The Atheist Experience 21.24 for June 18, 2017 with Matt Dillahunty and Tracie Harris.
Call the show on Sundays 4:00-6:00pm CDT: 1-512-686-0279
We welcome your comments on the open blog thread for this show.
► freethoughtblog...
KZbin comments are at present disabled in our channel, to the displeasure of some. However, each video has a prominent link to the associated open thread that appears on our blog. In the past we've tried opening up the channel to comments, but we found that a very high number of episodes wound up being flooded with a combination of spam, long winded apologists, and various obscene or misogynistic comments directed at various hosts by people with an axe to grind. This seems to be the nature of KZbin comment sections, in our experience.
We do moderate the blog, the same way that we moderate chat during the show, as well as comments on our Facebook group. For comment sections that are "officially" associated with our show (and, to a much lesser extent, channels that may give the unintended appearance of being official), we prefer not to play host to straight up ad hominem attacks and bigotry. As a general policy we do not block commenters simply on the basis of disagreement with our point of view. However, we do prefer discussion environments that don't actively chase off more reasonable contributors.

WHAT IS THE ATHEIST EXPERIENCE?
The Atheist Experience is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared at a non-atheist audience. The Atheist Experience is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop and support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing and friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of state-church separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists and to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

A sane man and a madman (naked except for his underpants on his head and a pencil up each nostril) meet on the road. Madman: "Are you sane?" Sane man: "I believe so." Madman: "Are you certain?" Sane man: "No, no man can be completely certain of his own sanity." Madman: "I am. I'm absolutely, 100%, rock-solid certain that I'm sane." Sane man: "Really, how can you be so sure?" Madman: "Because the voices in my head told me so." Sane man: "You have voices in your head? How can you trust them?" Madman: "Because the voices in my head tell me I can!" Sane man: "I fear that you may be insane." Madman: "I'm insane?! Who are you to judge? You already admitted you could be mad!!" Andrew Parker Just gna say this about the game show who wants to be a millionaire, I don’t actually remember the contestants name or anything but he went on to the final question without using any of his life lines, and when he reached the final question he used all his life lines and in the popular vote it gave an answer of 80 smthing percent, and his last life line he used the call to phone his dad to inform him he won the million dollars and his answer was opposed to the audiences vote... perfect example to show how listening to the populous would have lost him the million dollars
@PPA625
@PPA625 5 жыл бұрын
@@tarekhaddadin3224 - I didn't watch the show much... maybe 20-30 contestants total (mostly online), but I did remember seeing the audience get a couple wrong, so I looked it up out of curiosity. • The first 5 questions were gimme's that no one hardly ever got wrong and usually included 3 silly answers and 1 correct answer. • The next 5 questions were relatively easy still. • The last 5 questions were very hard and obscurely trivial in nature, far more difficult than the first 10. The audience was near-perfect at answering the first 10 questions. However, when they got to the final 5 questions, the audience almost never got it correct and the contestant would be far better off just picking a random answer (25% chance) than following the audience for the last 5 questions.

Caller Billy, your process seems to be, at the root 1. Make a conclusion 2. Try to prove it 3. If your proof starts failing, assert that the conclusion proves the premises For example: B: the crowd is usually right TAE: Ad populum is a fallacy . B: yes, it is, but since the populace is generally right, they are probably right on each thing You did the same with the appearance of design

Even from the beginning the caller has no intention of engaging in an honest debate. One has to wonder why these people think they can debate the existence of God. They call up and do not have any kind of reasonable argument planned. They must be so delusional to think they are are superior debaters.

This is the fourth time I’ve been presented with ads for learning Hebrew by studying the Bible while watching Dillihunty videos. If we could shortcut arguments about translation and semantics that would be super useful. But the ads seem to be advocating understanding of the Bible for the sake of deeper religious experience. This ad on this video is shockingly ironic.

Notice how slimey and dishonest he is by very carefully using the word "acknowledge" instead of "believe in". He even catches himself and redirects back to "acknowledge" at one point, because he knows he's using the fallacy and is attempting to disguise it. What a tool.

I love how the caller screws up logical inversion. The inversion of "if something is designed, it should appear designed" isn't "if something appears designed, of should be designed", it's "if something doesn't appear designed, it shouldn't be designed".
