Hello from Mt. Shasta Ca. I applied for and received my permanent residency through the Yuma consulate in February. Permanent residency required either $293k savings or $7500 per month. I finalized my residency in Puerto Vallarta in March (the day after I arrived). I would highly recommend using a facilitator when you finalize in Mexico. I would not have wanted to figure it out on my own, especially since I don't speak Spanish. The small cost of the facilitator is well worth it. After receiving my Permanent Residency card (one day after arriving) I purchased a condo there. I would not have qualified if I had purchased the condo first. Keep that in mind if you are using your savings to qualify and intend to buy a home there

@@kingmelanin7468 $7.5k is the monthly income requirement ( or $230k in savings) to 'qualify' for 'permenant' residency at the Yuma consulate. Not a fee to be paid! The facilitator only is involved at the emigration office in Mexico. Solvency requirements are less for 'temporary' residency. My facilitator 'fee' was about $250 IIRC

@@bobnankervis9722 Ah, I called a few consulates and the temporary residency requires $3200, +/- $500. I think that's pretty high for a country with a $2.5/hr minimum wage. I've been debating Portugal or Brazil. It costs about half with better infrastructure. Good luck!

Great video, as usual! Regarding the suggestion about applying for residency long before one might need it, I have a question that I have not seen addressed anywhere. Hopefully, you can help! 🤞 Here’s the question: Once the six-month window for the menaje de casa expires, how does one move one’s furniture and other personal items to Mexico? Can the menaje de casa window be extended? Alternatively, is it possible to hire movers to move one’s things to Mexico and pay custom duties on one’s used furniture, etc.? Any insight and resources you might provide would be deeply appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Hello Marianna, Thank you for the video; it was very informative. And your Article is the most details out there. However, I still have two questions. Does the consulate require proof of remote income, or is there a consulate that does not ask for it? I meet the monthly income and savings requirements for Temporary Residency, but I am unable to provide proof of remote work, and I am only 22 years old. It seems unusual for someone my age to move to Mexico without a remote job or to retire. But I am concerned that my salary may not keep up with Mexico's minimum wage and the exchange rate of the peso. Therefore, I want to apply for Temporary Residency as a backup plan in advance. Which, I cannot tell the officer that I want a backup plan, or maybe let me rephrase, I might work remotely in the future or planning for the retirement in advance. So, back to my question, does the consulate require proof of remote income, or is there a consulate that does not ask for it? Especially the 4 city that you mention in your article: McAllen, New Orleans, Raleigh, San Francisco, that I hope they would still be the four that require the least for Finical Requirements, which hopefully I can still fulfill them next year. Thank you so much

Most consulates will only grant a permanent residency visa if you are over 60 and receiving social security and are actually retired. Most people don't qualify for permanent residency with social security alone. So if you have enough savings you can certainly try. The worst that can happen is you receive temporary residency. Which has the same benefits as a permanent residency except you have to renew it. After 4 years you can apply to become a permanent resident :)

I have a documented visit to Mexico in August 2021, and am currently staying in Mexico until the end of my 180 day stay in October. I do not have an FMM, as they are no longer giving paper FMMs at the Monterrey airport. Instead, the airport staff stamped my passport and wrote the final day of my 180 day stay in my passport. Would the fact that I do not have an FMM affect my ability to apply for the Regularization program after my 180 day stay? Does it suffice that I have the end date of my 180 day written into my passport? Your insight on this would be much appreciated, thanks.

Yes that’s correct. It’s not an issue though- as a temporary resident you have all the same benefits.
