Girl!!! As usual your videos are a lifesaver! Hubby has his renewal next month. He was going crazy looking for videos that would explain the process since this is so new. I’m like, hold up! I’m pretty sure Alex would have a video, and Alas! Thx girl!!! 💖

Thank you Ivonne and Alex. The appointment system seems to be working really well right now. I renewed my residency in Leon last week and it was extremely streamlined and efficient. No super early morning waiting in a line. There were some people turned away becuase they did not have an appointment even though they were not busy that day. You have to make an appointment - no walk-ins.

Hey mira!! It's two of my favorite Mexico expat experts!! You both have been so helpful to me - life-changing really. Alex, I love your videos, they are so informative and fun! Ivonne has helped me with my transition to Mexico, my canje, my RFC, and my TIP renewal. My advice to anyone serious about moving to Mexico is to accept help from Host Relocation. They really make it smooth because they do this every day. Absolutely worth it!

I think you might be confused. Are you applying for a Resident Visa or have you lived in Mexico for five years and want to actually take the test for citizenship? Are you fluent in Spanish? Do you have a good enough knowledge of the history and culture of Mexico in order to pass the test? If you are going for your citizenship test you don't do that at a Consulate in the US but I'm sure Ivonne could help you in Mexico. Buena suerte!

Good news about online appointments and paperwork. Page translation would be nice, but as you said, Google translate will work just fine, thanks for the information!
@seanseoltoir10 сағат бұрын
I've tried it, but Google Translate doesn't work that well... Some things don't get translated because the web developers used images of text instead of actual text... It's quite painful to go through and I never found where an appointment could be made... Eventually, I gave up...

I don't even think about immigration issues no matter where I travel. I have been living in Mexico for 4 years and all I do is travel somewhere out of country every 6 months for a week or so and then come back. In fact, from early 2021 to May 2023 I never left the country at all. When I tried to take a flight out of country at that time, the ticket agent sent me to the customs counter. They charged me an 800 pesos fine ($50.00 U.S.) and I was good to go. It is so easy to live in another country without all the immigration hassles.
@alex-wittman2 күн бұрын
It's definitely possibly to live in Mexico as a perpetual tourist (leaving every six months), but I remember in 2021 when immigration cracked down on that & actually denied entry to Mexico or only granted short stays to people with that kind of travel history.--it motivated a lot of people to get their residency in case that happens again.

Facilitators are VERY VALUABLE!! It will be the best money you spend. They know the process online and in the INM office. They do EVERYTHING from making your appointment to going with you on your appointment day. All you have to do is show up at the INM office for your appointment. Also on your day you will pay your Facilitator and the INM office fees too. The price should be about $150-$200 for a facilitator. They all do the same thing so don't overpay. Find more Facilitators that work other INM offices in other states on FB, Getting Mexican Residency.

Thank god! A year or so ago I renewed my temp reidency in Mexico and hired a service to wait outside for me. Even though my spot was held and I was at the front of the line, somehow, I ended up going dead last and sat outside in a chair all day. This is much more efficient, but the only thing that worries me is appoitment timing. The last time they had their appointment system, I had to wait 3 months for my appt. So if one is renewing and tight on time, things might get complicated. Not sure if there appt system has gotten more efficient since then. I hope so.
@alex-wittmanАй бұрын
The new appointment system is much more efficient because you can only make an appointment up to two weeks out. You can't book months and months ahead--that plus no cancelation option is what clogged up the old system.

Personally, I would cancel the old appointment & make a new appointment with the new pieza number to avoid any confusion. INM can be very particular about those sorts of things!

@alex-wittman A quick update just been to the Playa Del Carmen offices today, I took a chance as the system wouldn't allow me to cancel the appointment with 24hrs to go. I was fortunate they accepted my updated form with new pieza number, no questions asked. I'd already lost time with Cozumel not having cards. I wouldn't suggest anyone risking it though.

Right, the consulate I have been to told me three times "no this is too detailed", "this is not good enough explained", I needed to leave the country I was in and my household list did not get their acceptance -> "come back in six weeks". I gave up as my visa forced me to enter Mexico within 6 months and the consulate played with my nerves. There are countries which want means and skills and those which do not. Mexico is not hungry anymore.

Will the Cozumel office finally let you pay for three years instead of one at a time?
@alex-wittman2 күн бұрын
When you first get your temporary residency card, it's only valid for a year. Everyone has to renew it. But after that first year, you should be able to renew for up to three years. I hadn't heard of any offices not adhering to that.

Where can I find a facilitator I’m located in North Carolina?
@alex-wittman2 күн бұрын
The facilitator won't be able to help you with part of the process that you do at a consulate in the US, but they can help you with the second part of the process in Mexico. Ivonne (the facilitator I interviewed for this video) is a great option or you can find facilitator recommendations in expat Facebook groups.

I’m going to La Paz in February, 2025 n wanted to stay there 2 months, until end of March. I wanted to start my temporary visa process in Chicago then go to La Paz, and complete it while I’m there. I’m confused because I read if I Start Process in Chicago, n go to La Paz to complete it, I can only stay in La Paz 30 days n must return to Chicago. Did I misunderstand? When should I start process in Chicago, if I’m going there beginning of February?
@alex-wittmanАй бұрын
Once you enter Mexico with your temporary resident VISA, you have 30 days to exchange it for your residency CARD. After that, you're good to go! You don't need to leave after 30 days, you just need to finish the residency process within that window. I would reach out to the consulate ASAP to find out how to book an appointment for the visa interview.
@RogerTheriaultАй бұрын
Thanks for this - I just went through the system myself for a renewal. It's improved over last year's microsite. But - not all INM offices are using the appointments right now. For the state of Oaxaca, there's only one INM office showing in the appointment system, the one in Oaxaca City. But fortunately, the other offices are not crazy busy. You can only discover this when you have your pieza and go to make the appointment - and it may change... You'll still need to use the website to generate all the paperwork (i.e. complete, download and print the pieza -- the Basic Format cover sheet / Format Basico that applies to your Tramite -- and the required attachments, so your info is in their computers).
