*Haha typo, I meant Heat Gun, not Hun ;)
***You can fill this mold less than what the size requires and get really nice results. It is quite big and you can play with different levels of resin.
***Safety is another topic I will be talking about soon in a video, but until then, I recommend everyone to wear a respirator, nitrile gloves, an apron or lab coat, and use resin in a separate room from the living areas and well ventilated so that your family members and pets don't breathe the paints and resin while it's curing.

Haha that is so funny! I was thinking to integrate lights in my resin. I bought 2 strings of lights to try, but I haven't decided which mold to use for those. Besides the lights I ordered haven't been delivered yet.... I am pretty positive though that adding light at the back would lose the image in front.... but it could totally look like 2 eyes of an animal glowing in the dark LOL

Thank you very much If you don't mind, would you tell me what the next step after dropping the colors to have that long wavy ( or star) effect?
@ArijanaLukic
@ArijanaLukic 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Mohammed, The wavy look is just a natural chemistry between the resin and the ink following the edge of the mold. Once you start playing with this medium, you start seeing the repetitive patterns and what you can control and what not. The oval shape of the mold is also the key to have these lines following the edge. I hope this answers your question... If you have instagram, I just posted a half home piece I made. So it's not oval but a hald sphere and you can see even more how the inks follow the side. It's not quite beautiful as this eye I made, but I was actually trying to make a different effect all together, and I will but I need more experimentation. instagram.com/arijanalukic_art_and_design/ (Check the 2 last photos)

@ArijanaLukic
@ArijanaLukic 6 жыл бұрын
Hmmm this is a good question. I think you could do something like this but if your second mold in a shape of a cylinder is added on top, it really has to be heavy to not move with resin around. This is just what my head is processing, but by all mean, try it out and experiment if you have the desire :) It's fun to play and you never know when you can create something new :)

Arijana Lukic yes it is cool, but when you flip it, the center of the eye is empty, there must be ink in the middle. But there is no ink. And the shape is like pupil. How could it be possible i dont understand that.
@ArijanaLukic
@ArijanaLukic 5 жыл бұрын
It's chemistry!!! Mixed with the type of shape of my silicon mold! It's all chemical reactions that act in a certain way in certain conditions. One of those conditions, is how to the ink takes shape inside the resin following the walls of the silicone mold. I hope it makes sense. If you would play with this medium, you would understand better how 1 small thing can impact the look of your work. :)

Okay so this is the design ive been wanting to create. Like a burst of rays going outward from the center. Is there a technique to do this?
@ArijanaLukic
@ArijanaLukic 5 жыл бұрын
YES! The absolute key for this is the MOLD. I linked the mold in the description so you can find it. It's very important that the mold you use, has an OVAL shape, NOT sphere or a half sphere. So best is to buy the one I recommend, unless you find something in a similar shape elsewhere. The dynamic of the inks and resin is to follow the shape of the mold hence the look of the burst. Good luck! PS: If you use the mold I recommend, work fast. Bigger quantity of resin makes resin heat up faster. :)

it's gorgeous ..you mentioned framing it in a shadow box. I have a question, what will stick directly to the resin so it can be mounted in a frame ?
@ArijanaLukic
@ArijanaLukic 6 жыл бұрын
purple9870 that’s a really good question!!! As the frame I got has no space between the glass and the backing for the thickness of this eye, I think to try to glue it on the glass itself using crazy glue or gorilla glue. I am reading about it to see if this would stick well ... but I can’t find anything so precise on the Internet about Epoxy on Glass. My thinking is going toward Etching the glass first and then applying the glue after so it has no chance of peeling after a while. It just makes in my head for now.

Hi, at the 2min. 43 seconds you apply a chemical from a squeeze bottle. Can you please tell me what it is? is it resifast or similar. Finally, how much resin did you put into the pot at the start of the video. thanks so much! regards paul C
@ArijanaLukic
@ArijanaLukic 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, The white squeeze bottle is a White Alcohol Ink by Jacquard Piñata. The links to all the supplies are in the description of the video. The white is essential because of it's density to help the other colours react and be pushed deeper into the resin. From experimentation, no one has found another white that works as good as the Piñata version. Any other alcohol ink colour can be from any brand otherwise. For this eye, I used 600ml (20.29oz) of resin and hardener combined. The mold can hold a lot more, but I thought that this size is enough.

How u get dat black CLR in the middle...did u done smthng or it came automatically??
@ArijanaLukic
@ArijanaLukic 4 жыл бұрын
So the middle is just a hole which looks dark because there is nothing there. It's the shape of the mold that influences how the ink flows because naturally it will be pulled toward the sides. During the curing process, the ink will be pulled in a certain way. Basically it works like in nature. This is why I like playing with this medium. Every little thing impacts another think and it's a beautiful harmony. The mold shape, the temperature of the room, the thickness of the resin, the density of the inks.... etc :)

how did you know the center of the eye would be dark?

How did you get the centre of the iris? How did you get it to be hollow?
@ArijanaLukic
@ArijanaLukic 2 жыл бұрын
How resin works is all according the mold. If you notice its behaviour, the resin dries faster on the edges, so there is a pull of the inks that happen. Because this mold is an oval with the thickest part in the centre, the ink is pulled to the sides which leaves a dark hollow part. :) Pretty cool hey!

So the link IS WORKING. You just have to click on the words in blue saying Available from "these sellers" and it will lead you to the next page where you can purchase it new from the 1st seller. I hope it works :) (This is I assume for the USA Amazon, otherwise the Canadian link works just fine too)

Mine never come out right..Does the weather have anything to do with it not coming out?
@ArijanaLukic
@ArijanaLukic 5 жыл бұрын
YES the weather has a lot to do with it! Pour resin alone in a plastic bottle and submerge it in the hot water for 30min. Then mix it with the hardener and go through the same process. It helps A LOT. I do that in cold months.

Great work 👏 How did you manage to make the pupil? Because the way you drop the ink seems so random, I'm baffled :)
@ArijanaLukic
@ArijanaLukic 4 жыл бұрын
So the shape of the silicone mold plays a big part for that. Resin has the tendency to harden faster on the edges and the inks get pulled also toward the edges rather than in the middle. You can notice a tendency with different kind of molds as they are curved differently. :)

I replied to you on the other comment, sorry. :) but to add about this mold in particular...it is curved so the heat ''stays in'' naturally due to it's shape. I don't recommend using a torch on this one but a heat gun and also not for very long. Otherwise it can heat the resin too much and it cure in matter of minutes. And with the torch, I think it could burn the inside edges.... :)

Omg so very pretty I have a question is the mould you are using is it glossy inside or matte so when you took it out of the mould was it glossy on the bottom of the resin piece it looks glossy on the video? Thanks so much for the Canadian links for the supplies you used that is very thoughtful. A definite thumbs up in my book and I subscribed to.
@ArijanaLukic
@ArijanaLukic 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much!!! Yes this particular mold was glossy on the inside. I'd say 90% of my molds are glossy, and 10% matte (when I can't find glossy ones, but then it requires extra work to coats it with resin again...)
@sparkle5ms
@sparkle5ms 6 жыл бұрын
You can change the matte ones to glossy just by coating it with resin? Have a wonderful day.

Oh YES that's how I do it :) Resin is cool like that....If it scratches, you sand it, clean it and pour another coat of resin and it's fresh as new! Same goes for 2nd coats to make it see-through!
