My sentiments exactly. If it does everything we think it does based on rumours, then $400. If it happens to have an OLED screen right away and maybe have a bit more than 256gb storage and some other killer feature; then $450. Depending if it's actually a good upgrade from the standard Switch, I think it might be better to release it at 400 because if they can't market it that well or really show people why they should upgrade from the Switch 1 right away, they're gonna end up having to reduce the price after a while, and that'll look bad.

The price isn't what killed the WiiU. The lack of marketing (most people had no idea what it was), the fact that it was effectively a side grade of the Wii with that obnoxious controller tablet monstrosity and that there were no exclusive games that compelled buying it over a Wii. That stated, $400+ will absolutely kill the Switch2 unless it is an absolutely giant upgrade over the switch, which I just don't see happening. You cannot compare it against something like the steamdeck or anything else really.

I have a hard time believing Nintendo wants to go above $399 for this system. It’s not impossible that $449 could end up being the price point, but I feel like given that we know they’re abandoning the OLED screen in favor of an LCD one, it stands to reason that they would want to avoid putting a 4 at the front of the price tag as much as possible.

Honestly they should price it at $350-$400 and take a loss on the hardware. If you look at it the cost of the switch one with the surrounding context, it was priced so that they made profit on the hardware. The switch 2 however is going to have to convince that 100 million user base that to switch over. I think if Nintendo releases a $450 system, They would be flying a little too close to the sun there. What 12-year-old kid would be able to save up almost $500 for a video game console that mostly plays games on a significantly cheaper console?

I bet they will price it $399,99 for a couple of reasons: 1. I think what happens is, they casually (Twitter post) announce a price cut for the OLED and discontinue the lite and red box switch and sell through remaining inventory. Or...Nintendo comes out strong and ends their last generations by launching a regular switch 2 and switch 2 lite on day 1. Which would give them a lot more incentive to just end production of switch 1 sku's Pricing-wise though, I'm expecting $500 ($400 if they launch a lite), but would be pleasantly surprised if it's $400 ($300 for lite)
@NetflixForeign
@NetflixForeign 14 күн бұрын
If it is $500 I would be shocked as they are price matching the PS5. Even with the value proposition as a handheld I would NOT want to make that argument, the comparisons of it to PS5 for graphics would plague it then. Nintendo will avoid this. Even if this is largely the same as the Switch 1 in the design I don't see a $500 pricepoint as a great sell when it has to be compared to the PS5 then. I think if Nintendo prices it at $500 it will end up like what happened with the 3DS, just less severe. Within' a year they will cut the price by $50 or even $70.
@OhluhKayTall
@OhluhKayTall 14 күн бұрын
@NetflixForeign there is no scenario where they don't price match the PS5 since Sony has already had a sku at $400 (PS5 digital) for years now and is inevitably going to be compared to the competition anyway. I'm betting on it costing more than anyone is anticipating rather than it being the budget-friendly option this time around.
@NetflixForeign
@NetflixForeign 14 күн бұрын
@@OhluhKayTall I consider this a false argument since for all purposes that was an incomplete system in that you didn't have a physical option at that pricepoint. I believe the Switch 2 will have a physical option across the board so $500 is the PS5 pricepoint it needs to be compared to. If Nintendo sells it at $500 it will end up like the 3DS situation, just less severe. They will price drop it within' a year by $50 or even $70. Yes I said it will be less severe but it will be severe enough they will want to price drop it. In the meantime many people will sit on their Switch's and wait for the price drop. There are plenty of good games on it so they can wait. I think this system will last a good 10 years, maybe more so charging $400 in the long run won't buy them considering all the software they will get. The system has enough legs that whatever compromises made to match up with PS5 and 6 games will be enough, especially considering the swingback we are about to get with AAA. I predict we will see a lot more AA games which will fit the Switch 2 quite nicely. I predict a number of $60 and $50 games launching regularly because they are budgeted accordingly.

With the Lite at $199, Red Box at $299, OLED at $349, you have the option for a $100 mark up for the new system from your previous offering. @@MK73DS based on the evidence so far I would say it’s 90-95% likely it is an 8nm node. Additionally it being an 8nm node does not mean that Nintendo won’t charge 400+$ as Nintendo likes to make profit on their hardware, which would line up with using a 5 year old chip and still pricing according to market trends. However this does not mean that the Switch 2 won’t have great games. It just means keep the expectations in check and expect a better and more powerful Switch instead of comparing it to a Steam deck, ROG Ally, Series S or PS4 Pro. It can still be great despite being less powerful than those other machines :)

Remember when the 3DS launched at $250 and then Nintendo slashed the price by 47% to $170 six months after release? Switch 2 cannot be priced higher than $400 at launch. Switch 2 would sell best at $350 LCD and $400 OLED. Nintendo has lots of ways to make a premium above the base model, I give it 99% chance the base model Switch 2 is $350, and heck that 1% extra chance can say we have a sliver of hope of Nintendo subsidizing hardware and selling Switch 2 at $300 even.

It's a really tough one for Nintendo, too expensive and they lose their core markets of pre teens getting their first console which probably equates to a guaranteed 12m sales a year. But if its not a big step up in performance on the original then existing owners won't upgrade. Personally I can't see many existing owners upgrading anyway maybe older gamers with a soft spot for Nintendo or pokemon fans once the first switch 2 release comes out but definitely not the casual gamers who just bought for animal crossing or ring fit etc. Can't really see want they can do with mario kart 9 to get casuals to buy a whole new system again?

if you look at the screen and the storage €399 makes the most sense, because it's not an OLED screen and 256 GB is not enough for a Xbox series S (if the specs are comparable) they will sell you the storage (512GB micro SD Express) for about €90 and then the console will be €489 for a complete experience. I expect it'll be actually less than the OLED. Simply because affordability is one of the biggest reasons they are selling so many, and they are producing a ridiculous number of units straight out of the gate. US tariffs might take it to $350, maximum. In the UK I think £320 maximum but quite possibly only £300. Just look at the Wii, DS and OG sales. They'll just discount and sell through the old stock, keeping only the Lite until a new one arrives, maybe revise the OG.

I personally know probably close to a dozen people who want a Switch but don't have one due to it being out of their price range. These people are in their early-late 20s. A $450 Switch 2 will be a big ask from Nintendo, and I can see it doing more harm than good. Personally, I'm buying it regardless. But, my point is I see $450 being too much for a lot of Nintendo's audience AND especially their potential audience. If we do see a $450 Switch 2, then that means Nintendo really backed themselves into a corner with their current Switch lineup and pricing and had little other choice. As for its announcement and release date, I'm with you Jon, in that I believe we'll get a trailer the last week of this month, then a press release/tweet announcing a direct a week to two weeks maximum later which will go into further detail about its features, pricing, and availability. The direct could be in March, but I think the first week or two of Feb is more likely. I also expect it to be $400, not $450; leaks show Nintendo is saving cost everywhere it can with its vendors.

Id argue that dock and detachable controllers cost a significant amount, just by builtin controllers in the same board and dicking the dock, they were able to sell for 2/3 of the price. So I wonder if they can sell the regular switch 2 for 400$, they could also sell a lite for 300$. So, I think the ideal would be option for everyone: - 300$ Switch 2 lite: 128gb, LCD screen, no dock, built in controllers. - 400$ Switch 2: 256 gb, LCD screen, dock, joy-con, grip. - 500$ Switch 2 Oled: 512 gb, oled screen, dock, joy-con, chargeable grip. Maybe even the 500$ could provide a larger cut than the 400$ SKU. And many would get this version instead (as we see now more people getting the 350$ oled switch 1 than the regular 300$ for quite a long time now), but the 400$ must be an option, specially for families.

My biggest wish for the Switch 2 is current gen upgrades for Nintendo’s exclusives like Tears, Xenoblade, Bayonetta 3, Scarlet/Violet, and others. My other wish that I don’t feel is as likely but still possible would be the addition of a GameCube emulator added to NSO

It will be between $450 and $500, and i will buy it on the first day.

$400 is its happy place. Differentiates itself from the both switch 1 models, but not too close to full fledged home consoles

I understand that Nintendo has to go for the casual market the parents with kids and they need to target a price that’s going to be appealing for them but honestly looking around the landscape seeing a steam deck for $650 the ROG ally for seven to $800and $500 for Microsoft and Sony’s main consoles at minimum I really don’t see a problem with the switch being even as much as $500 it’s still going to look attractive at that price

I'll personally get it at most of the rumored price points. Hard to say what it will be, with inflation and the Japanese Yen exchange rate being what they are. It's also one of those things that rumors often don't seem to get accurate. So it's probably one of the least interesting things about the system, at least for me.

I'm thinking $500. Nvidia gets $100 for their GPU, and Nintendo gets the $400

Looking at previous patterns Nintendo like to do directs in February and September, specifically on Wednesdays. My guess is a direct revealing switch 2 on the 12th or 19th of February.

Well they have an investors meeting at the beginning of February. It would be insane for them to go into the meeting still having not revealed the Switch 2.

My heart says $400 but my gut says $450-500, inflation is kicking our asses right now and Nintendo is notoriously greedy.
