The classic Rialto movie theater is about to be shut down despite the tireless efforts of 16 year old Pete Matt. Strange Dr. Vink curiously appears and guarantees the success of the theater with an old black and white horror movie he made decades ago. People become enthralled with this old movie--just as he predicted. Pete decides to study the movie closely to figure out what is so magnetic about it. This is a dangerous exercise because Pete soon discovers that the thin screen dividing reality from fantasy can be more porous than anyone anticipates.
