I am with you. These guys and girl have the most unique and best sound I have ever heard. Not since the deadboys and violent femmes in the 70s have I heard anything this unique. SSPU is so much better than everybody else. SSPU are truly masters of their craft.

Favorite band of ALL time... I can't believe how amazing these guys and gal are! When they come to San Diego again I can't wait to hear how neck of the woods will sound in concert. I'm obsessed and they are all I listen to. They nailed it when I think what music should sound like. I love how they just go at with so much emotion and the drummer just goes crazy. Unique and amazing.

It's called open-handed playing. Also sometimes referred to as left-handed playing or left-hand leading. Many drummers do it. Cater Beauford from the Dave Matthews Band will play open-handed sometimes. Wikipedia has a good article on this.

Yeah, I know bands often change the tempo at which they play songs. But in this video (and, frankly, a couple other SSPU videos) it seems like they played the song at the normal album tempo and then, afterwards, the recording was sped up.
