Arendal and the 1961 series gets its name from a major bridge that was built between tromoy and a the city of arendal, this made transporting goods, and commuting too and from much quicker and easier, before this bridge, people had to trail good on foot or on ski’s, as most goods came into the city off boats at tromoy , this was serious hard work. The bridge was completed in, 1961. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻.

Having had the 1723 range, I now have the S range with the smaller 6.5" drivers. The sound is absolutely superb. The guys over at Arendal Sound certainly know what they are doing. The 1961 subwoofer series is about bridging the gap between the mighty 1723 subwoofer range, to a more cost effective range. The subwoofer 1s and 1v. For its size, the 1s absolutely blew me a way, and I have had the Sub1,2 & 3. The 1v was also impressive, but I prefer sealed subwoofers. Keep up the awesome work Shane.

Steven, I got the big center a few days ago and plan to order a set of Monitor S and Surround S today :-) The S Center does not sound better than the bigger Center does it? I can still return the big center and get the S, but my thought was to go big on the center for dialogue. I am thinking I will use Surround S in the ceiling/Atmos and dialogue lift from Yamaha A2050.

I have these in the 8inch version and they are an absolute killer speaker! In fact they will be the last speaker I will ever buy. I have my front three on stands all vertically mounted behind an acoustic screen, they are just to die for. Just to point out the Arendal surrounds can be used as monopole, dibole as well as the amazing tripole, which is similar to the m&k surrounds

I just got my set up today. I got the 1723s Monitors for front stage and the surrounds. I kept the SVS height speaker from my trial with their Ultra towers theater set up. Their stuff was really really good, but once the arendal came in, the sound quality and stage presence was second to none. I ended up keeping the Arendals and keeping the SB3000 after hearing the PC2000 and PB3000. The PB was just too big and too powerful. The SB3000 is no slouch, it just gets the job done with a smaller footprint. The PC2000 sounded great, it’s just kind of hard staring at a trash can in my theater/living room space lol

Noo this was released Tuesday for me, but hey I'm not complaining haha. Love the review man and just to let you know their branding for 1961 has something to do with "building bridges" - I didn't pay attention in History class so I'm not sure what important bridge was built around that time, but that's the reason for the series name. I'm guessing they chose the name "building bridges" as this line is the bridge between their current 1723 line and other competitor's offerings at these price points. I get it, but I am initally a little disappointed. I mean It's great that they now have an adjustable DSP and more power (550w from 500w) but I'm not sure why they opted for a 12inch driver instead of going bigger to a 15 inch driver. I'm going to guess they are going to keep their current philosophy with this lineup and keep the same driver but increase the number of them and cabinet size so you'll end up with a 1961 V3 that's 1000watts with dual opposing 12inch drivers and the DSP. If this is the case, I would have thought it would make sense to release a line that was above the 1723 and release a line around a 15inch or 18inch driver, rather than a slight sidestep by downsizing but increasing the extension. But all in all, I'm pretty excited for the lineup and how it will play out. EDIT: FYI I'm in the UK and we're the ones that uses pounds - it's GBP - Great British Pound mate! Some European countries may have their own currency, but most of them use Euro's!

Hi Shane, great video as always. I am thinking of picking these speakers up as a replacement of my old Jamo LCR D6 5.2 setup. I want to put them behind my AT screen, against the wall. Can you tell me if this is possible due to the two ports on the back of the Arendals? Thanks in advance!
@therealshanelee
@therealshanelee 4 жыл бұрын
Yes they come with mounting hardware if you want to hang them. There's a tiny gap if you use them ported against a wall but I'd give them more room for the air too flow if you take the port plugs out.

TheWidowMaker well sorry to cavil, but unless you own both as I do , my conclusion stands. NB I am NOT knocking Arendal AT ALL-Love their subs, and if I had to choose one, certainly would be the Arendal. But the SVS is more optimized for HT listeners who want the floor and walls to vibrate. Arendal more balanced and a bit cleaner. Look if you are listening to music esp 2 channel, REL is the king (which I have also owned in he past) and for HT addicts who want to be blown out fo their seats by movies like Fury and Interstellar, SVS >Arendal. I dont think we are disagreeing per se...perhaps I’m just being More precise in my evaluation. I dont think its possible to make a sub that is king in all matters and I suspect that engineers at REL, SVS and Arendal would agree to that statement in private. I feel overall Arendal is the most balanced , useful of the three, but they all have their strengths-That’s inherent in the choices that the manufacturer HAS to make. I would add this. SVS has better options at equalization at the sub level, even compared to new Arendal platform. But if you have a good processor with great sound correction (Direc, Anthem etc) not sure that adds much value. And REL prices are higher for comparable build. Nobody offers the same value, quality build , placement flexibility or balance of Arendal subs. I also like their cabinet edge style and finish (sl matte and hex corners) YOU CANT LOSE WITH ANY OF THESE THREE LINES....NB I have not heard the latest KEF sub which sounds very competative with REL line, but I have owned Martin Logan subs. At the time they weren’t competative with REL and SVS (Arendal not in business) but IU hear they have raised their game.,Ive also demoe’d JTR, Rhytmik and PSA in my HT system- very good subs for the money, no doubt, but their cabinetry isnt, unsurprisingly, competitive with REL, SVS and Arendal.

@@johnwhite2576 I'm thinking about whether to choose between Arendal 1961 1v dual or svs pb2000pro dual at the same price. My room is not that big. (3.5 m × 5 m × 2.5 m) The ratio of movies and music is about 7:3. If svs is better in the movie because their spl is high, would I prefer the exact Arendal with a small room? I want to hear your opinion.
