Key things i think need addressing when it comes to Canada vs. Peru... - Canada have, in fairly quick succession, faced the 7th, 2nd, and 1st ranked teams in the world, in progressively tougher conditions. That seems to be taking a toll on them. - Canada are effectively building from the ground up again. A decent foundation from the last World Cup cycle, sure, but now it's time for them to get to the next level, and as much as we care about results, the fact that Canada is just getting these experiences is enough, because the end goal is getting out of their group in 2026, so as long as the prep between now and then is quality, and that is the result, that's all that matters. Getting out of the group would be massive for them, solely so that they can have more quality matches in this calendar year before they have to wait until September to have a friendly against Mexico. - The red card was deserved, but also, Peru should've gotten a red card in the first half. That headbutt was uncalled for, and the fact that the ref didn't ask the VAR crew to send it to the monitor for him to look at is a travesty. - As some others in the comments noted, the heat was a big factor for both sides (hell one of the assistant refs was taken off with heat stroke). Once the second half started, players on both sides stepped up because they weren't dealing with the heat so much. - The halftime sub on of Shaffelberg was the game changer, because everything positive for Canada in the second half was either centered around him or Crepeau's masterclass (get Crepeau to Europe ASAP). - Many people, including Canadians, felt Canada were the biggest underdogs in this group, and would be playing up in all these matches, and so far it's shown just that way. That said, by sheer circumstances, I think Canada could get to the Semifinals. Chilé are playing to win on Saturday, while Canada can settle for a draw, most likely, and then Quarterfinals they're facing the Group B winner, of which any of those sides are doable (certainly not easy, but doable), and then in the Semis they're likely rematching Argentina who frankly build into tournaments, so they'll probably be back to full force by the time they rematch, so Canada would likely get hit even harder than the tournament opener.

Chile has no scoring power. None of their forwards are a number 9 and they are not high scorers in their own leagues. This is why they haven’t been close to scoring a single goal this tournament. The production is another problem, I see them struggling again vs Canada.

Two factors impacting Canada in today's game:: (1) The Canada played a high energy, pressing game against Argentina and today looked somewhat gassed from that. (2) Canada, like some Scandinavian teams (as an exanple), do not play well in the heat. This game was played in the heat with the game beginning at 5pm. Shaffleburg specifically mentioned this in his interview, but he also mentioned that the reason he himself did well was because the sun had mostly gone down by the time he entered the game, specifically onto the side of the field he was playing on. It is worth noting that Canada's match against Chile will begin at 8pm so heat should be less of a factor than it was today in KC.

Agreed on Canada. This is the worst they've played in awhile. I don't know if it was nerves going in (Fossati talked about using fists), The Peruvian press, or the heat (it was over 100 degrees on the pitch I've heard and most of these guys don't play in conditions),... I don't know they just seemed scattered. No excuses of course, but have no clue. Marsch did well to make the subs he did, when he made them. Herdman likely wouldn't have made those same changes. Shaff is awesome. Lots of the Canadian press is mixed on whether he's better as a starter or a explosive sub. No idea. Crepeau was a god again. Even jumping on the downed ref to call over the paramedics. Hope that guy is OK. He didn't look well. Another eye to playing conditions.

I think 21 shots to 3 with 6 on target to 2.... You can't really say there was any injustice in the result of Chile vs Argentina, it was just Argentina not taking good decisions in the final third. If anything the result flatters Chile because they where utterly thrashed for 40 minutes traight in the first half and only had a spell of 10 minutes when they created those 2 shots on target.

I’ve seen sliding tackles where defenders completely miss the ball and land studs on player’s shins… agree, straight red card. In the CAN-PERU match, the defender cleared the ball first, then studs on shin… You have to allow a player a follow through. In the ARG-CHILE match, minute 26:34, top of the box, DePaul takes a shot on goal, his follow through completes when his studs land on a defender’s shin who slide-tackles from the side, looks painful but no foul, no yellow, no red. The Peruvian defender should’ve gotten a yellow card.

I don’t disagree it was a poor performance by tajon, who for the last 4 games has felt like he could play super well but just plain isn’t. But kone, I wouldn’t say he was worse than Buchanan, but he is so key to this teams success that him having a mid game made the rest of the team look like they were playing in rubber boots. I fully believe they are better than this, kone has proven that for Canada, and tajon has done so as well, but not for a while. This needs to be sorted. This fully can be sorted since they are better than this. Edit: I haven’t watched the whole video yet and I just got reminded by you guys about max crepeau and 100 percent agree he was absurdly good. I never want to have to see him do his job, but he does it so well I almost want to see Peru shots. Almost. Not really. My heart couldn’t take more than it already has.

?? In the same position, Di Maria is a legend for the NT, a clutch player who can make the difference, and he is retiring after this, so we want to see him play (plus his skill and style of play is beautiful, something we don’t see in the younger gen). Nico Gonzalez, as shown against Chile, is a key player for the functioning of this team, good both in offense and in defense. Garnacho’s merits do not outweigh that, and in this team, you really need to be a team player rather than ego. Garnacho is one of several hopes for the future for the NT, so that is why he is included in this Copa-so that he can gel with the group and show how he can work with the team when called for. I don’t care if he is a star boy, this is Argentina and he has to earn his place. Even Messi had his time in the bench, when Riquelme was around.
