You are 100% incorrect. Mining is necessary. First off it’s the reason why it doesnt pass the howey test. Second it brings a physical requirement into a virtual world. Mining makes it impossible to change the ledger without tons of energy required. It also adds a game theory element to bitcoin making it so the incentives match up with the bitcoin goals.

It is absolutely sustainable. A lot of btc mining is done using renewables or stranded energy (eg flare gas). I suggest you educate yourself on btc.
