I think it would've made more sense for the Bale Batman to be used in the second ending, it fits more with the "won't kill you but won't save you" ending of Batman Begins. But yeah, I get it, Bale's Batman had the no killing rule (which he broke a few times though), while Batfleck was a killing machine.

I prefer the second ending, and the message it has. Batman technically didn't kill anyone. If anything he made the humane decision. Letting someone who doesn't want to live die of their own accord isn't a "choice," it should be a right. We have a "do not resuscitate" option here for a reason. I think Batman would do it. Ra's asked for help, is clearly in pain, said it himself in Arkham City he was afraid of what the Lazarus Pit did to him despite being too addicted to quit, and hell even his own death was suicide. If anything this is like Bats pulling the plug which doesn't count as murder in real life.

Pulling the plug is still assisted suicide. Batmans rule isn't to not murder, it's to never kill. He even says it when Alfred tries to make an argument for killing him when you re enter the hospital. Pulling the plug is indirectly killing someone. You can argue that it's more "letting them die" than killing them, but the fact remains that his actions are directly responsible for Ra's losing his life. Was it humane and good for Gotham? Yeah, sure. But it's bad for Batman and his morality.

@@MedicMuffin actually it's not assisted suicide. Many people have been painfully kept alive because family or significant others wouldn't let them die in peace and they would die painfully. Pulling the plug is never assisted suicide you're letting the inevitable take its course. Its not healthy for someone to be artificially forced to stay alive when their body clearly doesn't want to continue.

Ra's having a moment of terminal lucidity when you bring him into your care and realizing his crusade has hurt more then helped, that was genuinely heartbreaking and beautiful. Even discounting the parallels that has to Batman at the end of Arkham Knight this scene was beautiful.

2:15- Well, good job, "hero". Now Ra's is free to kill and spread mayhem again. And to think, he WOULD have cured Joker in Arkham City, had the clown not made him drop the vial. This is what I don't like about Contemporary Batman: they have to HAMMER in the fact that he won't kill, and because of this rule, a lot of people end up dying. They just have to make Batman a mortal pacifist. I'm not saying he should be a cold, ruthless. maniac killing machine like The Punisher, but in SOME cases, exceptions can be made. Besides, if you choose the other option, Batman doesn't kill Ra's. He just "takes him off life support." If you do that for a loved one who is dying, that's not killing them. That's letting them go.

Your argument is the argument Batman has always struggled with. And the response has pretty much always been that if he let's himself cross that line, he won't be able to stop. If he gives into the justification of one life for many, he will end up using it to kill all the major villains in his rogues gallery. Things outside of his control (like dropping the joker's cure) aren't exceptions to the rule, they're failures on his part (or at least that's how he sees them). And taking someone off life support is still indirectly killing them. Your actions in doing so directly result in someone losing their life.

I like option A because it's true to Batman's No kill rule, however idiotic and hypocritical it has become now. But this mission is a dark reprise of the end of Arkham City where Batman tells Joker that despite everything, he would still have saved him. So I did the right thing and saved Ra's. Really don't like Option A. Batman's actions led to Nyssa's death. He went out of his way to find the cure for Ra's to save him. He doesn't need to do that. Batman isn't killing cancer patients if he doesn't cure them. If Ra's was dying because of something Batman did I could see that working. But he's been using Lazarus long before Bruce was born. He's not a killer, for not saving someone. He should be more troubled with him reviving someone and them literally killing someone 5 seconds later.

I know this's super old but I just want to share that I think there should've been a third option (triangle): Let Nyssa decide and walk away. Which causes you to fight the followers and once you clear the room Nyssa walks up to you, hand her the cure. Nyssa: *confused* Batman: "He's your father, pull the plug yourself." *leaves and screen goes black* We all know she lets him die but let them have their final moments together off screen. That would be the best ending but of course we get these options in which *both* leave a bitter, unsatisfying taste in my mouth.

It's easy to see letting Rás die as a betrayal of Batmans morals and his "no killing" rule however Arkham Knight is the very final chapter in Batman's story in the Arkham series and we've seen Batman become jaded and even break that rule in the process in nearly every final Batman story. In the Animated series he almost willingly assassinated two innocent people to create a new Batman, in the Dark Knight Returns he loses it against Joker and gouges one of his eyes with a Batarang leading Joker to laugh that he won and break his own neck, in Killing Joke we see Batman do the neck breaking for Joker! I think it's very in line for the character that such a scene exists in Arkham Knight as well and better yet it can be seen as an evolution of Batman's morality. He finally understands that while killing somebody will still cross that blood red line he isn't required to save everyone, that allowing the bloodshed to end and allowing somebody to die in order to save hundreds is the right thing to do.
