In the hypothetical line at 10:40 Ne5 does not win black's Queen, since black can take it with f x e4. However h7 is an unstoppable pawn promotion to a queen.

Can you explain how is it unstoppable ?
@abhi_galav
@abhi_galav 2 жыл бұрын
Pawn takes knight, white queen takes black knight, queen to e1 check, king moves to h1, queen takes f2, Now pawn at e4 is protected and if all go fine, nothing is stopping that pawn
@KarlRKaiser
@KarlRKaiser 2 жыл бұрын
Before this, at 10:31, white does not have to check with the knight. Just play pawn h7. The rook is pinned and cannot capture. Black has one check to make with the queen, but then white queens with check.

@@abhi_galav yes but technically both the statements are wrong, the queen isn't gone(not forced) and the pawn can be stopped (tho extremely difficult but it's promotion isn't forced).

If you look at what they've been doing this year, Magnus continously trashing people in tournaments and Nepo at home with his head in a book(or training), I'm pretty sure Nepo has a couple of explosive tactics to spring on Magnus. I'm not underestimating Magnus, though. He's not one to run from a challenge. Safe to say, it is not possible to oversell the 2021 World Championship. Edit: Yeah, thanks for pointing that out. @10:34 the point of Ne4 is not to pick up the queen, black will just capture with the F-pawn. the point is that after that you just push H7 and bring in another queen very soon. It also works without the Knight sacrifice but for some reason the engine enjoys this move. Maybe without the knight there is a faster mate.

Reflection from looking at the score card: I've always been fascinated by the fact that basically the same super GMs are on top in both blitz and classical formats. Okay, some have edges in one or the other (for example, Hikaru being a blitz specialist, Caruana perhaps less so compared to his classical), but basically the same field. Compare this to sports for example, sprint vs long distance runners.

In chess it is basically the same skillset, only honed in differently for different time formats. Also, cognitive skills can be acquired/improved without directly trading another one (but losing over time if not employed enough). Whereas in muscle performance, the specialisation to the one end hampers performance at the other end, it is a trade-off. Interesting would be to look at a different field of brain work. If you gather the best chess players who also are good at quantum physics and best quantum physicists who can play chess well, the same people would not flock at the top for both fields. But, because one life is not enough time to cover both. Would it be possible if they had two lives in parallel, or is the way of thinking too different as well?

Because the pawn on h6 will promote. The rook is still pinned to the king, and after 1 check from the black queen , there aren't other checks to stop the pawn from white pawn from queening.

@@nathanong87 thank you for your insight Nathan! Although I don't think that's why agad said it (he says "you win black's queen" he doesn't mention the pawn) that's something I definitely would have not noticed, so thanks again for your comment

10:30 I don't get why fxe4 doesn't work in this position ? Pawn is not pinned, that's not a double check so King doesn't have to move I mean, just h7 instead and Black has nothing to stop promotion, so indeed Black is busted anyway.
