Ironically a lot people always say don’t give to much information at a visa interview because this will lead to the visa offer asking you more questions. But I love the fact that you as a former visa officer is saying be more active in the interview. I guess the question I want to ask is, is there a scenario where giving to much information is detrimental to your interview?

I feel US visa interview process is inconsistent and based on the mood/bias of the visa officer (they are humans after all). There are times people who should have gotten the visa never did (and vice versa). That's one of the small reasons why people from 150+ countries all over the world are willing to pay cartels who literally own the southern border to get them across. Current open border policy is much more guaranteed. Without immigration reform including the whole process of getting visas, the status quo won't change.

Hi Ben, I have one question to ask, but first, I want to acknowledge the effort you put into giving us a context on what goes inside a visa officers head when doing an interview; the question is how do we determine the exact reason we were rejected besides the common information provided on the blue paper they pass you post the interview?
@ArgoSocial Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Unfortunately, that is something that is very hard to figure out. Many people think its based off of what the last question is, but that's not necessarily the case. What it really comes down to is if the Visa Officer thinks you qualify for the visa and will use it appropriately. That's where Argo comes in. Since we have made thousands of decisions on visa applicants, we can give you the best assessment on what caused your refusal. IT really is a personal case-by-case situation that's really difficult to determine on your own.
@brooktown432 жыл бұрын
well yea a successful person has no problem providing as much information as possible. In your scenario the person's father owns their own business and several rental properties - that's easy & confident to explain. What if your mother is the person selling eggs on the street in your other example? That will make a visa officer think very differently of you vs the other example, so people would not want to explain as much what their mother does.

Officer interrupted me immediately, asked “what did you do in Iran?” almost with fear in his voice. I said frankly that it was a business trip and I represented a company I work for in a deal of selling one of my boss’s businesses (I am a lawyer specialising in International law). After that we got a refusal for 214 (b) reason. I am applying again as this Master program is really important to me and something what I have been preparing myself for a very long time. Actually regardless of the effort put into presenting all relevant information, the consul may still disregard it and deem it as unnecessary blabbering. On the other hand, some individuals may opt for a concise answer, only to find that it falls short of the consul's expectations and most of the time you still get denied even though you have strong family, social and economical ties to home country. Navigating this process is challenging, as there is no clear formula for success, and the best approach remains unclear… Getting approved is just like winning a lottery. Its all the matter of LUCK!
