My grandfather moved to Gjakova from albanian alps when he was a kid so I think he preserved quite a lot of gheg dislect. We dont say Albania at all. And we say madh not math. Basically we speak very similar to Gjergj Fishta. If you want to hear real Gheg dialect I think you should listen to Gjergj Fishtas Recitations.

I love how in touch she is with her heritage! Gjergj Kastriot seemed happy with the name Albanoi. And shqipe/shqiptare means shqiponje which is an Albanian word for our most important emblem. Arber, Alban etc were just different Albanian fise. Different tribes same peoples- the languages are different now because of influence from italian/greek and modernisation with Arbereshe and modernisation in Albania as well as turkish/slavic influence. Let us not forget that the language was already influenced many times before gjergj kastriots time and arberesh immigration to italy too 😂 I think its more important to identify similarities as opposed to differences 😂 For example id love to know if there are any survivals of Kanun/Doke/Zakon/Besa reciting? Is there anything written by any Arberesh from 16th century onwards mentioning these traditions, as it would be an interesting study!
