I really love the way you talk in detail about the overlook needles I wonder, do you have a video about the exact mechanics and results that overlook machines produce as well as the kind of seams that are created. Because I think my sister would be interested in knowing because she’s just finished working on splitting an overlocked one for me because I need a special slit on the inseam of two pairs of my slacks, I need those slits to accommodate medical device. I was lucky enough to once use an old-fashioned professional, overlock machine it was probably the most fascinating machine I have ever had a pleasure of using. The way it could put two pieces of fabric together while cutting the fabric at the same time following a pattern is a fabulous thing to have. Also, it was very good at adding reinforced hems and seams on the end of costumes and heavy duty high-quality fabrics on high fashion gowns. It adds extra heft to the bottom them.

Abi, thank you so much for your videos. I love watching them because you have good videos, with great visual and teaching instructions. Your videos are straightforward with no junk or drama in them, and you get right to the point; I really like that. I have 2- Brother Serger Sewing machines my first was a 1134D and the most recent, a 1034D, which is 3 yrs old; they look and work exactly the same except for a few minor details which really make no difference in any of their appearances inside or out. I actually was ready to buy a new one and just keep them both for parts, but I started watching your videos and was actually able to repair both of them to working condition. The 1034D stopped even sewing a chain, or even one stitch. I have adjusted both the upper and lower loopers, made sure the measurements for the needles, feed dogs, needle plate, differential feed and length have been adjusted /calibrated, After downloading the brother 1034D service manual. I just completed watching this video concerning adjustment on the tension discs, which I have also watched before but have never adjusted them. My stitches are actually looking good on both sides now, and the tension actually appears to be working great. The only problem right now my machine is having with my stitches is that about every 3 inches it skips between 2 to 3 stitches, and my left needle thread never catches, and I mean never. I have measured the loopers the needle height and everything else that I can fine tip to measure, and I honestly do not know What else to do to fix it. If there’s any recommendations that you could give me to try that you could notify me of, I would thoroughly appreciate it. Thank you so much, I appreciate you sharing your videos.

I have tried to research more information about the different types of needles “required” by the Janome line, but to no avail! Thank you Abi!! I have a Janome overlocker and it is not always easy to find the HA 1SP needles and I don't always want a stretch needle so it is really useful to find that I can use the 130/705 needles if need be. I have been sewing for years but there are still things to learn! Machines can be very finicky though. My embroidery machine, a Brother V3, was causing all sorts of trouble unless I used a size 90 needle. So, whatever I do on that machine, I use a size 90 universal needle. I decided to try the size 80 but it started to play up again. Is anyone has problems with threads breaking or threads getting thinner and thinner it may not be your machine but the needle you are using. After all, the needle is a very hard working part. Use only the best. Also, an expensive machine with cheap needles is asking for trouble. Apart from the overlocker needles I use Schmetz. There are other good makes out there but I would be wary of packs with a large number of needles and an unknown brand being sent from China. False economy.
@AbisDen
@AbisDen 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your feedback. If your sewing machine V3 is struggling with anything but the 75 embroidery needle, I suggest contact Brother. That really shouldn’t happen. I had a V5 for a while and I know the Brother machines can be finicky. 90 is much too thick for embroidery 🪡 let them know. They should repair the issue for you :-) good luck 🤞🏼

Dear Abi, thank you for your very useful sewing and informative videos, however I have a request. Could you please take more care with setting the audio level on your KZbin video clips. I view your videos on an Apple iMac desktop, which has a very good speaker system. Even though I had the volume turned up to the maximum when watching this video, it was difficult to hear the audio. For a viewer, if the audio is too loud; it is an easy matter to turn the volume down, but if the audio is too low, nothing can be done; and an otherwise excellent video clip can be ruined. Thanks again.

If you take the needle plate off, you can see if you have a build up of fluff or something causing it to jam. Try giving the needle plate a clean and see if that helps. Otherwise you may need to contact Necchi to replace the needle plate if the spring is broken, I hope that helps

You have to remember, the machine isn’t what makes money for the company, it’s all the little extras that you keep going back for. The feet, needles etc. if you buy their branded peripherals, they make a steady income from that.

I have had my Janome 9300DX for 4 years and the broke a needle in the very beginning. Ever since I have been scared of my overlocker in particular needles! I tend to use (when I have the courage) my overlocker for woven fabrics to just finish off the seams. On the front of my machine it indicates HA-1SP needle # 11-14 So does this mean I can only use size 11 or 14 needles? Also if I wanted to make a T'shirt would I then change to a ball point needle? Sorry for not understanding, but this needle thing as really dented my confidence in using a overlocker 😒😒
@AbisDen
@AbisDen 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Elaine, don’t worry about what manufacturers put in in the description as far as the needles are concerned. Use the needle that’s right for your fabric, as you would in the sewing machine, but maybe size up because of the speed of the machine, x
@elaine58100
@elaine58100 2 жыл бұрын
Many thanks Abi. Your help is really appreciated. However I do have one more question. I'm never sure were I am supposed to be lining my fabric up, so I just guess and line up roughly were the needles or blade contacts the fabric. The thing that confuses me though are the lines & dots & the 5/8 on the looper cover. I understand them but why are they there? Can't line fabric with them too far away. With a sewing machine you just line up were the lines indicate to sew the correct seam allowance and you're done These overlockers are really puzzling at times 😕😕

I have to use the subtitles or transcript as I am profoundly deaf. If you click on the three dots next to the 'save' icon you can have the transcript beside the video which is useful for hearing viewers as well as those of us who can't hear at all as you can go back over bits you have missed. The ads are very annoying when they come up in the middle of a video but I do realise we can't have these wonderful videos without the income You Tube gets from the ads. I lose the thread (sorry, bad pun!) and have to rewind.

Is a 15 x 1SP the same as HA X 1SP? I think the 15x1SP is for my Coverstitch machine.
@AbisDen
@AbisDen 2 жыл бұрын
Which cover stitch machine is that? They HA is a household needle. The SP is for super stretch (ballpoint needle for stretch fabric not jersey fabric) I’m not sure where the 15 comes in. Unless Janome have decided to use that instead of EL which stands for Elna. The needles are minutely longer but I used standard household needles and saw no difference

The older (and very well made) Singer overlockers - the Japanese made Ultralock U14 series - will not accept standard 130/705 needles - you can only use the 2054 type specified by Singer, also known as 16X75 and SLX75. Standard domestic 130/705 needles are too fat to fit in the needle clamps. The last ones I bought were Schmetz and Organ make them too.
