Get real here ladies, I’m in the age group of the Waspi women, and am now 70, the pension benefits are well below the living wage, it’s really hard to manage…..save for your pension as early as you can afford to.

I’m 78 years old now, but retired at 64 1/2. When I was 28 my father told me to save for my old age. I joined our company profit sharing plan putting a small 7 percent a paycheck in it. 38 years later when I retired I had plenty to live on with my pension, VA compensation, and returns on my profit sharing savings. The only thing I didn’t count on was losing my spouse and not having her with me in my retirement years.

You can't tell me that the majority of the woman on that panel couldn't afford to retire now. Even if it means selling up and moving to a cheaper area / downsizing.
@memecakes44369 ай бұрын
I don’t think they can, they are only early sixties if they live up to 80 that will be 20 years of no income, probably except state pension when they hit 67 or 69 by that time. That’s not affordable to them or to the life style they want. I don’t think they are in the verge of being homeless but they might not afford to retire either.

Life expectancy is something that should be considered when the government wants to increase retirement age.

You can give as much as you like …it’s a big misunderstanding that we can only give 3k ….but anything more MIGHT be liable for tax should you die within seven years…(on a sliding scale..).. this is relevant for those family’s facing large inheritance tax bills

They dont tell you what you can give , you can give what you like …but when you die…with in seven years of the cash gift ..tax MAY be liable …it’s on a sliding scale .but for most of us it’s not. Up to £3000 is except anything over that MAY be liable.

In 2011 GOVUk created a law that if you were employed then a minimum 5% was taken at source and put into a pension scheme and employer put in 5% Currently you have to work full time for minimum 35 years to get full stamp This may change A lot if people I know have bought property in the buy to let it bought holiday homes etc as their pension but in the budget a few weeks ago you will be taxed more

I’ve had a recent surprise despite having 42 years of NI contributions I only had 4 years since the new rules came in 2016 therefore I’m one year short of the 35 required! So here’s the Maths…. Pre 2016 I had 39 NI years BUT only 30 were required so 9 were discarded 😢 After 2016 I only added 4 years so I’ve got 34/35 required! It’s madness. I retired on an occupational pension 2019. HMRC can’t decide if I need to buy a year of Class 2 NI (£150) or Class 3 NI (£850)….

If you have been able to save for your retirement then spend it on good quality residential care. Don't rely upon the State as their contribution won't find you a level of comfort that you may have been used to.

PENSION PLEA We are the women born in the 50’s, Who will not falter in our fight. The government postponed our pension. This isn’t fair. It isn’t right. We contributed to this Nation, Our workforce made this county great. We don’t deserve to be singled out Told our pensions have to wait. We enriched the UK’s economy, As teachers, nurses, mother and wife. Now a random birth date lottery Gives us an impoverished life. We did as the government bade us, Made sacrifices and paid our due. Now is the time to repay that debt, We did our bit. Now its up to you. Trudy Howson LGBT Poet Laureate
