@@Aes880 in terms of surface to air, probably more or less than what a cruiser can carry. But ship to ship? Even though P-500 is supersonic missile intended to carry nuclear load, it isn't that much of a threat anymore. Back then, maybe. But even then, Kiev class could only carry up to 12 of them, and that's depending which ship that we're talking about.

055 looks beautiful whether classified as destroyer or cruiser. The point is whether it can fulfill its designed purpose or not. Very proud that the equipment of PLAN developed so much in the recent decade, and of course there are many to emulate, namely the propulsion system. Be humble and keep on moving forward, PLAN!

there are technically only 1 cruiser in the world, the russian kirov class. the american "cruiser" are not real cruiser, they are merely call that for political reason and since US classified their large destroyer as cruiser, they have to classified china's large destroyer as cruiser... but neither of these ship perform the role of a cruiser. instead they are intended primarily for use as destroyers to defend their fleet from attack.

Mounting AESA arrays low doesn't reduce their range at all, but it does reduce their horizon, and therefore the range at which they can detect low altitude targets.

And the reason why the S-band radar is placed lower is because the X-band radar, which is more suitable for detecting low-altitude missiles, needs to occupy the highest position. So the 055 does not need to put the whole radar on top of the mast like the FREMM multipurpose frigate.

This should not be an issue. Most systems are compatible with all the satlite navigation systems we have. So you can use beidou, gps, galileo, glonass at the same time to increase stability and accuracy. If one system is down you can still use the others. This techonology is so available that has applied to most smart phones. PLAN may have adopted this system for the obvious advantage.

I always heard the russian proverb was that "a cheap man pays twice", the work force might be cheaper but you get what you pay for and china is not a place known minimal profit margins but rather for there corruption, graft and "Tofu building construction". Though it might be true china is building more ships and a few of these big ones, most are tinny and little better armed then an LCS, while the US is massively out building in tonnage; specifically in regards to subs and Carriers and it still hasn't lost it lead in destroyers in number, tonnage and certainly not throw weight.

There are several reasons for the shoddy build quality of many buildings and other stuff. The revenue and promotion structure of local governments, basically non existent construction laws back in the days and poor oversight, or just the company wanting to save a buck because no one's going to move into that new appartment building anyways, it's a pure asset so fuck it. Hower stuff on a national level like Chinas HSR-system, the Shanghai Tower, or the modernisation of its armed forces are appart from their practical value also high profile prestige projects. Failure here wont be tollerated and anyone perceived to not have done their job will get sacked (and probably have his organs removed for good measure ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )

"Tofu building construction" can also be found in any place in the world. Just look at what happened to the collapse of Miami apartment? US GDP is only 23% of the world GDP, but military spent is 40% of the whole world's military spent. It is not going to last long. Talking about corruption, I wonder what happened to those huge amount of military spendings on Iraq and Afghanistan. The problem with US is the whole system is corrupted while only individuals are corrupted in China. Guess which case is easier to fix?
