One of my tips for kids that are really nervous especially ones who have never been painted before I will do a quick paint on their arm not a fancy design just like a rainbow. Once they see it and feel it they tend to relax a little more and usually will go more smoothly after that.

You are so positive, warm and beautiful. The way you approach kids is exactly how it’s supposed to be done but unfortunately there are too many people working with kids who don’t have your sensibility, understanding and empathy, and they lack In knowledge. You’re amazing and I found this video very helpful! Keep doing what you’re doing, it has a great impact! ❤

I just finished a whirlwind of a birthday party this weekend and I was thinking about this very thing. It's so important -- half the job is interacting with and working with the kids and their parents. I love the tip about giving a sensory kid a sponge to squeeze. It makes me want to get a little sensory bag with 3 or 4 options of something to hold on to in those situations. A sponge is great one though! When I get wiggly kids who can't stop looking around or moving their bodies it stresses me out because I'm a new painter and I'm self conscious about my work as it is. Wiggly kids get wiggly looking paintings. I'm realizing that I can start to recognize which kids I'll have to cut corners on and which ones I can spend a little more time on ;)

It's very normal to be nervous at first but over time you will find your nerves fade and it all becomes second nature.

Excellent tips! I especially liked the tip of showing the child you, yourself, doing squinty eyes vs soft eyes, and the tip of saying "let's get our wiggles out".

I’m a new face painter (literally working my first event tonight!!!!), and these tips are soo helpful. Wouldn’t have even thought of a few of these, so glad I stumbled across this video 🙏🏼☺️ I would love more videos like this! I don’t have children so sometimes I feel like I got awkward and quiet when I was doing glitter tattoos and I don’t want that to happen with painting 😇

Great video Ariel! Thank you very much! I always talk to the kids explaining to them what I'm doing next and I love doing that! I also do the squinty eyes trick 🤣 ❤

100x thanks! I have kids backing away, almost turning their face away from me as I'm painting. I cant help but think maybe it's because since the pandemic many young kids arent used to strangers being so close. (I always make sure I have clean breath, so i dont think it's that, lol)
@Arielpaints Жыл бұрын
hahaha. I think it's just instinct. Kids aren't used to sitting in a chair and being still. I'm sure your breathe is amazing. 🤩

I started painting recently and im touched by what you said at the end of the video. My son has autism and its really uncomfortable for him. So when I paint his sister's face and I know he wants something too but its so hard for him I then paint is forearm. He is so happy to be able to participate. And it was so hard for him to try to wash paint on his face but he doesnt mind to wash his arm. Thank you for all your videos! You helped me get started!

I love the tips here. Amateur face painter. Usually something like a church picnic or along those lines. . Was using acrylic paints until recently. Didn't know it was bad for them. So now trying to invest in real face paints.

SO many people start with acrylic until they learn there is real paint. Glad you are investing in the good stuff! Thanks for watching.

Hi, Your videos especially the live event one was very helpful for me as a beginner. I have a few question, I hope if you could answer me some time. 1. Do you use different sponges for different colours and different faces? I tried to reuse the sponge but it was messy. 2. While using brush I believe you wash the brushes in between while working with different colours. 3. What if a child wants to use my tool to paint herself or paint me? I had this situation where a child considers herself to be an artist and wants to paint me. I allowed her to use my tools to paint her mum because I didn't want a budding artist to be discouraged but my palette was a mess after that event. How do you suggest I handle that situation? Thanks for your hand numbering tip, it would really help.
@Arielpaints Жыл бұрын
1.I will reuse some sponges but if they are getting muddy or too filled with paint I'll get a new one. I also get new sponges anyway when going over kids eyes and mount. 2. I do rinse my brushed in water in-between painting. 3. I love it when kids want to paint with me and are curious. So I'd love that but there are some painters who would just die if a child even touched their kit so it's totally up to you. Hope that helps!

What can I do as I'm setting up or during the event that kids are touching everything and not staying in line and are at my back or elbow trying to see? Also, there's been times where there's no line since the kids are playing and then get mad when a 'kid cuts' because they thought they were next?
@Arielpaints Жыл бұрын
I could make videos on those topics for sure. If kids are being bad or not listening I go into teacher mode quickly. I'm polite but stern and I will stop painting if they are being bad. I think I have a video on here somewhere of how I number kids hands so they don't wait in line...that way they can still play and its very clear who is next.
@lrt5336 Жыл бұрын
First I ask them nicely not to touch my things. And then again if it seems like they tried but forgot. I make sure to make eye contact. I don’t just say it to everyone, I say it to the child touching my things. I will call it a rule sometimes. “It’s a rule that you can’t be face painted if you’re touching my tools.” And i encourage them that I want to face paint them, but they have to follow the rules. If they continue to be a problem and it’s more than I can deal with, I tell them to bring their mommy or daddy over so they can be painted. (Assuming they’re young enough that parents are there. Usually they are at events I’m at.) And if they go right away and get their mom or dad, they keep their spot in line. I just let their parent know they needed some help keeping their hands to themselves because it’s really hard not to touch the paints and brushes. But that if they can follow the rules, I’ll be able to paint them as soon as it’s their turn. By the time they’re close enough to touch your things, that should be quite soon. But, I try to be kind and also have boundaries.

I hate when parents FORCE kids to get painted. They clearly are uncomfortable. Don’t force it. It’s supposed to be FUN!
@flash_flood_area2 жыл бұрын
If they keep whipping their head around or talking, especially towards the end, I also say, "Ok, now I have black paint on my brush! So I'll need you to hold extra still, or I might make a bad mistake. And then we'd have a big black line in the wrong place, and that will be hard to fix". Or, I might say, "The more you're able to hold still, the quicker I can be, and then you'll be all done!"
