I remember I had a dream a few years ago that there was a box of abandoned puppies and I was so concerned about them. Then this man said "Dont mind the puppies. What about your teeth?" It was around that time that I started developing receding gums. My front tooth fell out a few years later. My narcissisic ex had abandonment issues so I think the puppies in the dream were symbolic of him and me bending over backwards to "fix" him. After the man pointed out my teeth problems the box of puppies knocked over and the puppies walked off. They were just fine without my help. My ex is just fine without me and probably doing better without my "help". Of all the dreams I have ever had this particular one made perfect sense to me. It took me years to actually act on the wisdom of this dream though. But I think the symbolism is pretty clear. I had another dream that his dick turned into a snake with fangs lol.

Emotional deprivation resonates with me, abandonment issues also, i think enmeshment is connected to emotional deprivation at least in my case it was. A child that had to ignore their needs to be the "good girl/boy". This creates also the effect to accepting breadcrumbing and giving too much of oneself. In my case I didn't reject warmer partners. There were other characteristics for other relationships to not work, e.g. differences about life goals or ways to spend free time. Yes, one gives a lot which sometimes is taken for granted. But acknowledging one's responsibility in this or simply acknowledging the motives for our own behaviour contributes to our freedom to keep on doing and doing it for the right reasons.

I had to listen to this 3 times in a row.😅 I'm a life-long rescuer who regularly ignores her own needs, because they never really mattered to anyone, so I'm used to them going unmet. In the past, even now to an extent tbh, I didn't want certain friends who "needed" me to ever feel 'abandoned' or feel that they didn't matter because I know how horrible that feels, and I care about them, But also, they're adults, not my children, and I'm not responsible for them.🤦‍♀️ Reciprocity from them was too much to ask. I'm too much. Too much of a nurturer for my own good. I had to set some limits, and even ended a couple of toxic friendships recently. This is good, because they were bad for my mental health. I'm still at the point of burn out from compassion fatigue, and it's affecting my health in bad ways. Gradually, I've attempted to reparent myself and focus at least a little more on my own needs, which honestly feels selfish, even though I know it shouldn't. Stupid childhood programming. I'm so glad I came across this video tonight. Thank you so much for making such helpful videos!🙏

Hi Dr Ruth Ann, I appreciate your perspective. Funny..I worked with a young woman around 2001 named Ruth Ann Harpur, not sure if she spelled her last name the same. She was 'feisty' too, lol! It was in the US, in Washington state at a State Farm agency, for a new agent. Thanks for your content, I learn a lot from you and every channel I watch, even Sam Vaknin 🤔. God speed, Sherri
