When it comes to dog training, most of us want the best for our pets, but the truth is, mistakes can happen, and they can hinder our progress and even damage our relationship with our dogs. That's why it's crucial to avoid common mistakes that can set us back.
Dog training can be a daunting task, especially for first-time owners. It requires patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement. But despite our best efforts, we can still make mistakes that can lead to frustration, anxiety, and even behavioral problems in our dogs. One of the biggest challenges dog owners face is establishing clear communication with their pets. Dogs don't speak human language, and we don't speak theirs, which can lead to misunderstandings and misbehaviors.
Another common challenge is dealing with distractions. Whether it's other animals, people, or even just interesting smells, distractions can be a major obstacle to effective training. And let's not forget about consistency - it's essential to set a routine and stick to it, but it can be tough, especially when life gets in the way.
Then there's the issue of unrealistic expectations. We've all seen those amazing dog training videos online, but the truth is, training a dog takes time, effort, and practice. It's not a quick fix, and it's not a one-size-fits-all solution. Every dog is different, and what works for one dog may not work for another.
Training a dog also requires a deep understanding of canine behavior and psychology. Dogs are pack animals, and they thrive on hierarchy and structure. They need clear boundaries, positive reinforcement, and gentle correction. When we don't understand these fundamental principles, we can make mistakes that can have long-lasting consequences.

I own a cane corso and have done for 2 months. She is 15 months old and I want to know how I can distract her and put her attention back on me rather than being a dog and wanting to go after other dogs. The time before my ownership she had no socialising out doors so has no idea what outside noises are and I mean has no idea she is nervous and anxious and anchors down and just wants to come home to her safe space.

It's great that you're taking the time to work on your cane corso's training! Using treats or toys to redirect her focus can really help. Gradually exposing her to new sounds and environments can also ease her anxiety over time. Patience is key! Good luck !
