Hey Matthew! Great video. I set this up for myself a few years back and it saved me tons of time! Just an FYI, if you just duplicate the folder and rename the copy, it’ll carry all the nested folders over. Keeps your from having to do the drag and drop!

So glad you've been able to use something like this in your own workflow, Zak! And thanks for the Duplicate tip - always love how my viewers give tips so all of us can improve!

thanks, Matthew - easy to listen to and love the passion for your natural skills in helping others (like me) I have just bought the templates and so glad I am using yours as I was quickly going to create my spaghetti of files and structures'. you really used the KISS principle thank you

Everyone loves some tidy broccoli. I literally used my finder template twice this week, and yet I’d never considered sub dividing the a roll and b roll in finder (though I do in FCP)

I'm kind of addicted to sub-dividing... 😬

Great video. I have a doubt. After finishing the video, what do you do with the files that will not be used I mean those that remain in the 1 Documents, 2 Project files, 3 media and 4 thumb folders? I'm unsure if after finishing the video I should delete the remaining files or keep them for some time.

Nice one, I have a request. I have an external HD with about 4 TB's of Overlays, "FX" , Film Grains, Film Burns, Scribbles, you name it and am wondering if there is a way to have a project on the HD so I can have all my FX and overlays in that project, then I can choose my favorites from all those FX to find easily when working on other projects on another SSD external HD, Which means, Can I have 2 Projects open at the same time and flip between my working project and the fx files, overlays etc etc project to grab the ones I like for my current project and drag them over to the current project? Hope that makes sense. Or is there a way of doing that instead of having to always go look through my TB's of over lays etc etc.. Every time I want to try an effect, overlay, film burn or what ever.. Or is there anyway of having a data base for something like that kind of always "connected" to FCPX like the Sound library is. My sounds library is on my Mac and I fcpx directed to the Sound folder and can easily search for my sounds FX or any sound. I wish there was some way of doing that with my overlays, film burns, you get the idea, as well. ??? Or is there any kind of App that can organize files like that with hopefully a visual reference so I an see what I am looking for? Hope that all makes sense... LOL It is overwhelming all the Glitches, Overlays etc etc and FX I currently have...

Had to add another reply here. I would like to maybe throw all my FX. overlays, glitches, scribbles etc etc into a project and favorite the ones I really like and choose from that project to drag what I like for my current project from that project? But that means I would have to have 2 projects open on 2 different HD's ? Is that possible or is there a way of doing something like that? Thanks brother, you are the one who would know if it is possible. Basically like having Photos/Music/Apple TV/Sound effects which exists... I would like another one from that selection which would be stock, FX or whatever but video files..

Let me think on this to see what I can come up with for a video. I know exactly what you're talking about though...

@@matthewTobrien Thanks, would be great, but is it possible to have 2 projects open from 2 different hard drives?

FCP is the database you are looking for! I do what you are suggesting. Works great. I have an FCP Library called "Tools and Templates" which sits on my startup drive in the Movie folder so it's always there. Just pop it open and drag the bits you want from the "Tools..." Library - organised by Events, Favourites, Keywords, etc - and drag them into the Library you're working with. It copies the media to the new Library, which doesn't save space but it means the Library is portable, and no hunting for media, re-linking, etc. I got elements like smoke, snow, dust, etc and logos and other graphics, openers and closers, TV clocks and even PDFs with instructions and tech specs for TV.
