Beautiful ♥️♥️♥️Wow! 1. If i want to use a large canvas to hang on wall do I measure the usage of Inks and resin or just mix all randomly? 2. What was the heat gun for, are you heating up the resin for the Inks to dissolve? I’m new so I want to learn Ty so much ♥️ Oh wow the clear liquid dries in the mold. So for how long? My apologies I thought this was a pour onto a canvas! I love this technique How do you know what size frame? By the size of the mold used?

How do you get the outside feathering... so gorgeous!... the middle looks blown with a straw, but what about the edges? Is Tim Holtz alch inks okay to use.? And can I use a heat gun to remove bubbles from resin import beginning?... how long to dry completely?.. 72 hours? Pamela
@ArijanaLukic4 жыл бұрын
Resin dries over 24h to touch but up to 72h to dry fully for most brands. The resin doesn't dry equally at the same time hence you can see the pulling of the ink toward the edges. It's a matter of chemistry, density and heat. Even if I didn't use a straw too much, the result could have been quite similar. I always use a heat gun for bubbles, but you can use a propane torch as well. My heat gun is my essential tool to remove bubbles from resin. I recommend to use White by Pinata Jacquard (Essential) and the rest of the colours, you can pick Tim Holtz, Pinata or even Copic Ink. :)

THANK YOU, Ariana... for responding... my friends and I will be trying this next week... hope they look like yours!...we will be wearing respirator masks,working under the deck outside and leaving to dry in basement for a few days...do you think we could reuse the silicone pans for brownies or lasagna?... any additional advice for the blooms or movement other than blowing they the straw?... pls keep up the great work...Pamela
@ArijanaLukic4 жыл бұрын
Additional tips: Test the same resin under different room temperatures. Also, you can play and drop the inks at different ''times'' into the resin. Like after 5min, 10min, 15min, 20min etc... and see how the ink behaves in the resin that is at different consistencies. If you have a chance, try different resins as well. You may get different results. If you don't want to use a straw, you can use an Air Gun. :) I would not reuse the silicone molds for anything else than art. Using it for resin, it compromises the silicone use after use. And I wouldn't risk cross contamination either. I also wear a full face mask now, it's much more bearable to play with this medium. Enjoy and have fun!

Apologies if you’ve answered this already - I did look for but did not find the question in the comments. Can you tell me if these pieces are heat resistant enough to have them serve as trivets or hotplates? Thank you - your work is just beautiful.
@ArijanaLukic6 жыл бұрын
Hi! That will depend on the resin you use!!! Also if you choose to make this with a different resin that goes on counter tops (which is a little more heat resistant) then your pattern will also change when you make your artwork. If you are in USA, I suggest to look into these resins: amzn.to/2AHDpSq and www.stonecoatcountertops.com/ Verify with them the heat resistance, but I think it's 500F...

First time watching. I saw that you don't recommend these being exposed to sunlight. I'd like to know your suggestions for what to do with a piece like this?
@ArijanaLukic6 жыл бұрын
Hi! Unfortunately the alcohol inks aren't lightfast, means they will fade over time. Best is to keep the artwork away from direct sunlight (as any other art medium should as well because all colours will fade over time just in different timeframes and the sun can speed up the fading process). It is possible to buy a white frame that is 11''X14'' and frame this piece in it. I prefer my art framed and hanging on the walls. It's just more appealing to me than being used in other ways. :)
@berniceseigel64823 жыл бұрын
Beautiful, question how did the ink move into the middle. Did you blow it or what?
@ArijanaLukic3 жыл бұрын
Thank you :) So resin pulls by itself due to the drying process. So when you look from the back the ink is always pulled into the middle. I hope that answers your question.

Stunning!!! For this size mold, 13 x 9 at 5 mm thick, how much art resin did you mix and measure out? Thanks so much!!
@ArijanaLukic5 жыл бұрын
I do not remember on the top of my head because it's been a while, but I always pour water in my mold to the level I would like my resin piece to be and then pour it in a measuring cup. Then I take the amount of water and I know that 50% of it is hardener and 50% resin. Also, I clean all my molds before I make something, so it doesn't take much time to measure the amount of water at the same time.

Looks great, do you know how this would turn out if you did this in a much more narrow but deeper mold? Like a pill bottle type casting.
@ArijanaLukic6 жыл бұрын
Hi Cody, I will be making cubes soon that are much deeper than this mold. Then I'll have a better idea. For sure it is sometimes a challenge to have the ink sink deeper, but I think it's possible using the right conditions. Experimentation is key as well and type of resin used.
@CodyKoNA6 жыл бұрын
Arijana Lukic yea. Im going to be using alumilite clear slow. Im making a handle for a shaving brush so the mold is going to be a pill bottle but i wonder if I should pour a little resin then do the dye and pour a little more and keep layering or just pour all the resin and hope it sinks. Thanks for your reply
@ArijanaLukic6 жыл бұрын
It is up to you to experiment in Layers, but if you add more resin after the first layer and it's in the liquid state, it will move your inks around and make a completely different effect (from my experience). One way to push the inks down is to push them with a toothpick, but honestly it's all a matter of experimentation to find what works for you. I haven't settled on a preferred answer for this part yet. :)
@susanblubaugh84605 жыл бұрын
This is a lovely piece and would be wonderful framed without a mat or backing. I can see that some people might want to use something like this as a suncatcher, to hang in a window. My experience with alcohol inks is that they will fade in direct sunlight-even when the resin or varnish over the inks is UVA resistant. Can you add any comment about that/ what has been your experience with inks fading.
@ArijanaLukic5 жыл бұрын
Susan Blubaugh I personally never tried to make sun catchers but I did leave a bunch of petris close to sunlight in a sunny room in my house. One did change colours. It’s still beautiful because the burgundy/egg plant turned green and a shade of greed I usually don’t obtain with the inks I have. And I don’t mind it as it is. The pattern is maintained and all.. So some colours change over time, but I haven’t seen anything fade as turn very pale. It’s something to see after a longer period of time. Mine are in the sunny room for about 6 months. I do expect them to have some change in the future... just don’t know how much. :)
@jennavanallen78665 жыл бұрын
Hi! So I tried doing the technique on a smaller scale. I used a silicone brownie pan. But when I pulled the squares out the side that was against the silicone was matte. Not glossy like yours. What did I do wrong?
@ArijanaLukic5 жыл бұрын
Hi Jenna, you need a silicon mold with the shining finish. If the mold is matte, the resin will be too. You can always cover those pieces with a new coat of clear resin if you would like to save them. But it's up to you to judge if it's worth it :)

Wow! Turned out so pretty! Wondering, does adding the white between colors help to keep colors (like purple and yellow or orange together) from blending too much and becoming muddy?
@ArijanaLukic6 жыл бұрын
Hmmm I usually know which colours do become muddy when mixed together. The white surely does help. The key is to really know your colours and what you mix together. You can buy a colour chart as a reference or just experiment and keep an eye on the results and note which ones turn out ok and which ones don't :) Experimentation and fun is key. I mostly play!

It went from circles to pulled to the sides like a starburst. Did you move the ink? How did it spread please?
@ArijanaLukic5 жыл бұрын
Hi Edie, So when the resin is hardening, it has a tendency to dry first in the middle then on the edges. This can cause to pull the inks in such a way that you see on the back. This petri dish technique is all about chemistry. :) It's fun!
@LadyEdHD8055 жыл бұрын

Your work dosnt have white spots. How did you manage to avoid them? Did you wait the resin to thicken and then addef the colors?
@ArijanaLukic4 жыл бұрын
It depends on the consistency of your resin. If it's thicker, then you don't have the spots. You have to let the resin rest a little in the mold before you drop the inks in them. The exact time can be different from project to project because the temperature in the room matters.You have to explore different types of resin as well. You can join Petri Supernova Group on FB and see what people use for resin :)

What I do is I fill the mold with water to where I want it to be (anywhere from 5-10mm high) and then put that water into a measuring cup to see what I get. I made thicker pieces and thinner as well. I haven't framed this one yet. I will produce a lot more art in the next weeks before I start trying out frames, because that's another job by itself, but it will come! Thank you for watching! :)

Really beautiful! I've been playing with big petris, but yours is way cooler. Question for you---how do you know what colors you can layer? Is there any rhyme or reason to what works and what makes mud?

Thank yo so much Erin! And you have a good question! I think that there is definitely one thing to consider when mixing colours: Some colours overlapping like Blue and Orange will make Brown. It's ok to have brown, but if the you move the resin on top of that like make swirls or waves etc, you may make more brown instead of getting some brown spots, some orange spots and some blue spots. I guess you can buy a colour wheel/chart or google it and see which combinations of colour you want versus which ones to avoid. One more thing, I don't recommend adding way too much colour either. It did not happen to me but it can create mud because there is too much ink on the surface. It's good to know when to stop. It never happened to me, but I have seen it happen to others. And one last thing I can think of is if you use a deep mold and you pour more than 1.5-2 Inches of resin deep, it can start fuming and curing really fast. Last time it cured I tried it cured so fast that any white ink I dropped in the resin was burnt and came out brown. :D The rest is experimentation and having fun! :) Failures always teach us something and bring us to the path of something more wonderful!

Could I use acrylic paints mixed with resin? Also what do to frame them. Gorgeous 🤓

Dana Cease the acrylic paints would not give you this effect. You need alcohol inks and that is the only thing that would work. You can use acrylic paints but that would be for resin pours on panels like you can see in my other resin videos :) I do frame the artwork. Usually in white frames. This one fits in 11” x 14” shadow frame. :)

Did you blow on, stir or swirl etc any other time other than the one in the video? I have never done this and was curious if only putting the dots in, when it dried it made that finish design that looked like it was being pulled toward the center. It is absolutely STUNNING !

:) NO I didn't do anything to it other than what the video shows :) It is common for resin to pull the inks because of density!! It creates amazing patterns! I did blow on one of my projects only, but it's not necessary at all. You still get this effect anyway! Plus, it isn't safe to inhale resin...so one more reason not to do it..

Thanks so much for the info and the fast response. Yours was the first video I've watched of doing this and it blows my mind! So beautiful ! I can't get over how layered / 3D it looks from the back ( or the front ... not sure which you call which. The side you had to flip over to see lol ). I could sit and stare at that all day !
