I've found a fan heater to be an excellent way to blow dust around the workshop. I stopped using it and installed an infra-red heater instead. This keeps me much warmer more quickly.

Sorry to say it but that heater is going to drain the batteries way quicker than you think. We have a similar battery in our campervan and my attempts at running even a little 300w fan heater were disappointing. If you're doing anything, an infra red panel would be more effective and wouldn't blow dust around as another commenter said.

I’m just about to install a Delta Pro to do the same - have you got a video of your setup - if not would be interesting to see what you’ve done 👍

I use a zeolite/desiccant based dehumidifier instead of a heater now in the workshop. These put out about 300-500W of heat and move the air, like a fan heater, but also remove water (into a tank you empty after ~15-30 hrs of use, depending obviously on how much moisture there is in the first place) and help prevent rust, wood warping, etc. Knock on wood it's been reliable for the past couple of years (Ecoair brand). In a small, well sealed space, even the moisture from your breath is enough to cause rusty tools.

i have a similar vice - i mounted it onto a T shaped pit of wood which i can clamp in my bench vice. no need to hold it then :)

I am blessed to live in Southwest Florida in the US. Our January high temperatures average around 25° C. Luckily my shop is air conditioned because summer highs average around 33° C. 😎🌴

You would only need a diesel heater on the lowest setting to heat that place.
@GreenSaxonАй бұрын
Imagine the cost of that set up too, eco flow/ solar panels/heater/wiring. Cost an absolute fortune. Have to sell a hell of a lot of lamps to justify that lot.
@MS-watch-YTАй бұрын
Do those solar panels really give enough to charge the battery in winter when you’ll be running the heater on top of tools?
@dwalsh3469Ай бұрын
I kinda doubt it, particularly in winter. But, I might be wrong.
@120woodcraftАй бұрын
I have a 2kw fan heater in my reasonably insulated shed workshop. On cold mornings it can take 2 hours to get warm. I’m on mains power but yours will chomp through the power pack. I’ve been considering a diesel heater simply for the fast heating. Less convenient, but far quicker.
@joelhollingsworth2374Ай бұрын
One option that might be interesting is a portable air conditioner: one would need a valve to make a built-in unit double as a heat pump, but a window or portable unit can sometimes be used for heating just by changing the way air flows. Such a unit might be less expensive than usual at this time of year.

I've recently experienced the heat from an IR panel, did a good job. However, that doesn't move the air. I've also used an electric caravan heater. Lovely video Matt!

@freakeystyley34Ай бұрын
What are you doing for ventilation in there Matt? You shouldn't assume it'll look after itself. There are little units available with heat recovery that just blow cold air out for a minute, also heating up a block inside, then blow fresh cold air in for a minute, heated by the block.

why don't you mount your vice to a wooden board with a block on the bottom so you can clamp it into your wood clamp on your work bench and it won't rattle around when you try to use it?
@forgotrafeАй бұрын
I've done that with my grinder and a few other tools that don't deserve a permanent bench mount. Works really well.

Hi Matt, you are looking comfortable very jealous you only need a bar now. Where do you get those door insulators? Just a thought about your tea holder looks rather chunky. Why did you not split your wood on the band saw? Your program is brilliant, watched for years.
