I rarely buy fabric at the store. Over the years I have been so very lucky to find “good” (I am picky) quilt fabric. When I find a box of scrap cotton fabric, I’m happy for days! I buy a lot so I make sure when I get home, I process (sometimes they need washed & ironed) ever piece. Mainly because I love to touch and explore my treasures! I ever find batting, threads, mats, rulers at estate sales. I make this comment every time I get a chance when all you KZbinrs talk about this. My quilts cost very little❤️ (KH)

Have you sewed up Mug Rugs or coasters for the smaller bits of fabric? They make great gifts as they don't have to match up to a particular bedroom decor 🍄🍄
@davidhatfield57146 ай бұрын
@@dcinrb8538 no never have. I have very little scrapes I can’t use in quilts. I have made 3or four “crumb” quilts. I’m addicted to crumb quilt sewing ❤

Whenever I visit family, the Goodwill in Sunnyslope is my favorite side stop. Lots of bed linens and fabric remnants and discount days. Just remember to read the bedsheets labels for fabric content And any warnings.....One extra long twin set (dorm room beds) warned against Open Flames... Didn't buy obviously...lol 🍄🍄

Love the ideas. I need to go thru my stash and find those fabrics that don't inspire me anymore. I'm sure a local quilter or guild could make use of them. Me? I'm heading to a couple of local thrift stores!!

When I was pregnant 55 years ago my husband was in basic training and MiL took me to several thrift stores, DAV being her favorite. My baby’s clothes for her first couple years cost almost nothing. Thrift store fabric is wonderful but if I see things that can be cleaned up and fixed for babies, I will get them, fix them, launder them and donate to places with young mothers. 😊
@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise4 ай бұрын
That's so awesome for you to do that! My husband and I volunteer at a local food and clothing 'pantry' and I hadn't thought of looking elsewhere for more donations. Thanks for the idea! Thanks so much for watching! Happy Quilting, Lea Louise

❤❤❤ I already shop at Goodwill, Consignment Shops, and the Salvation Army for 100% Cotton fabric that I can use in making quilts and many other things. I often buy men's lightly used dress shirts, skirts, and blouses to obtain beautiful plaids, straps, and prints. I'm not the only one who is doing this.

Thanks for sharing these ideas. Although wondering when getting fabric from thrift store is it ok to add new fabric to the pieces without being washed first. Am fairly new to quilting and this is something i have been wondering about. I enjoy watching your videos.

Wash. Always wash first!!! Rest assured the donations have been washed while being used previously.
@jules47666 ай бұрын
@@koalasez1200 yes i would wash them also. I should have worded it as should the new fabric be washed first.with the shrinkage in mind. Hopefully that is clearer.
@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise4 ай бұрын
Yes you can certainly prewash your fabrics, Jules! Honestly, I don't simply due to the time involved and the pressing afterwards. I rarely notice a visible difference and am fine with the results. It's a personal decision for you so give it a try and see which you like best. Thanks so much for watching! Happy Quilting, Lea Louise

How do you feel about broadcloth
@kathy29516 ай бұрын
I know you aren't asking me But. I love broadcloth. It sews up just like any woven and it lasts and holds its original color. I made a baby quilt 30 years ago and it looks like new.
