PLEASE READ if you live in areas that can get cold in the winter! Ok, so, I went ahead and bought all the cables and all the plugs recommended here in this video and setup my Arlos with continuous power. But the problem is if the temperature drops below 0°C (32°F), the cameras DO NOT CHARGE and will die. Living in Toronto, the temperature can drop below 0°C within three to five months of the year. It's super annoying having to set this all up but end up still having to charge the batteries. I had no idea why it wasn't charging since it was winter when I set it up. I just thought it wasn't working, or I got bad cables or something. I took the Arlos down and put up Nest cameras instead and are using the Arlo cameras as backup cameras in low traffic areas now. I wish I knew this before investing heavily into Arlo. So, please note: if you live in a winter area like Canada or the upper States, just remember that the Arlo cameras WILL NOT CHARGE in 0°C (32°F) weather or lower!!

I notice on my Arlo charging brick that the voltage is 8 volts rather than the usual usb 5 volts. So I suspect that your slim wall hugger charger won't work, can you do a follow up on that? Also I see some people have problems with this brand of cable with the camera giving an error message. Has this cable worked over time for you?
@dpnmodi4 жыл бұрын
Surprised you havent posted a followup. Almost everyone I know with this cable - myself included - has ended up with a water damaged Arlo 2 Pro camera and cable within 9 months. Even after wrapping my connection in plumbers tape and sealing it on top of using this cable, it didn't last a year. Now I have an unchargable Arlo 2 Pro camera. FYI: My camera was also under a window lege and wearing Wasserstein silicon sleeves. Point of failure was the cable design and the not so waterproof external USB connection

Pls advise if my strategy makes sense ... 1) for my driveway - buy Arlo Pro 2 that I can plug-in an electrical power outlet ( outlet is located in the garage about 20 ft away), also buy the "cable" separately, correct? What length a cable to buy? 2) for my backyard - buy Arlo Pro 2 with Solar Panel (coz no power outlet there). I need one of each : plugged (for continuous power) and solar (for places that cannot be wired). Thanks for helping me decide.

Steve, Thank you for your many info videos. You are the "Prince of Arlo" ha. Pro 2 chargers have a dual voltage . 5v to operate but 9v to charge. The alternative is "Waser.." but still a bit expensive for multi camera setup. The ikit you suggest is a 5v only with two (ea.) amp outputs. Please better define this requirement and suggest a vendor more affordable. I would also like to know more about solar chargers, again affordable. I saw a few on ebay but the dual voltage is still the long pole in the tent. V/R Tom
@barbsfpv30664 жыл бұрын
ToothRock@RattlesnakeCreek yep, this is important. Before placing your cameras on these cables they need to be fully charged by the charging cable, then they will have battery power to fall back on. Otherwise as soon as the 5V power is lost the battery will still be depleted since it never charged. This has been my biggest gripe about my Arlo system, why use a standard interface with a non-standard voltage? To sell more chargers of course.

Question... I want to install the Arlo camera outside with the power cable. Does anyone know how long continues viewing of the Arlo 2 lasts? I have had other camera that stop after 10 mins of viewing
@blackworldtraveler37116 жыл бұрын
I had to use 20ft cables. Never understood why Arlo never made a 20ft. cable. I have two of my pro 2 cameras exposed to the weather and one of them developed a fault so I had to bring inside,open it,take out battery,and let dry out so it was water from the heavy rain the other night. Had it plugged in and powered inside for a few days with no issues now. I'm applying aircraft grade all weather waterproof tape to seams,hinge area,and bead of sealant where cable connects to make absolutely sure water does not get in. Also lubricated the o ring. Put covers on them as well. Mount them again and see what happens.
@SteveDOES6 жыл бұрын
Yes, this 16ft cable messes with my OCD. Why not 15' or 20'?? and if you're going to seal it you might as well do it right. haha it's good that the rain didn't damage the camera. These things aren't cheap.

How long does it take to charge when the temperature is between 50°- 70°, since Arlo mentioned this can effect charging time? Also, we live in the Northeast and get weather that often gets below 0°. I'm going to return my outdoor power adapter, since Arlo specifies it won't charge, or will charge very, very slowly with temperatures below 32°.

Yes you can use any power source. If it’s outside just make sure it’s covered to prevent weather damage.
@jesusonwheels23803 жыл бұрын
@@SteveDOES So either build some kind of weather resistant box around the outdoor socket to cover the USB charger or plug it in inside and run the cable through a hole in the wall. Is it possible to use an external wall mount while using the cable? Have you tested that?
@SteveDOES6 жыл бұрын
it depends on the mount you use. On the security wall mount I had to remove the white plastic Stop to get the cable to fit. In general having a cable plugged in does limit the ability to point the camera down. What helped in my situation was moving my mount from the front of my eves to the side.
