Arizona SR-51 - Piestewa Freeway - Phoenix Arizona - March, 2020

Drivelapse video of the entire length of the Piestewa Freeway starting from Loop 303 in the northwestern portion of the Phoenix Metro area, and then heading southerly along Interstate 17 (The Black Canyon Freeway) To Loop 101 before heading southerly through Central Phoenix along SR-51. The video then follows Interstate 10 easterly (southerly) through to Broadway Curve and then to just south of the Loop 202 Interchange in the south of Phoenix.

Thanks for making this video. I used to love driving this freeway when I lived in the Phoenix area. Friends/family in Scottsdale and I lived in the Tempe area. Cruising down South at dusk, between the mountains, some of my favorite memories.

I'm happy to see a new video from Phoenix, since there has been almost no videos from there these past 2 years. Did you know that Arizona is currently the only state along with New Mexico to not have any auxilary interstates? For example in Phoenix, Loop 101 could be renamed I-110, Loop 202 could be renamed I-610 & Loop 303 could be renamed I-217. Some strong winds hitted my aera. The speed of the winds were about 60-80 km/h. We even lost the power for a bit more than 24h. (At least it wasn't today, as I couldn't talk about it rn 😂). Even known it already was bad enough, it was definitely much worse in the other parts of Quebec. Several regions have been on flood alert (I don't remember how many exactly), for example, the region of Charlevoix particularly caught my attention. IDK if you saw the images, but it's quite scary, it reminds me a lot of something pretty similar in Saguenay in 1996. 2 volunteer firefighters also lost their lives bc of this unfortunately while trying to evacuate people from their home. Their names are Chris & Régis Lavoie, they were 24 & 55 years old respectively. It was also said that the yongest one didn't know how to swim, which has possibily caused his death. Ofc, all my thoughts go out to the family of the firefighters who had died. Vey sad what happenned 😔. Hopefully they'll see this comment if they discover this video. Oh, & also, Happy Cinco De Mayo 🌮🌮

Thanks for the comment. I have seen some photos of some of the flooding in Quebec. It's pretty crazy to say the least.

Fantastic footage as always, the design of those signage gantries and distance signs in the middle of the freeway are very distinctively Arizona!

Great video Asphalt Planet. I didn't even know you still had footage from 2020, I'm pretty sure there is much more development in that rural desert area at the beginning of the video now. Loved the soundtrack too! Did you know that Arizona switched back to Highway Gothic as their main font for highway signs, and not Clearview anymore. Though, they aren't replacing the clearview signs until they get old. I found that out recently, which I was surprised, seeing how Clearview seems to be very common in the Phoenix Area now. The Route 202 extension which opened in 2019 used the highway gothic font on their signs. Personally, I prefer Highway Gothic over Clearview.

Thanks much for the comment. I drove Loop 303 again in 2022 and there is a little bit more development along the corridor it actually hasn't changed too much. I was aware that AzDot had abandoned clearview for Highway Gothic once again. Like you, I prefer Highway Gothic font as well over clearview. AzDot's implementation of clearview was always kind of odd as well. They still used Gothic for all of the numbers even on clearview signage.
