I have a different opinion: I think Ra'as was grateful to Batman. In Arkham City, Ra'as talked about how he was unable "to take much more" of the resurrections from the pit, his mind and body couldn't handle it; plus Batman declared Ra'as addicted to the pit and Ra'as didn't argue it which means it must be true. So now having had the plug pulled, and having had his own suffering due to the Pit's ill affects come to an end finally, I think Ra'as saw Batman as not condemning him but *freeing* him, hence the genuine last words that he was proud of Batman. That's how I interpreted it at the time; it actually struck an emotional chord with me.

Well, to be fair, Ra's and Joker died in different ways. For Joker, death was a deviation from his normal state (-> he was made sick by using TITAN); for Ra's, living was the deviation from his normal state (-> he was made alive again by using Lazarus), and so not giving him the Lazarus is kind of more of a reality check than it is cutting off life support. The man did live for 600 years and would've lived even longer, while the rest of humanity lived much shorter lives than that, so by conventional morality that can be seen as kind of immoral (at least unfair) in and of itself. ...or you can just say that Batman has changed since Joker's death, which is a perfectly acceptable answer as well

Honestly speaking, there are a fair number of goons that Batman beats up throughout the story of Arkham Knight (and the others), that will definitely pass away from their injuries without medical attention. Especially the ones riding in cars that Batman sideswipes. There was one guy defending a tower that I super-stunned and drop-kick comboed who went flying off the building and fell five stories. I didn’t even think it was possible in the game for a goon to fall off a building, but it was the final goon in the group (slow motion knockout), so maybe that’s why. I looked at his body in detective mode and it said “unconscious”, but he would absolutely be dead.

When I was researching different philosophies once, regarding morality and ethics, it reminds me of the times I would find people, who do make a distinction between actively taking a life versus not prolonging someone’s death. One of the examples I came across involved people, who consider direct euthanasia on a terminally ill patient to be morally wrong. However, they do consider it permissible in some cases to “pull the plug”, allow natural death to take its course, medically induce and maintain an unconscious state until death if one’s pain is that severe, and/or offer pain-relieving drugs that might hasten death as a mere potential side-effect (as oppose to the desired direct outcome). In this case, I would consider Batman refusing to give Ras the Lazarus Pit chemicals, which will just prolong his death and further poison his mind to make him even more of a monster, to be more akin to the latter. After making the choice, however, Batman still refuses to stab Ras with the sword, preferring to let him live out the rest of his life in the GCPD, since that would be more akin to the former.

Ras is proud of Bruce because he made the right decision. There was this whole talk in Arkham City between them where Ras admitted that he was addicted to the Pit, but he also said that he couldn't bear it anymore. That every resurrection took more and more from him and that the next one will most likely drain his mind completly. He also said that he doesnt want this, but is unable to stop it himself due to his addiction. When he said he is proud of Bruce he was sincere, since Bruce spared him of this exact fate. Also his code is not Broken in both endings. Ras was already dead, for years. He simply didnt comply to resurrect a mass murderer, that is nowhere close to killing someone. I think Batman (in this continuity) doesn't kill because he secretly wants the war on crime to go on forever. He's lived like a warrior all his life, so to go back to a life of peace would seem like a waste of his abilities. The death of joker made him more brutal because he knew that the Joker's death was a sign that his part in the war would soon be over.
@yourvirtualdad3 жыл бұрын
I picked to administer cure, and tbh i prefer it that way. I get that Ra's is revived and escaped, and Nyssa is also dead, but it's what Batman would've done. Even in Arkham City, Batman said he would've saved Joker even though he had just shot (one of) the only woman Batman ever loved. The only thing that is regrettable imo is that there is a Ra's-shaped hole in my GCPD now. It's also kinda dumb how they set it up to imply that you would be killing Ra's, even though he doesn't even die.

What I like about the second ending is Batman doesn't actually kill him‚ he just refuses to take part in a criminal's activity and lets the Ra's die a normal death. If a man in a hospital dies then its not batmans fault similar to this situation etc.
@angel_aeon2 жыл бұрын
To consider the 2nd option as Batman killing him is up for interpretation as Batman himself considers it as killing Ra's (as does Alfred but he tries to justify it to help his conscience). It's also pretty similar to the Joker's situation in Arkham City, the Joker like Ra's was dying due to his own actions, Ra's because of Lazarus Pit fuckery and Joker for injecting himself with Titan, the only notable difference is Joker screwed himself over by stabbing Bruce and Bruce isn't just letting a dying man rot here, he's actively aiding in his death by destroying the Lazarus Machine. I agree Option B is better in the long run, Gotham free of the assassins and a supervillain, however I like playing the Batman games with the mindset that my decisions are what Batman would also make and Option A is definitely what he would have done and the endings pretty much confirm this, if you aid in killing Ra's he congratulates you for breaking your moral code.

@@angel_aeon You don't kill him you just stop him from becoming immortal by not giving him the Lazarus juice. He even gives ras life support at the GCPD so he didn't kill him, he just stopped him from becoming immortal.

I know that it's important for Batman to not kill, but looking at the state of Ra's... It would be a mercy killing, and not a senseless and violent murder. Batman is giving Ra's what he needs... A proper death, not an eternal life living as a husk of your former self.

It doesn't matter your personal opinion real Batman would never destroy the machine. It's why in Nyssa's dying dialogue she literally says it's the aspect of him that made Talia madly in love with him. He could never bring himself to do it, it's not like that's a good trait all of the time but it's who he is.

But ra s died in arkham city already then got revived so technically its not killing since ra,s is technically already dead
@giantWario2 жыл бұрын
Was ''killing'' Grundy also breaking his code then? Ra's is already dead. He's just preventing a zombie from coming back to life again. And Ra's, the real Ra's, would want him to keep it from happening again, there was a huge speech about it in Arkham City, he knows that eventually, the thing that will come back to life won't really be him. And I'd say this time it definitely wasn't him. Ra's loved his daughters, he wouldn't have killed Nyssa.

I chose not to cure him, and honestly upon seeing what happens I think I chose the better outcome. Nyssa isn’t killed and at least Ra’s isn’t just outright killed. Even back at GCPD he utters “Proud of you” before Batman leaves his cell. It’s almost like he was wanting it all to finally end for some time, and while Batman doesn’t outright kill him like he wanted him to in Arkham City, he eventually does sort of die to the hands of Batman’s choice of destroying the Lazarus machine.

I wish the devolution that Batman goes through became more evident as the game went on. For example, the Batmobile looks like the Jokermobile in Batman's eyes, and you have to drive it with it looking like that. And every so often, you hear Batman let out an unintended giggle or laugh.
@DDuMas4 жыл бұрын
I don't think Batman would consider it killing him. Not saving him using the Lazarus pit is just natural causes. Batman certainly wouldn't consider it right to save everyone dying, using the Lazarus pit.
