It depends on the something, and your definition of "good," versus say, "great." But, with all things being equal, I'm usually better than I allow myself to 'think.' one should be humble as the dust.
@jessstuart74956 ай бұрын
How do you define "good" ? Relative to other people's performance? (Better than 75th percentile), Value / Cost ? , All requirements met?

An assumption is that dunning Kruger effect implies greater confidence in one's ability. But does it? Or do people with lower ability rank their ability higher but with lower confidence/certainty? Seems plausible that it could be a case of regression to the mean (people on average tend to rank themselves higher when they are simply bellow average and lower when they are above average). But even if it is a case of effect of regression to the mean, and regardless of their level level confidence in their assessment, people still overestimate their ability when it is bellow average. So despite the reason being more mathematical than anything else, doesn't the effect still hold?

Wrong, it depends on the task given to the participants. The dunning kruger effect is real but he failed to demonstrate it or to demonstrate that it doesnt apply to the cases in which it does.

Do you have anything to base your statement on? There is plenty of evidence now that statistical artefacts play a sizeable role in the original DKE analysis. However, there may well be evidence that weaker performers show poorer insight, but that doesn't have to be in the form of being overconfident, it seems.

Everything makes sense except the height weight example. If I as a 4'10 person have to eat under 1200 calories and work out to stay petite people better think I'm smol. (Even if 117 is overweight 4 my height) If a tall person can be thin eating 2000 calories but ppl still tell them they should be 120 lbs theyre gonna feel big. Theyre not guessing their size wrong, theyre reflecting the social bias.
@ihateracin2 жыл бұрын
Uh, well, caloric intake is dependent on your physical needs. If you exercise every day, you could eat MORE than. 1200 and notice a gain in muscle density. If you live a stagnant lifestyle, 2000 calories for a tall person will result in weight gain. What is your point here and how does it relate to social norms?

@remarknibor2 жыл бұрын
It's basically a statistical artefact. So in the sense that you see the classic graph and read that "poor people are overconfident and the best people are underconfident", yes, that's not what happens.

the regression to the mean thing is interesting. But a task like recognising faces, which the subject have been doing all their lives, is probably a poor task to test against the Dunning Kruger thing.

- *Benazir Bhutto* - 🇵🇰 On December 27, 2007, Bhutto was leaving a political rally in the city of Rawalpindi. She was traveling in a bulletproof vehicle but used the sunroof to stand half out of the car and wave at the crowd. That’s when a young Taliban terrorist shot her three times from less than 10 feet away, followed by detonating an explosive vest loaded with ball bearings. Twenty-two people died in the attack, including Bhutto. Al-Qaeda took responsibility, gloating in terminating “the most precious American asset.” Riots followed the assassination, leading to another 50 deaths.
