Lance, I was laughing the whole time you were dragging that rock to your truck. Without a doubt, procuring big rocks is a dominate family gene seen at play here ... and the rock doesn't roll too far from the outcrop! I'm glad you had a great time! Thanks for taking us along.
@adventuresofshadowdogАй бұрын
It’s always so good to hear from you! Yes, I seemed to inherit the family gene. I was out enjoying that beautiful chunk of petrified wood earlier today while sitting on my porch where it is proudly displayed. I earned that one! 😂

What a wonder video that was. Just loved the rock house, Navajo stories, abundant PW into sensory overload. What a haul you collected! And i can't believe you carried that big one. What a souvenir. Stay happy and full of wonder, Lance. What a beautiful life!

I took my wife and son to the same BLM area this last weekend. We found tons of smaller wood and a Rose Quartz rock. But to top it off was when my wife found a small petrified sea shell! Unbelievable ! Great place to rock hound!!

A petrified sea shell! Wow! That is really cool. Thank you for sharing that and thanks for watching and for leaving a comment. 🐶😎

It really is amazing! I just couldn’t believe all the petrified wood in the area. And the Petrified Forest is awesome, but they won’t let you film inside it and post to KZbin because it’s considered “commercial.” So I didn’t.

Very interesting trip you’re on. The petrified wood is remarkable! Such large pieces. I didn’t know there was that much petrified wood down in that area!

Honestly I didn’t know either. I’ve read about the area and heard about The Petrified Forest, but seeing the real thing is mind blowing!

Excellent Lance, You should have gone to the Dobell Ranch which borders the Petrified Forest. That is where Ive gone to to buy some beautiful chunks, very affordable. You were probably 5 min. from it when you were at the place where you could buy those very large trunks of petrified trees. I was just there. Love your videos Lance. Cannot wait to see the next one. Be safe friend.

You and Shadow living your best lives Lance 😊. There is an island off the south coast of England called the Isle of Wight (also known as the Dinosaur Isle because of the high number of dinosaur fossils found). You can see a fossilised forest exposed at low tide at a location called Brook Bay. In the amongst the fossil tree trunks are clearly visible dinosaur tracks in the rock, criss-crossing each other. Like your location, this area was a forest with rivers running through it in the early Cretaceous period. Also to be found on the foreshore are huge dinosaur footprint casts, about 3 feet in diameter. Even you would struggle to get one of these off the beach 😂. The area is a fabulous day out.
@adventuresofshadowdogАй бұрын
Hello John! I would so love to visit and see what you described on the Isle of Wight. How fascinating! I have heard of The Isle of Wight, but for different reasons. When I was younger I worked for a man who was a big gambler and would travel there to gamble. Not my cup of tea, but the dinosaur fossils and petrified wood certainly are! Thank you so much for watching and commenting. Doug from AstroAF and I met up and collaborated on a video. Keep at eye out for new video releases coming soon from both our channels as there is a surprise in there for you! Cheers!
@thecampingastronomer8554Ай бұрын
@adventuresofshadowdog oh wow, I look forward to the videos from you and Doug. I wonder if the Isle of Wight used to have a few casinos in days gone by.
@adventuresofshadowdogАй бұрын
John, Maybe I'm confusing the Isle of Wight with The Isle of Man?
@thecampingastronomer8554Ай бұрын
@adventuresofshadowdog It could be the Isle of Man you are thinking of. I think that it has its own tax rules, which might have made it popular for gambling, casinos etc.
@adventuresofshadowdogАй бұрын
Yes, you are correct. I confused the two. I hope you are able to watch my latest video. Pay attention in particular to the fireside conversation towards the end. 👂

I have an idea for you to carry big rocks that will be easier. It's a "frame" meat pack. It has a fold down platform. I'm an elk hunter,,,we use this all the time to carry large loads of meat a couple miles out. You can buy with just a frame or frame with a backpack attached. We carry loads from 60 to 80 pounds on this. What's nice is that the frame is made of aluminum, very light...it has a waist & shoulder harnesses for easy lifting. So nice & easy on your back. Wish I could send you a picture. 😉,,,anyways, I hope this helps.
@adventuresofshadowdogАй бұрын
That does help!!!!! I will look into getting one of those. Thank you so much for that tip! And as always it good to hear from you. 😎🐶

What is the daily limit? How many pounds?
@adventuresofshadowdog16 күн бұрын
If you Google: “BLM rockhounding daily limit” you’ll find the answer. It’s kinda ambiguous so I leave it to each to interpret it. I hope this helps!
@JSnowPhotoАй бұрын
2.5 million? I think you may mean 225 million years. The Chinle formation is Triassic in age.
@adventuresofshadowdogАй бұрын
You are 100% correct! I am glad you caught that error as you are the first to point it out. The moment I saw it I knew you were right. I talk as I walk and I pull the content from memory and in this case I said it wrong. Thank You for taking the time to leave this comment. I really appreciate it! 🙏
@ronwade5646Ай бұрын
No no no no no! That's a crime in Arizona if you get caught. 😅
@adventuresofshadowdogАй бұрын
Hey Ron! It is a crime to rockhounding within the National Park for sure. Where we were it is allowed. As you can see from the last place we were at with the enormous trunks, there are businesses that actually sell it. They gather it from private land. So the issue of legality is tied to location. I’m glad you left this comment because many places are illegal and everybody should do their research before taking any. Thanks so much for watching and commenting! 😎
