Love and obsession can sometimes go hand in hand, especially in a new and exciting relationship and can be perfectly normal. However, where does the line start to blur? How do you know when things have gone too far? Love is different from obsession, so in this video, we will be comparing love and obsession to find out. We'll also be talking about Obsessive Love Disorder (OLD).

The 1st one was with my ex before I broke up, tho, I needed someone to pull me out of that situation and he did (he's an online friend of mine) The 2nd one? Oh lord, she has voices in her head, now friendly I guess, but she also kept being so negative and wouldn't even let me succeed in fully helping her and seriously, she was the most negative person ever and I've never felt so burnt out in my entire life before I met her The 3rd one? It's not that surface level, but she mostly talks about her problems like I'm her therapist 4th one? I give a lot of myself because she seems more sensitive like seriously, I can't even be funny or joke around at all without them taking it literally And as for the 5th one, she only talks about it once before taking it the other way (and also, she wasn't only seeing other girls, she literally dated one while we were dating without confirmation of anything and at first they said "I'm bi" then said "I'm poly" after I found out then they said "I'm ace" after we broke up and then saying that she likes another person that is nonbinary) She was also pretty toxic, I felt like I couldn't talk to her without making her feel upset at me, she probably has gotten over the obsession on me to another person (btw, she's trans which is why I got a little confused when typing this long reply and almost type he instead of she and dw, I no longer have any connections with her, trying to get myself together and maybe also try to get a therapist for my past trauma that I never felt like it got closure at all when I'm older cuz my mom doesn't believe me and my dad doesn't even want to pay for an actual therapist so went to his friend that helped me a bit before it hit me again and also, my online friend is nice, but I got trust issues so it's taking me time to trust him and we face timed so dw, he's not a creepy old man that's for sure lol)

I’m curious what it would look like if both partners were obsessed. It seems a bit unlikely but it’s an interesting thought to me that even though what two people might do may be a tad bit unhealthy, they do it together and to the same degree for each other. Weirdly enough, I experienced being obsessed and in love the same year but diff month. Thankfully I realized how toxic I was with my best friend. Before I thought I was just madly in love with her but overtime I got back to my senses and apologized to her and we started our relationship all over again. We've been best friends for the last six years and we have grown to have a much deeper and healthier bond. My story of experiencing being genuinely in love for the first time is another story but I can summarize it as: Full of warmth, changes, and green flags (and probably a lot of rollercoaster rides)

The worst part about this is that the line between healthy love and obsession can be very thin sometimes that you don't know when you cross it. I am glad we now have videos like this one to guide people and help them know when they are going over.

I don't think it's thin at all. Of course at the beginning of the relarionship it is fine to obsess, but after some time it is very easy to notice if someone is too obsessive ( of course outside perspective can reveal this easily) and if the person can't really change you miggt have to just call it a day

what moment? Were you sleeping through your relationship. Did you suddenly just pull your head from the sand. Why couldn't you sense aspects of your relationships gradually degrading. When you think you're too attractive for someone and are only open to your idea of guys who you think have a "god like" appearance, that's just poetic justice when you're turfed out for a younger prettier girl. Been there, buddy. These can also be signs of abuse/trauma from past relationships or even from childhood. I was clingy and fussy with my ex. We broke up, got together, then broke up again after I caught her cheating. That left me with trust issues I often manage but are easy to fall back into. You may even trust your current partner but feel insecure about you two, or skeptical of the people with whom they hang out. In that case, it's important to work on ourselves first. Good luck out there and stay safe!

This answered so many questions I've had in the past. As far as I know now, I've gone through 2 relationships that were very obsessive. Both times my partner was very obsessive over me and constantly wanted to be around me, even going as far as breaking my boundaries, such as: pulling me away from friends and family, guilt tripping me into being with them whether it be passive or direct, and always watching where I was. I always found it super creepy when my partner would text me "You never told me you'd be at (friends names) house??", signalling that they were watching me through Find My Friends on their phone... I had conversations with them about it and they always just sorta pushed it off... I don't get it... Why do some people want you all to themselves. It's not like the world is going to take me away, I'm still here. I wish I could sit down with one of my ex's and ask them this without them throwing a bunch of jargin in my face about me breaking up with them. Hell, I wish I could've sat down with them During the relationship and asked them about this and had them understand. Dating is hard... But, from past experiences comes a present mind for future events. We learn from everything
@sgaf7001
@sgaf7001 Жыл бұрын
Our conversations were always just on a surface level. Whenever I try to open up, I could tell he's not taking it seriously. I never had a moment where I could feel that I could count on him. He likes talking to me, but only about his romantic plans and ideals. I had to say bye after trying to build that emotional connection that we don't have. It's for the both of us. Even if we do find ourselves being in a relationship, it will still not work. Not with an emotional person like me.

This is something a lot of people should be looking out for because people think that being obsessed with their partner will solve all the problems but in reality if you’re a believer in God like me, it’s actually having a person as an idol and that causes more problems instead of actually solving any of them. well actually there is some philosophy out there that supports your statement. søren kierkegaard argues that in seeing God as an object/idol, there would be no reason to pursue belief in him since we are certain of his existence and everything about him, making him seem uninteresting, and giving no more reason to have faith. i guess the same would go for people- why would you want to be with them if there’s nothing more to discover? we need that sense of mystery in our lives to keep us going with them, and we need the space from them to keep this sense of mystery alive.

Even with my mom, if she doesn’t get home when she says she will I will look at the map showing where she is. It’s not that I’m needy or one of those annoying girls who is basically glued to their boyfriend, I just hate the thought of them leaving so I will try making them as happy as possible. I’ve lost way to many people in my life due to loss and just drifting apart that especially with a significant other, I want to be with them forever. I get a bit creepy, I know. I watch my crushes go to each class to figure out their schedule and locker and when they go to lunch. To me its more of a comfort thing, knowing where they are or how close they are.

Hi there 👋🏻 You said you are young - have you ever been assessed for anxiety? If you’re open to suggestions, you could look into that. It seems like you live with a lot of fear of loss as your base level, and you don’t have to feel that way. 🫂❤️ Lots of love

Sounds like separation anxiety, rather than obsession, but that's just a guess.

Thank you so much, my first relationship was like this. I guess I learned from her that this is how you should be, always talking and never having time apart, but I was just unhappy. It became more a routine of doing what she wanted me to do than me actually enjoying it. I hope this isn't too personal but I appreciate this video!

An obsession can easily be compared to an addiction. Personally, I remember when I had a huge obsession with this girl I used to be very close friends with years ago. Her name was Whitney. Whitney was in the same grade as me, and the 2 of us shared a few classes together in the 8th Grade during the 2004-2005 school year. Not only did she and I have a lot of mutual friends, but my family actually knew hers for years. Matter of fact, my late father was really good buddies with her father. It's like Whitney and I inherited our friendship from our fathers. However, shortly after High School started for me and Whitney, Whitney eventually found my attention towards her to be more than she bargained for. Even if I wanted to, I couldn't have backed off from her easily as a result of the obsession I had with her. In all honesty, Whitney was NEVER my girlfriend. Nobody ever was. It was just these obsession induced delusions going around in my head that had me thinking that she was my girlfriend. Eventually, much to my dismay, I wound up on the receiving end of a no-contact order from her. I soon backed off. Later on, in the 11th Grade, it seemed that Whitney and I were in the process of reconciling, but it didn't take long for Whitney to develop a habit of leading me on by acting nice to me in person only to go behind my back and tell the school staff that I was bothering her. Eventually, in April 2008, the police made the no-contact order more strict. Tragedy struck on June 10, 2008 when lunch break came around. I got to my usual table (not knowing that Whitney planned on sitting there). When Whitney saw me there, she made up a story about me stealing her seat while she got up to "get a bottle of water" and called the police to arrest me. I tried to explain myself about what really happened, but I was cut off mid-sentence and arrested as a result of the false accusation that Whitney made against me. I had to go to court every month. This was a very traumatizing experience for me. I remember it well like it was yesterday. As long as I live, I will NEVER forget it. Now that I'm free from the obsession I used to have with Whitney (as if 2012), as "atonement" for my past obsessive actions, I now have intentions of remaining single for the rest of my life to prevent myself from developing a romantic interest in ANYONE ever again. Now while I do realize that people are trying to help by telling me that they're sure that I might "find the right woman", I highly doubt it. The incidents that took place in High School took their toll on me, permanently scarring me for life. However, while I do realize that no-contact orders are to protect stalking victims from stalkers (which is what they SHOULD be used for instead of being hijacked for use as weapons of prejudice against people who have autism like me), I have a burning hatred for them because of my bad experience of being on the receiving end of such a thing for unfair reasoning. NOTE: If Whitney herself ever happens by even the slightest chance to find my comment here, "DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT TAKE THIS PERSONALLY!! If you didn't get me in trouble with the police, some other woman would've! The thing is, the incidents in High School involving the 2 of us could've happened with ANYONE I would've developed an infatuation with, and the consequences could've been a lot worse, especially if it were someone whose family never knew my family, as well as someone who never knew anyone I was ever friends with! I encourage you to at least be glad that I'm free now from the obsession I used to have with you. But hey, despite my single life preference, I am aware of the positive things about being married, so I do respect the marriages of others. I don't know if you're married or not Whitney, but if you are, congratulations on your marriage".

One thing to note is that not all people are lively in a relationship but that doesn't mean they don't love their partner to the core. Some people don't like loud noises, areas, or situations that make them get overwhelmed. It's important to know that if you see this in your partner, have a talk in an environment where the other feels safe. The partner may meet the other things pointed out in the video except for the level of noise which may be from past, personality, stress, or something else. If it's changeable, help them. If it's their personality, don't help them unless they have a goal where they want to challenge themselves with being louder but needs a bit of help and courage. It's then your choice after the talk to break up or stay with them despite their quiet habits. Whichever you choose, don't be scared to let your partner know the changes. It's bad for them to know because it makes them sad but 10x as worse if you're hiding it from them. It's like a company. Tell, people may not be as mad. Hide then tell at a later date, extremely bad.

For the longest time I didn't know what real love was. Every relationship I had was an illusion because I had convinced myself that I loved them when in reality I was obsessive and constantly thinking about them for absurd reasons. It was only during my first mushroom trip when I felt real love and realized what it was, then afterward I've had a few more and my brain has been reset ever since. I am no longer obsessive and now I am just fine being single until I meet the right one.
