Well Bruke is hardly a stealth ship. F16 and mig 21 has a small front rcs, but we dont count them as a stealth plane. That gaint metal antenna is not stealth at all. The only thing Bruke can do but 055 can't do is it can intercept ballistic missiles. But this ability is very limited and it can only engage one missile a time. No mutiple targets engage. Plus you need to know China dont put HQ19 on a ship, because they don't need to. There won't be any enemy ballistic missiles need to take out in years. Given the fact the US have more bases and conducted plenty more survey on every oceans and seas.Plus US has better submarine. Bruke should or maybe have some advantage in anti-sub in deep ocean. But Chinese navy won't go to deep pacific along.

Any battle, whether it's on the sea, in the air or the ground. As much as China will have its individual victories, the simple fact its forces are untried, untested, lack experience and training, lack the proper war fighting doctrine in many areas, are mostly conscripted and forced into service, are heavily politically indoctrinated, etc, etc, means they'll find themselves at a disadvantage. And, if nuclear weapons end up being used, no one will come out on top. No winners there.

Type 346B is X/S integrated dual-band AESA not c band.Only the Akizuki-class in Japan uses a small c-band integrated radar because of its low technical difficulty but little significance.

The US Navy is in the process of swapping out the old Block 4 tomahawks with the new Block 5a. These tomahawks are subsonic, but offer a 1000lb warhead and a range of just over 1000miles. The Block 5a are designed to target moving surface targets. Even at a 30% loadout, the Arleigh Burke has enough firepower to beat the Chinese Type 55. The US Navy has also been taking delivery of the LRASM which can also be ship launched in the VLS tubes. it is a stealthy missile also with a 1000lb warhead. Range is being kept quiet.

Think about it like the A350 and the Boeing 767 or Boeing 737. The boeings came out at a much earlier date and you can upgrade them (like the 737 MAX), but the platform remains an old platform. AND WRONG. Each 055 VLS is actually bigger than the 052D. In fact its even bigger than the one on the Zumwalt class. This allows more variety and newer missiles to be housed. The size of this ship can easily have over 124 or more VLS, but they chose to go with 112 VLS for bigger missiles. In fact they plan to put their new hypersonic missile and anti ship ballistic missiles into them (such as the DF-21D). Like the Burke class, it also has anti ballistic missile capability. Also should have touched on the 055 radar more since its actually more advanced than the one on the zumwalt class, and the enclosed design for the sensors as well as the slick shape of the shape makes it stealthier than the Burke and Ticondaroga cruiser. The 055 is a brand new platform made with future weapons such as railguns and lasers in mind, while the Burke and Ticondaroga class are based on an old platform. Its questionable whether if the Burke class flight 3 model (enter service in 2021 i think) will be able to beat to 055 in the overall tech. Thats cuz the Zumwalt class was suppose to be USA's next gen destroyer, but due to cost issues and incorrect planning of what the future naval threats will be (didn't expect China be develop this fast, its not a ship for carrier escorts but one to bombard shore because they didn't expect any large naval battle threats anytime soon), the Zumwalt class went from 33 orders to just 3, and now they are debating if they should retire the existing 3 due to reliability and cost issues. For perspective, each shell on the main gun from the 055 costs less than 10k, each shell from the Burke's gun costs around 40k, and each shell from the Zumwalt class costs 800k. Thats right, 800, 000 per shell from just the main gun alone. Terrible cost to effect ratio not to mention the ship broke down multiple times in the middle of the ocean already. :)

A key issue that wasn't discussed, mainly because it is incredibly difficult to assess without actual combat, was the system integration. Take a basketball team. You can have star players, but if they don't play like a team, they can be beat by a well integrated team of just good players. The 2nd and 3rd US Olympic Mens Basketball teams are an example. The 1st team played as a team. The players in teh 2nd and 3rd wer emore and mroe individuals that just wanted to say that they were on the team. For these ships, you may have a great radar system and a great missiel system, but how well is the radar and missiles integrated through teh fire control system?

They need time to learn their positions, the functions of other members, and then how to work together. The PLAN has very little blue experience, much less actual combat. They may in time develop the experience and expertise, but I feel that is still down the road. My analogy would be, if Saudi Arabia started an Olympic hockey team with only Saudi born and raised players, how good would they be the first year, especially against Canada, Russsia or Scandinavian countries with cold weather?

I think it's still too early to make a definite answer on which is the more effective ship. We still don't know a lot of the specific info about the Type 055s whereas we know a lot about the Arleigh Burkes. Once we get more info on the 055s we'll probably have Flight III Arleigh Burkes, which would make a great comparison for the 055s mostly because they would both have dual-band radars (AN/SPY-6(V)1 vs Type 346B).

It is based on archaic designs that surprisingly shared with Tico cruisers. Tech inside however is very advanced and surprisingly more adaptable than what Zumwalt prototypes actually did. Comparing two like this is hard. How likely are the anti-ship missiles going to get through? Ideally you want to be able to shoot down every missile shot at you, and be able to sink your enemy with just one of your own. If the odds are evem, then its a war of attrition. Person who fires the most first will win. Nowadays the use of drones, electronic warfare, chaff, smoke, etc.. is all important. True comparisons like this are either not known, or not discussed. I think having smarter and more intelligent weapons will trump fast missiles that arent particularly smart.

It was supposed to be the next biggest thing in naval shipbuilding to replace the aging Ticonderoga class Aegis cruisers, but instead the program fell apart and was eventually cancelled. China’s 055 is basically a less ambitious watered down version of the Zumwalt that got completed.

@@WSOJ3 You are correct. Zumwalt class is an unmitigated technical disaster. Officially skyrocketing bills ended the program (more at the end!). DDG1000 is an active vessel without mission. It is involved in a never ending series of damages and repairs and is merely used as a trial platform. DDG1001 and DDG1002 are stuck in delayed outfitting and will eventually be scrapped. Zumwalt was a ship based on a stealth design around two AGS 155mm naval artillery guns with 920 round magazine. AGS development was stopped due to excessive ammunition development costs. So the guns are unusable. Furthermore the vessel is useless for anti-submarine warfare role as there are no onboard torpedo tubes, its anti-air-warfare and ballistic missile defense capabilities are inferior to those of the old Arleigh Burke-class destroyers and its stealth is not nearly as advantageous as advertised. In particular its potent propulsion machinery together with a beam of 24.6 meters and its draft of 8.4 meters guarantee a lot of noise. The acoustic signature makes it a target of choice for submarines! The leaner and smarter design of China’s 055 should produce around 35-40% less acoustic signature. But the main weakness of Zumwalt remains its superb stealth design with inverted bow and tumblehome hull form. The design was developed when nobody in America was talking about integrating ASBM „carrier-killer“ or fleet covering ballistic missile defense capabilities on a destroyer. This was a smart Chinese idea! Only China’s 055 design and dimensions leave room for these two important further developments. And here comes finally my point: Of course nobody in America will openly admit China’s 055 is the main reason for stopping „the next biggest thing in naval shipbuilding“…

China wants peaceful resolution but the current Taiwan president keeps crossing the line. When America and China work together, great things can be achieved. I believe even with the threats from both US and China, both will stay frenemies and a healthy competition makes everyone strive harder to be better. As an example, China announced to aim for carbon neutrality by 2060, Biden just announced USA will be carbon neutral by 2050. Thats what I like to see, and if both work hard to compete on this, or perhaps even work together in certain areas, then I wouldn't be surprised if Both China and US will achieve carbon neutrality by 2040. This kind of competition benefits both countries and the world, but that cannot happen if there is no balance. A bit of balance is good and its what motivates us to stay in peace and avoid wars. :)

I got to say impressed with the Type 55, it does things such as stealth and probably AA really well. But it lacks the multifunctionality of the AB. It depends which arleigh burke variant you're comparing it to. The Flight I and II will not be that good against a type 055, but the type IIA and III will have advanced sensors, stealthier designs and better weapon systems, The only major difference between the Arleigh burke flight III and type 055 are the stealth capabilities, While the type 055 is a bit stealthier, that slight advantage will not be too much, In conclusion, they're an equal match.

No it wouldn't. It is unproven in battles, unlike the American warships have seen battles in the 20th century and the 2 decades of this century. Looks don't mean a thing, rather performance and how good a crew you have that determines how good it is.
