Most of us just want to be told what to do to get the "best" locs, without realizing that there is no such thing. There are far more people who encourage the idea of having well manicured locs than people like you who just say let it do what it do because all locs are beautiful. Good point saying we should stop thinking in a manner saying what's "good hair".

My locs have always been lumpy and I figured my curls locked into place. I remember when my family would tell me I ruined my hair and would reference my locs as “white folks” locs and I should take scissors to cut away the lumps! I’m now 5 years in and I’m glad I left my hair alone and didn’t listen to others

I have finally reached my 1 year anniversary of starting my locs and I've struggled with accepting the lumps at first. I have a soft hair texture and I started with two-strand twists. I learned that the hair can shrink at different rates, causing the lumps. I also discovered that they sell "butterfly loc" extensions... so knowing that people are paying money to have what comes naturally to me is pretty encouraging.

My locs are like that. I go back and forth about using product to retwist or not to use product. I essentially choose no product every time. I use castor oil and argon oil for my scalp and locs and it helps my hair grow and moisturized without any build up and my scalp is healthy. I also thought I didn't like the lumpys (or "my curls fighting to get out" lol) until I started getting SOOOO many other loc'd people asking my how I get my locs to look like natural butterfly locs. And I also have some ends that won't loc and its just curly at the end. And Yannie, it was one of your videos that made me stop stressing about retwisting my new growth. It adds to the character of my hair.

Although this is an older video, I am so grateful I came across this video. My hair is soft, fine, puffy and a loser curl so my locs are different sizes and I also have lumps. The reasons you stated made total since because I had my sister start my locs (2 strand twist) and it wasn't tight. I had to redo the twist 2 months later. I then got my roots interloc'd almost 6 months later. I am now 4 years loc'd and I at some different points I tried to "fix" it because I thought it was a problem. I have a loctician and I only see her for special occasions or when I want to feel pampered. She always compliments my locs uniqueness and I didn't get it until now. Thanks...although I don't like long hair(it's always been past my shoulders, mid-back) with my current routine or lack thereof, I see my locs flourishing.

Yannie you are a treasure for real! I started my journey 4 weeks ago, when i got out of the military, with comb coils, found your channel 2 weeks into my journey. I threw away all the gels and unnatural products, stopped spraying water on my hair and even had my wife wash and comb out the little baby buds that had started forming. She restarted each section with a 2 strand and only used castor oil and rose water. I’m now 1 week with my 2 strands and already starting to put my monies away for a trip to see you next October and hopefully have my crown blessed!!! My family keeps telling me locs are not professional or good for getting a job. I got a great job offer with my locs anyway! I hope to have big, disrespectful, inappropriate, full locs! And you’re the reason why 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽.

Absolutely Beautiful/Healthy Crown❤ Wow... I just had a convo with my loctician about this.. I have microlocs and a couple of months ago I noticed "lumpies" as you call them on some of my locs. I asked my loctician what was going on, was there something I'm doing wrong, and whether it needed to be fixed. She simply said... "Shay your hair is doing what it's naturally supposed to do, your scalp is healthy, and so are your locs so leave your hair alone and continue to keep caring for it simple... wash when she (referring to my hair) tells you to, mist her with water, and use carrot or castor oil". She then reminded me when I was a loose natural all I needed to do was wet it and nothing but curls... no products or manipulation needed.

Thanks Yanni. I'm 2 1/2 years in and have interlocks. My hair is very fine and soft like baby hair. I could never wear braids with extensions because it would damage my hair. Some people made me feel some kind of way because my hair would have the bumps. Telling me to roll my hair so that the Locs can form better. Or maybe I should go to someone and have them to crochet the bumps so I can have perfect Locs. Thank God I don't like a lot of people in my hair. I've research it all and it took me a long time to find someone who could make Locs perfect. Then the pandemic came and I couldn't go to that person. But guess who I met? Yanni. She has taught me how to embrace my Locs. They don't need to maintain all the time. Stop letting people tighten my hair. I have the white balls at the ends of my hair from someone maintaining my hair too tight. With your recommendation of how to wash my hair and the Rosewater and vitamin e my hair is growing like weeds and being healthy. Of course people ask.... Don't you have breakage because you don't maintain your hair often? And I say no. It's healthy. I appreciate this video because I know my hair is just doing it thang. Thank you so much for showing hair that resembles mine and educating me. Ive never heard of the butterfly Locs.

I just celebrated my first 'lociversary'. I got lots of lumpy's!!! After washing this video I think its due to my hair texture. The lumps are towards the ends of my locs and not the hair closer to my scalp. I was wondering about the twisting in opposite direction as Yannie spoke about. The person that started my locs....I can't have her touching my hair anymore and I went for a re-twist a few months ago. Nice woman, but she had not a clue! "Anywho", I've learned to embrace my hair, lumps and all! I thought I wanted 'well manicured locs' but I actually like my hair a bit more free forming. I'm waiting for the day to have locs that are disrespectful and so inappropriate that I can't stand it!!! I'm sick of the shenanigans!!! LOL, LOL.. Thanks Yannie! Everything you stated in your video makes sense like the Crochet needle I have had stylists use that in my hair to try to cut down on the frizziness not knowing the damage it can really cause . Thank you for being real and I’m going to be patient and let my Locs take it’s course . Stay blessed

Thank you again Yannie, I don't care what people think about my locs, this my journey and I love them. Hair is doing what it does, because I listen to you and not to others my hair is doing it's thing.

Her locs are gorgeous and I really like the haircut she gave herself! I’m 19 months in and my locs are lumpy. Not as pronounced as this. Not sure if my hair would be considered soft because my hair texture changed as it got healthier. I’m using less oils and using simpler diys that work for me and yes I use essential oils, in my defense took a master course a few years ago and know how to use them and which ones lol. Thanks Yannie your videos are the only ones worth watching 🙏🏽

I am patiently waiting for your return to Georgia, if that's not going to happen, then I will just have to drive to Jersey! Love you Queen Yannie. Peace and Blessings to you and Jimmy 🙏💕💕
