This was a really good presentation! I wasn't using a rotary at work today, but I was listening while using the random orbital. You guys had me laughing too! Glad you guys are healthy and happy. Keep on with the videos. They're full of information, humor, and fun.

I just bought a rotary last week. Holy cow what a difference! It's so much less work. Beautiful finish...takes some getting used to in how to not let it get away from you but once you got it, so much easier.

Back in the early 80's I used the rotary buffers w/the old wool bonnet and pads. Thats pretty much all they had back then as buffing or detailing business were all pretty new. Left my signature on a few cars and it sucked on black cars. Leaving swirl marks. Used this hand polish called Ebony back then to help get rid of swirl marks. It worked pretty good. Most cars back then were enamel and it was real easy to buff w/the wool pads. Easy one-step! Put myself thru college w/my recon business 83-85.

Agree, back then we don't have all the great tool, pad and products choices that are available today. Sometimes I see people complain there are too many choices and it makes it confusing to decide what to buy. I always say to these people given the choice between too few choices and too many choices - I would opt for too many. :) -Mike Phillips

Wellllll. After watching probably 30 hours maybe 40 of different videos on detailing the outside of my car, I have washed it, clay barred it, compounded it, and done the touch up paint with the correct paint color from autozone. After touching up the probably 500 to 1000 chips in the paint since moving to Virginia I find something that auto geek, sweet project car and others never told me. The paint on my car has faded and will not match the paint that's in the pen. Something I think that any man that does detailing should know and should share.

What do you use to polish over a large decal or strips ? Whats the best way to remove a decal - such as on a 97 camaro ss? Would steam work ?

Stupid question probably... Can an orbital be used though the whole process to avoid the holographic pattern? I've always hand waxed and buffed my vehicles, but am getting too old to continue by hand.

My main tool I use 99% of the time is a forced rotation DA, the Mille, I own a rotary, am not proficient in it, but given the Mille I just don’t really see why I should use the rotary. Any insights into that?
@autogeek
@autogeek 3 жыл бұрын
It's called, "Use what works for you" Nothing wrong with using a forced rotation and FORCED OSCILLATION RUPES Mille. If I wasn't an 8mm guy I would use the RUPES Mille but I prefer 8mm over 5mm gear-driven orbital action. -Mike Phillips

Currently I use a fairly wide variety of different products when I detail cars or teach car detailing classes. One thing for sure though - I only use products that use GREAT abrasive technology. If you have not read my article on abrasive technology, here's the link. www.autogeekonline.net/forum/how-to-articles-by-mike-phillips/120326-abrasive-technology-most-important-factor-when-comes-polishing-paint.html -Mike

That's for a high speed rotary not like the lower speed rotary a like the Rules LH19E or other newer rotary tools. In fact the rules you can start way below 1000And it tops out at 1900 RPM I believe.

Thank you for so great information. I just started w rotary but I think I made a mistake buying the Milwaukee cordless w 6.0 batt, it’s so heavy. Batt doesn’t lady and charge time so long. What would you recommend us. I m thinking abt getting the rupes or the cordless flex. I already have the pxe80 I love it. Thanks

Can anyone comment on if the "micro-tool" style polishers could be replaced by a die-grinder or 'Dremel' , provided you had the pad/compound combination dialed-in properly. I ask because have an M12 cordless die grinder, with 3 speeds. Or would I just be better off using a drill w/ attachments? Thanks.
