ADHD Life Lessons I Wish someone told me after getting diagnosed, number 46 of 50.
If you have ADHD, it will be really easy for you to do what you want to do, but not what you should do. Whether it's at work or a side project, no matter how well you start, once you need daily effort and motivation, it becomes almost impossible because your brain lacks dopamine and so, you often switch to something else and lose potential compound interest on what could have been, all the while being called lazy.
This is when I had to learn about making my work dopamine-positive to help me play the long game. I realized that good things take time and that I needed to find a way to get dopamine from my work, so my brain can stick with it for longer. And while the work itself can't change, the environment usually can. Working outside, with other people or focusing on quality, rather than quantity has all made my work a lot more enjoyable, allowing me to stick with for years, instead of months.
Lesson 46: Make your work dopamine-positive.
