This was very helpful! I chose Roland to do my first play through “ after purchasing a second core set “ because of, as you stated, all of his skills being covered by boosts. Although, this hasn’t proven to be advantageous because I rarely have the resources to power them up enough. I can get through “ The Gathering” by defeating the Ghoul Priest easy enough but “The Midnight Masks” is giving me real problems. As I see it, you have at best 14 turns to obtain all Unique Cultists which means you must obtain at least one if not two clues per turn. I have tried with three different deck builds and the best result was three Cultists in the display. I think I may need to change my build philosophy in that, not all cards need to be useful. Instead of trying to boost Rolands deficits, play to his strength “combat”. Maybe use three hand guns with two reloads and include lots of expendable cards that will only be used to commit to combat tests. Try to get as many clues as possible by defeating enemies. Sound feasible?

Thanks for the comment! Roland is a fantastic choice for a first investigator as he can fight and gather clues equally well. Feel free to stick with him throughout all the campaigns. Very few people get all six cultists and almost never solo. In 3 years we only did it once in two player. It’s not a requirement to move on to part three of the campaign so don’t feel under pressure. Happy investigating.

QUick question about Roland. I played through the 2nd Scenario last night solo with Roland. I had a situation where I was at a location with one clue and the masked monster. I drew a locked door encounter card during the mythos phase, and had to place it at my location, since it was the only location with a clue. The locked door states that the attached location cannot be investigated. During my investigation phase I defeated the masked monster, and used Roland's trigger ability to discover a clue. It seemed the correct thing to do, even in light of the fact that the locked door was in play. My rationale was that I was not carrying out an investigate action, but was discovering a clue by defeating the monster. I trust this was correct, otherwise I will have to play through the scenario again!!!!!

Sounds right to me. The card specifically prohibits the investigation action, it doesn't have any effect on the clues themselves. Roland's special ability applies to a fight action and so should not be effected by the Locked Door. It makes sense thematically as well, since the implication is that Roland is deducing something from the defeated enemy's corpse, and a locked door would not impact his ability to do so.

If I use Dynamite Blast to defeat an enemy in a connected location, could I still use Roland's reaction trigger ability to discover a clue at my current location?
@ArkhamChronicle Жыл бұрын
Don't see why not. It does not specify where the enemy must be. As long as the clue is at your location. :)
