Did they patch in the ability to give CPUs better clubs or something? I couldn't do it, then I looked it up and found a bunch of forums of people talking about how you can't do it. And now people are saying you can, and when I try I can, BUT only when selecting a random CPU--not a specific character. Whether it got added early on or I just missed it the first time it's good that it's there, though I'm not sure why it's tied only to random characters. I just hope those little stars actually add a good amount of challenge.
@Yaered3 жыл бұрын
No, CPU's are just dumb in this game, no difficulty selection is quite terrible for it. Only thing you can do to make it harder is to have them at super star, and even then, they make random dumb decisions. Game itself is rather barebones single player side, just hope they update it to make it not so empty in content.
@Skipper936533 жыл бұрын
There is actually a hidden mode which makes the CPUs actually good at the game. Play Golf > Standard Golf > Button Controls > 1 Controller > Point Play, Take Turns > Total 2, Human 1. These settings make the CPUs good but some characters are better CPUs than others, I recommend going against a Mario, Wario, or Toad CPU with these settings because they give you a good challenge.

Over the years I've come to realize that Mario sports games are better off being rented a few times than being bought. The content just isn't there for $60 (though I guess this is subjective) and I imagine a group of people that plays it would rather jump to something more fun like Mario Party, Kart, or the go-to party game: Smash, after a while of playing Mario sports.

I want to know what is going on at Camelot. It seems like after Ultra Smash's failure, they wanted to try making innovations with their sports gameplay but end up forgetting about the variety and amount in their content. While I love that they are trying new things with the gameplay, it doesn't amount to much when there is soo little to do. Also, they seem to be kinda bad at making Story Modes now.
@UltimaKeyMaster3 жыл бұрын
It's really really weird considering Camelot as a whole is basically going though Paper Mario's slump. Their bread and butter were RPG's, damn good ones at that. Some of them even with Mario in them! But it feels like ever since Golden Sun Dark Dawn was a disappointment, they've been too afraid to make an RPG ever again. Hell, Super Rush's story mode now that I think about it, is kinda recycling the 3DS "story mode" that was tossing a Mii in and playing as them with some challenges, only this game has a level up system.

I think part of it is that they're a very small studio by today's standards - Wikipedia has them listed at 45 employees, and that figure is pretty recent too. HD development isn't easy and takes a lot of resources compared to their past work for standard definition and pixel-based systens

Having this be your first Mario Golf is like having Star Allies be your first kirby game. You wont get why people liked the series in question and you might not even be inclined to play the other games because of it. Another reason why Nintendo not re-releasing older entires only does more harm than good.
@FedoraKirb3 жыл бұрын
Maybe Nintendo should just... make better games then? They shouldn’t have to rely on their older games, they should improve on them. Don’t get me wrong, I love Star Allies, but, despite the team trying to “streamline” the Kirby experience established in Return to Dream Land, it’s a TERRIBLE first entry for anyone over the age of thirteen, since it takes the two things the series is criticized for the most (lack of difficulty and content) and turns them up to 11 them for all but the most dedicated completionists without really improving the RtDL formula in any meaningful way. Forgive me if this sounds whiny or entitled or whatever, but I shouldn’t have to tell Arlo, or anyone, to play the 3DS entries to get a feel for the series at its best to make up for Star Allies being underwhelming, even if it mostly redeemed itself through its post-launch content.

Yeah, this game was fun, but it really runs out of steam too quickly due to lack on content. I think some of the previous Mario Golf games were way better. There are no Tournament, Ring Shot, Skins Match, One-On One Putt, Club Slots, or Coin Collector modes. Those offered hours of extra gameplay. There aren't even any unlockable characters and you can't customize your Mii's outfit nearly as much as World Tour. I really hope for some more content soon as I currently shelved the game after only a couple weeks of play. Once you complete Story Mode, you're only really left with online play. I will say this game is quite fun with friends, but you'll eventually get bored of the same six courses.

I feel like games are often judged by how close to a AAA game they are- there's no way a team could've done all the things in the story that Arlo wants- not every game can be BOTW

I feel this. although I agree it feels bare bones compared to previous entries, far too many gamers feel that EVERY game must be a big huge monumental event and not a mid shelf game.

Arlo. I normally lurk, but The feeling you were looking for was replicated best in the Mario Tennis for the GBC. It was the best story mode in my opinion. It was you being a kid at school working your way up the bracket and championships until you reach the Mario level. I normally don't do sports games, but that detail kept me hooked.

Kane should have his own puppet to speak for him too. Whether the puppeteering will be good or not will just add to the charm I'm half joking but I like the imagery of a Kane puppet flailing around and giving his insight on stuff

Has anyone else noticed the Mario spin-off curse? We get amazing experiences that typically peaked during the game cube era, and then the Wii era changed things up but is still enjoyable, and then the 3ds and Wii U just ruin it all. It happened with paper Mario, Mario party, Mario tennis, and Mario golf just vanished until now. The only real exception is Mario kart

As someone who’s played Mario Golf 64, Toadstool Tour and even World Tour (for years) the options and game modes in this game you have to play with are SEVERELY lacking in comparison. I’m talking like, this shouldn’t even be $60. There was SO MUCH MORE things you could do in the previous entries that this game almost feels like a slap in the face in comparison. It’s exactly the same thing with Mario Tennis Aces. I have no clue who in the heck is making the decisions to purposely leave out the content of the previous games, but I hope they know that it’s a good way to not have customers keep coming back to the game again and again. I know it’s on purpose because they have looked back at what was in the games before to get a better idea on how to make the game for a modern audience. It’s not a far off idea that someone working on this game said,”Hey, let’s get some of those game modes and implement them here too.” However, my gut feeling tells me that someone from up top of either Camelot or Nintendo had told the development team “NO!” “Why?” “Because...money reasons!” This kinda stuff has made me feel less confident in Mario sports titles in the future. And if Mario Tennis Aces and Mario Golf Super Rush is anything to go by then I’m probably gonna pass at least on the Camelot Mario sports games. Now I’m gonna go back and have a good time on Toadstool Tour. Next Level Games PLEASE save us with another Mario Strikers game 😭

I've been staying with a friend who doesn't play games really, and we play Mario golf.together and its been a lot of fun. Everything else is a big meh. But the simple take turns golf? That's fun. Just wish the graphics, music, and courses were better!

It's my first Mario Golf game - prior to it, I played a lot Hot Shots Golf. Honestly, I have been enjoying it after a work day - super chill and takes the day's stresses away. I can see how folks wish there was more content, I'll probably have those same feels once I complete the story mode. Still excited to play with friends and family, and now curious about the one I missed on the 3DS. Maybe I'll have to pick that one up as well.

I was also a bit ticked off when I realized you couldn't change the CPU characters' skill levels. In Mario Tennis Aces I was ticked off when I saw you couldn't even select 5 sets and 6 games to be played in a match. The longest match you could choose was 1 set and 6 games, if I remember correctly.

If you liked this one, make sure to check out World Tour on the 3DS. While the Adventure mode is just as barebones as this one, the challenges for each course are pretty nice and there's a good amount of them to keep you entertained for a long time. DLC was excellent too.

At the risk of being an odd man out, I really enjoyed this game. I think the core gameplay feels great and smooth, and while I normally like slow thinking games, I find Speed Golf to be a real thrill. It adds the right kind and amount of Mario charm to the mode. I do agree with Arlo on the story mode, I’m a single-player guy, so the story mode being short was a slight disappointment and weirdly-paced. It is fun while you’re going through it (besides that one d*mn hole in XC Golf), and the boss fights are fun, but it definitely feels like Camelot was hurting to give it more time in the oven. Don’t get me wrong, the game is far from perfect, and I don’t see a full $60 worth of content, but I like what’s there. I find the mechanics very fun and natural-feeling, despite some fans’ insistence that more complex controls would make it better, this is just my own opinion. I think multiplayer content is fine though some settings are uneven like Arlo says, and more story mode content would be great. This is the kind of game that fixes its problems with content updates given its strong base imo, and I’m looking forward to them. Also, I’m a little sad Arlo doesn’t care for the OST. I get the “generic” complaint and all, maybe it’s just me, but I never get tired of Motoi Sakuraba’s work.
@metaltom20033 жыл бұрын
The sad thing is that Mario Golf (World Tour?) for 3DS had tons of content compared to this one.
