If you’re a moderately competitive cyclist, you HAVE to have a power meter. Power meters give you a more accurate representation of your work (energy) when you’re running.
Think about running uphill.
Can you look at your pace? Nope, it’ll be slow.
Can you look at your heart rate, maybe, but if the hills short your heart rate will struggle to 'catch up' to your effort.

I was hit by a drunk driver and crushed my left leg back in 2014, ever since then I go out everyday and run as much as possible just to be thankful I'm still alive and have my legs.

I’ve recently used Running Power for a 17 min. threshold session. It prevented me from running too hard because I want to be able to sustain the pace for the whole time. It works really well better than HR and pace. I was also experiencing 16 mph headwinds and my running power went close to my Vo2 max power yet my HR indicates that it is in the “tempo” zone. It was also 45 degrees F outside. Yeah, I’m starting to like Running Power more than HR, pace or even RPE.

That's cool. It takes a little while to figure out the nuances of running power, as it could be better in all scenarios, but overall, it's a great tool.

Next up..........can you do a video on your experience so far with the corebodytemp sensor? Does it pair with your Polar Vantage V3? What have you learnt so far?

I use the critical threshold from my Garmin lactate threshold test. Is that a good metric to use rather than the 1k and the 5k? Thanks

I'm currently testing running power from Garmin. So far it looks consistent, but my average speed dropped by 10-20s/km using run power to guide my effort. So either my rFTP measurement was bad or I was training to hard using pace. I live in a flat area, so pace worked quite well so far, except maybe on very windy days. With run power I noticed especially my lower zones becoming slower, threshold and above seem slightly faster on average, not sure if that's normal. I used a 3/9min CP test.

Try my 5km and 1km power test to see if that gives you better results drwilloconnor.com/critical-power-calculator/

I see your HR zone estimates are quite similar to what Garmin give me by default (judging by my last 10k race time). I reckon these are calculated with respect to LT2? Also do you share the exact percentages out of the LT2 for each zone so we can calibrate it in Garmin?

Hey Mate, Garmin does you LT2. If you jump on one of my newer video there's a link to my new "how to" guide for running with HR. All my % are in there.

i have stryd. it gives different distance measurement when using different shoes. hard to trust the data it gives when it can't get the distance right. they say the new generation is better but i don't want to gamble at that price. i did with my wind pod stryd and it was a disappointment

I know what you're saying, but GPS is equally variable. I don't use stryd for distance anymore, just power. Even then, I need to make different adjustment factors for different shoes.

Why use stryd if you want run by pace?

I don't think it's reasonable to believe a power meter should be able to estimate the distance!
