the barrel to get them a cold drink. I wonder how many people when they saw that scene cringed at it, or did they just laugh it off as a funny scene in a movie with a bunch of creepy old men? We been dealing with this for a long time. It's gonna take a while to be redeemed from that mentality.

My opinion: Karen is not denying that there are any parents who literally sell/sacrifice their children. She’s trying to not allow folks to do what commonly happens in these situations, which is coddle, protect, and infantilize Black men. Folks seem to never be able to say, “pedophilia is wrong, predatory behavior is wrong, harming children is wrong.” It’s always, but what about this, what about that, what about the parents?!

Food for thought on holding parent accountable. I don't think people know how to verablize it, but parents should cover their kids, educate or condition them to know better. Sexual promiscuity is rampart in this country and around the world, consenual and nonconsenual. Thus, how do we combat it? Issues: 1. Underage sex. 2. Statutory rape. 3. Victimization (several areas that can be discussed).

My comments are based on my personal experience. Your panel consists of very educated women that I respect. I was speaking in code somewhat. I lost my wife kids ,home almost my on reputation, because I some up and was placed under an order of protection my a closed family member to protect themselves. It was women on one side doing things and a man on the other side. To save my kids I had to backoff. I'm forever changed by this tragedy in my life 24 yrs later. But no one believed me.

I appreciate the discussion and as I see how widespread this Diddy case is it makes so much sense that the Me Too Movement - albeit started by a Black woman but co-opted got so much push back. I think we need a reckoning. I think this discussion should take place in every sector of society. I also think we need to create a truth and reconciliation type space for people to heal and be transparent and have community spaces for healing for the victim and what about the perpertrator. Our systems do not rehabilitate so i think that has to be a community process, but looking at all we're facing, I'm not sure it will be embraced, nor do i think there is enough energy to go to it as opposed to all the other ways Black folks are being targeted. I will say, as a young person growing up who hip hop was supposedly an expression of my life, I think critical thinking skills are crucial and who are people pushing back against a corporate-backed "community leader" vs organic, community-led leaders. But it's a whole network of people that supported and promoted lifestyle, food, drink, on and on and on.

Hi Karen, great discussion this go round as usual. At the 24:00 mark where the caller discusses whether or not a parent should really consider sending their child across the country to a diddy camp I get his point. You also were to quick to not hear the brother out initially. As a parent living in these conditions and after having raised 2 daughters, parents have to question and re question anything related to our kids nowadays. Even when I give consent I’m always one step in the mix, calls, emails m, WhatsApp groups etc etc I don’t trust anyone w my kids, expect the unexpected and prepare to pivot 24/7. It also gives me a better understanding of why my parents didn’t allow me to attend sleepovers. How many times in this call have we mentioned the perverted uncle, cousin babysitter professor etc etc. we have to keep our eyes OPEN and show the kids how to do the same. 👍🏼👍🏼
