Since the point "play the game" is so broad and obvious, I'll add the suggestion "play the game supervised". When testing/training talk with your peers about your decision making and thought process. You might encounter interactions or lines you didn't realize are possible.

despite what some people think, I actually do like playing stuff not my style on occasion. I however, will never play draft. It would take a very hand selected group of friends (people who wont be dicks or judgemental) to get me to play draft.

Do you mean to say that you've experienced other players being dicks/judgemental and that has put you off of the idea of drafting? Of course the environment/culture differs from store to store, but any store with a competent/certified Judge (or even just a Rules Advisor, which is kind of like a Level 0 judge and which many store-owners/TOs are certified as) should guarantee a minimum standard of decency and non-dickness. WOTC is very firm about no tolerance for such things, because they want store environments to be as accessible and inviting as possible. If you have any doubts about this, please take a moment to look at the short "Judging at Regular" document that all store-owners are expected to enforce at sanctioned Magic events, which includes almost all FNM events.

@@JivanPal thats part of it, but also it's just not really something I enjoy. I like taking a silly idea and seeing how well I can make that idea with the history of magic. RNG is bad enough without a second level of it. XD

@@nosrin1988 The secret to getting around booster pack RNG is getting good at draft 😉 Fair enough, though, not every format is for everyone!

@@JivanPal if you draw ass cards you still only have ass cards. it also doesnt help that I did jumpstart with a friend and lost to him 0-11....

@@nosrin1988 The thing with draft is that everybody in the same pod has access to the same card pool as you. If there's a bonkers-good or bonkers-bad pack at the table, every player still gets to look at it twice and is forced to pick two cards from it. By contrast, the variance in Sealed deck (like at a prerelease) is actually higher than that of Draft.
