Two really important things I currently believe to be the case: 1) Ancient Dragons power over Red Lightning isn't what it seems. They don't have complete control over it i.e. the ability to create it innately within their bodies like how the lesser dragons can use their elements as breath weapons. Instead they summon it from the sky and manipulate it into the various combat abilities that their race is known for. Look closely at every Ancient Dragon's lightning attacks, Lansseax and Fortissax for example, when they use their Glaive or twin lightning stake respectively, they don't actually create the glaive/stake, instead they actually catch a bolt of red lightning that they summon from the sky and manipulate the energy into their attacks. Placidusax is the only one who is powerful enough to create it without having to call it down from the sky first, which suggests to me that the origin of the red lightning ability in the first place had to be due to some pact or devotion to the outer god that Placidusax was waiting for the return of. 2) Lanssea's Glaive's description tells us that she was female and able to take a human form. I fully admit this is going to devolve into tin foil hat territory, but what if Godwyn and her became intimate after Godwyn befriended her brother Fortissax and the war with the dragons ended? Would lend some credence to why the "Golden Lineage" is such a big deal and most importantly, why Godrick calls the lesser dragon that he grafts in his boss fight "kindred." I suspect that Godwyn and Lansseax are either the parents or grandparents, maybe even great-grandparents of Godrick and Godefroy. When Godrick successfully grafts the dragon he even yells, "Forefather's, bear witness!" This could potentially be him speaking to his own draconic ancestry and asking for recognition for channeling some of their long forgotten strength.

The mixing of Draconian and Numen blood could be what created the beastmen. They got the long-lived children they wanted, but they were cursed to be inhuman. That's an idea right out of Bloodborne, and very like Miyazaki. Marika was probably the lone success, with Farum Azula's king taking many Numen mistresses and having numerous beast children, including her half-brother Maliketh, before finally producing a child that inherited the traits of both races.

4:00 the names for various types follow certain naming conventions. For most of the ancient dragons they're latin. Placidusax is "calm, gentle, peaceful" plus "sax" which is probably from "saxum, saxi" in latin meaning "stone" Fortissax is "strong brave stone" and gransax is "tall large stone" They're not all latin though. Lansseax contains the old english word for "knife" and may mean "dull knife" Theodorix is probably a reference to theodoric the great. Since magma wyrms are former human heros and the dragons are represented by latin it's only fitting that the heros who killed them and then tried to worship them are the ones who destroyed rome and then tried to be rome. As for ekzykes, I don't think anyone has figured out which language that's from yet. Hes of a different type than the others. Maybe it's chinese or maybe it's a poor localization translation As for who names them, this type of naming seems very similar to how George RR Martin likes to name stuff. Similar to real world stuff but slightly different

Great video and very interesting theories! To be fair, though, the transformation of the Elden Beast into the Elden Ring might as well predate the Golden Order. In fact, you can mend and claim the Elden Ring while upholding an entirely different order. I think the Greater Will was behind the Age of Ancient Dragon as much as he is behind the Age of the Erdtree. All the indicators are there: the golden wings of the ancient dragons; the gold that Placidusax seems to be shedding; his golden breath (his unique characteristic as former Elden Lord); the fact the dragon worship and the Golden Order are not in conflict, since “both lightning and sigil are golden”... (Just to be sure, I’d like to stress how crucial visual clues and narration are in Miyazaki’s games, there are entire areas in Dark Souls III whose stories are told almost exclusively in this way!) Moreover, why is the Elden Ring depicted in Farum Azula so much bigger than the current one? I find it likely that a Shattering has already happened and that Marika reclaimed the Lands Between for the Greater Will, after a period of time when they had been divided among several Outer Gods. The god that fled Placidusax wasn’t an Outer God, but his god, like Marika is to Godfrey! Following this train of thought, Marika must have failed in getting all the runes at the time, and moreover she removed the rune of death from the Ring, resulting in it “shrinking”. This seems plausible to me, if I think of what happens in the game: even in the best case scenario, the Tarnished will always lack at least two runes from the original Ring, it literally cannot be wholly mended anymore. What I find even nicer is that all of the above doesn’t exclude the majority of your conclusions, especially the segment about Marika’s origins. I really hope you’ll look more into this stuff!

Also, dark souls 1 probably has the best example of environmental storytelling. You know the tower basement with the Havel knight? You can see the path broken, and the door that Havel or the Havel knight could have used as an escape route after committing treason against the dragons and ergo Gwyn. The blue tearstone ring, protecting people near death, and the servant of Gwyn, the black knight, right at the exit of the tower, suggests kind of a lot. I wish I could remember the exact name of the video but look up dark souls environmental storytelling. There’s a video that is utterly fucking insane in a good way that goes more in depth than I did.

I think the Elden Ring always existed in some form, i think the Elden Ring is what binds the world and makes anything work at all. It is the set of rules that creates the world much like how the programming of the game is the set of rules that creates the world. I think that the Elden Beast became the Elden Ring means it imparted its own set of rules onto the ring much like the player does if choosing an alternative ending. As such the god of Placidusax probably had its own version of the Elden Ring and there is some imagery in Farum Azula depicting an alternative version of the Elden Ring. About Marika i think the dragons was the first victim of the Greater Wills invasion and subjugation of the Lands Between. I think Marika was chosen by the Greater Will and as such became an empyrean, since an empyrean seems to be someone, anyone really, chosen by an Outer God to become their vessel. I would say that the Greater Will was looking for some way to take over the Lands Between, then it found Marika and made her its vessel. Then the first thing they had to do was get rid of the ancient dragons, since the god of the dragons was what controlled the Lands Between in the same way the Greater Will does it through the Elden Ring and possibly also some version of a tree. So either Marika or the Elden Beast or both defeated Placidusax, it seems Marika should have been involved since otherwise the Greater Will could just have sent down its Elden Beast at any point and just steamroll everything. Afterwards they probably founded their kingdom in some form and then i think she married Horah Loux and the rest is history.

i think Numen and Nox are closely associated in some way. We know Marika was a Numen and we know Nox were trying to create a Lord for their God, the Moon. We can also speculate that Numen (aka Nox) and dragons coexisted at the same time in the lands between; in fact they were trying to create their lord imbuing some of those sluggy silver things with thunder power, the power of dragons and the power of the elden lord of that era. So it could be Marika the empyrian who was chosen initially by the Moon and then "controlled" by the Greater Will. That's why Nox created the finger slayer blade and made the highly treason, because theh wanted to get rid completely of the control of the two finger. I also think that Placidaux was killed right before or during the war with Leyndell's forces. I mean, the only person who was able to defeat the dragon lord (or maybe called the storm lord ;) ) was the "first" elden lord, Godfrey.

The elden ring is a set of properties/laws that govern the world as we know it. Placidusax was the Elden Lord and had a completely different and separate elden ring as their own. This ring I believe can be seen in Maliketh's boss arena. There is also some evidence that the two rings when paired up make a more complete Elden Ring. You can see this if you put our Elden Ring on top of the one we find with Maliketh. By literally depicting said ring atop the other. Placidusax was the equivalent to Marika/Radagon during the Age of Dragons prior to the arival of the Greater Will. The Greater Will sent a vassal beast, the Elden Beast, to lay claim to The Lands Between and prepare it for the the Greater Will's rule. Placidusax then by these standards would have been the vessel that holds said vassal beast should the Dragon God that which Placidusax answered to operated in a similar manner as the Greater Will. I really hope we explore this period of the lore in DLC. There's also some evidence that the dragon's Elden Ring worked in tandem with The Crucible rather that completely consuming and disposing of it as the Greater Will has done and continues to do.
@GrandPaladinTyrux2 жыл бұрын
Your theory about Marika's origins makes way too much sense, I really love it! The connection between the Numen and Farum Azula makes a ton of sense to me too. My personal theories differ, though, in that I'm pretty sure Placidusax's god was the vessel of the Elden Ring before Marika, and that their civilization was blessed by the Greater Will. The Greater Will *does* have a history of retracting its blessing and forsaking people who once served it, i.e. Marika and her children when she shattered the Elden Ring. Also, considering the Godskin Apostles predate the Golden Order and are more closely tied to the Crucible, it would not surprise me if it was actually the Gloam-Eyed Queen who fought Placidusax and stripped him of some of his stone scales (which created the Ancient Dragon Smiting Stones we're able to use today). My personal theory that her relationship to Marika was sort of like Odin and Hel in the Thor movies - her firstborn daughter and a powerful weapon against her enemies that was later cast aside. Her being Melina is sort-of tangential to that idea, but it does work very well I think.

I like this theory and I believe that the betrail that Malekith talks about is not the fact that Marika had anything to do with the night of the black knives, but the fact that she abandoned Farum Azula, and created the golden order. I think that the fact that Malekith is a half brother to Marika also links her to farum azula, because he is different from Blaidd (half wolf given to ranni, not a half brother) and due to his loyalty to marika, sealing the death rune might have been an attempt to delay Placidusax death when instead, Marika use this opportunity to create the golden order and leave farum azula to crumble. Another thing that is interesting is that the royal capital turns into an ashen capital, which for me represents the interest of the golden order in removing the rune of death from the elden ring to avoid the death of the golden order itself, because eventually death would come to the elden beast

I've never had quite a good grasp on the origins of Marika (or Radagon), and I haven't crossed a strong enough theory for me to hold, but this I can get behind. Numen/Dragon royal god-child effectively forced into greatness sounds like a perfect recipe for a calculating, ambitious, duplicitous immortal. As a side note, I believe beast men may be directly related to draconians in a genetic way. The beast man shadows could, in a literal way, be half-brothers of their selected Empyreans, with an outer God being the alternative parent. Also, what if all the beastmen we see were once shadows to potential successors of the throne? The kind of people selected as Empyreans we've seen so far have not been the type to "sit down and do what you've been told" like the Greater Will seems to expect, and if that's not a coincidence, I'd wager many shadows have had to kill their counterparts through history.

You’re very close. The only place where you’re mistaken is timeline of the Elden Ring. The Elden Ring was sent by the One Great (greater will before Marika) and the ancient dragons, with the assistance of the smithing ability of the giants, forged the Elden Ring and used its power to banish the other outer gods. During this campaign some desperate residents of the Eternal City summoned a being from the stars to combat the Elden Ring, which resulted in the city being buried and a new land being built above as the meteor shower was insufficient to destroy them. From the floating city at the center of the lands between the ancient dragons then built their empire. It’s likely the Numen are from outside the lands between and settled in the Eternal City at some point, surviving the meteor shower. Some of them sided with the dragons and some with the Nox. Of those that sided with the dragons is where you get Marikas parentage.

Could the multiple heads on Placidusax be one of the first instances of grafting? Could that be related to why Godrick is so enamored with the dragon in his boss fight area? Another thought - on Astel, some have proposed that he is an envoy of the moon/stars just as the elden beast is for the greater will. Rather than being sent by the greater will to destroy the hidden cities, Astel was summoned by glintstone sorcerers to combat the greater will, but they lost control of it.

Interesting video. My personal theory is different on the timeline; I think that the EB fell on the planet and shaped the logic and order of a world that much resembled our prehistoric age with dinosaurs. I think so because pf Hyetta's statements about the GW creating distinction and therefote unhappiness, combined with Gurranq's spells saying that the beasts received intellect and then realized (took them a while) that consciousness was a threat to their way of living. I think it was this age that saw Placidusax as a lord, with the Elden Ring firmly in the hands of the kingdom of beasts, and I think it is correct to think that some notable human female figure lived with her three wolves in Farum Azula. I'd agree with you that she's likely to be Marika, otherwise Melina (or if you think the GEQ is not Melina, that leaves also her as an option). I think while beasts ruled and otber factions developed their own civilization, the beasts grew skeptical of this orderly god and vice-versa, thus the GW left Placidusax and bombed down Farum Azula, with Marika possibly taking the Ring with her after killing its bearer. This timeline hypothesis fixes a lot of holes explaining what the crucible age was like, the ring depicted in Maliketh's arena, Hyetta's words, and the fact that Marika and her crusades are undoubtedly NOT the start of all civilizations on the planet, yet the Ring appears to be exactly this. Simply put I think tbe GW started harnessing the crucible way before Marika's rise.

My two cents on the subject: the Outer god of the Dragons was some kind of One god; At some point, it was split in halves: Will and Frenzy, who would became the Greater Will and the Flame of Frenzy. Old news, alright. But this split of the One Outer god could be what drove the god of the dragonlord to go away. I also find interesting that the Goddess of Rot and the Formless mother also parallels one another: rot and fel blood are very alike ingame. Also the fates of Malenia and Miquella.

Alright, so here's my take after rewatching your video on Marika and Farum Azula; I believe that the Elden Beast was the god that fled Farum Azula, and it was originally meant for the dragons, which is why it looks like a dragon in its form. I also think you're right about Marika being born of the Eternal City and Farum Azula, perhaps living in Farum Azula for a while. I also think that perhaps the Greater Will wanted to extend its reach, and tasked Marika with taking his envoy to the Greattree, whose roots run through all the Lands Between, either grafting the Erdtree to it, or growing the Erdtree out from it. Marika becoming a 'god' by taking the Elden Beast/Ring into her and fleeing Farum Azula would then be the god fleeing. This really is just one huge family feud. Also the statues could just be the human forms of dragons. Also also, I'm super interested in why Vyke turned to the Frenzied Flame, as he was apparently known as the "Dragonspear" and he was apparently loved by Lansseax, who would regularly commune with the knights of the Ancient Dragon Cult. I feel like that is a relationship that might give us more insight into how Ancient Dragons and humans interacted.

It's implied that Vyke was in love with his maiden, and wanted to save her from burning herself. Even from his evergaol, he still protects her gravesite by invading you when you approach.

Good theory! As a small note I would like to point out that the ancient dragons seem to be golden under their stone scales, we can see it in Placidusax and his scales. This makes me think that the ancient dragons at some point were completely golden and then the grey scales started spreading on them a sickness, covering their golden scales and turning them to stone. Also them being golden relates them to the Greater Will so I believe that at some point the dragons directly served the Greater Will and then for some reason It decided to substitute their god (who was Marika's Numen mother/father) for Marika and in the process the dragons lost their blessing and their golden scales

Ok so I only checked on the Elden Ring Japanese Wiki but almost all words related to Elden is read as [エルデ] so no worries since you're right Example: 初代エルデの王, ゴッドフレイ (1st Elde Lord, Godfrey) エルデの獣 (Elde Beast)

What if what the phrasing meant by “became the Elden Ring” when referencing the Elden Beast, actually meant something akin to corrupting the original “Elden Ring” by imposing “The Greater Will” Edit: Also what if the previous “Elden Ring” was the manifestation of The Primordial Crucible itself.

I would say that you said she started the age of the Golden order. However, the age inwhich the dragon war and ect. Happened was the age of the Erdtree with Godfrey.

I had the same thought about Marika being an Eternal, was wondering why no lore video had mentioned it thus far.
@scotch48902 жыл бұрын
Lord of the eld honestly makes more sense in this context, the etymology of the world Eld has a meaning in proto Germanic, which has many appearances as a root for words in this game such as the Haligtree, that means of the age or epoch, so we can assume they meant that “Elden Lord” just means they are the lord of this particular age and when the age comes to a close a new lord of the age rises.

I like your theory about draconians and marika being child of farum azula but, recently i watched in depth analisys of placidusax which says heads of the dragonlord was 5 in their prime and one of the current 2 called "female head" while other called "male head". So i think placidusax was his own consort in a similar way to marika and radagon.Born empryan to birth an empryan.

I like it! It's a fun theory that could fill a few holes and explain a couple mysteries if true Also, so far I had been of the opinion that when Placidusax was described as an Elden Lord that it essentially meant he was the EQUIVALENT of the Elden Lord for the previous age. A great champion of his god and such. But who knows! Maybe the reason the Elden Beast is kinda dragon-shaped is because, when it first arrived, the Greater Will wanted it to deceive Placidusax into thinking it was sent by his own god instead, so that they could manipulate him and the other dragons into destroying their enemies, like the giants. And it was only after many great battles (explaining Placidusax's injuries?) and the loss of a lot of dragon lives that the Golden Order was established and the truth came out, leading to the dragons starting their war against the capital The Elden Beast's vessel being half-Draconian probably wouldn't have hurt the deception either

Unrelated, but just wanted to know what your dual curved swords build was. I noticed you were running a fire/frost dual wield, and I know fire resets the frostbite, but do you know if fire also resets the frost buildup? And what's the stat allocation and scaling for this type of build?

Placidusax was King Consort (Elden Lord) to the God that was the vassal of the Elden ring before Queen Marika (and has Children with her. Gransax, Fortisaxx, and Lanseaxx) The Elden Ring belongs to the Greater will and is the Elden Beast. Proof it existed before Marika. it is shown in its primordial form along with the Primordial Erd Tree (in the Temple walls) The God before Marika, fled and Placidusax went to the center of the storm (bveyond time) to await her return. In the meantime the Greater will Decided it would start a new Age (Age of the Erd Tree) and chose Marika as the Empyrean to become a God

how would you explain the fact that Placidaux lost three of his five heads?
@wiseguidedmissile2 жыл бұрын
Placidusax has 5 heads on his model, but the Old Lords Talisman refers to him having 4. Also, pronunciations! Placidusax: Plah-si(rhymes with Sif)-du-sax Ezyke: i(rhymes with hit)-zeke You pronounced Borealis correctly. Adula: uh-duel-a Also, let’s be real, Placidusax in his prime could probably 1v4 Godfrey, Mohg, Morgott, and Radahn at the same time.
@vulkhanasennet99612 жыл бұрын
Lansseax should be pronounced Lance-Sow/Sew, as in sewing. Just a note on your theory, the "Golden Order" wasn't the first order and The "Greater Will" has usurped its own order before. The Age of the "Golden Order" began with the Erdtree but it doesn't mean that the Elden Ring itself didn't exist before it as the Erdtree had a primordial form in the Crucible. In short I believe your statement about the Elden Ring beginning the age of the "Golden" order is false as it is simply the newest form of the Order of the Elden Ring. Meaning it is completely possible for Placidusax to be the " "Elden Lord" in the sense we think of with Godfrey or Radagon.

Placidusax is not called stormlord, it just say that his seat is in the heart of the storm but he litterly is and got nothing to do with the stormlord. The stormlord is the stormhawk king.

I disagree regarding Godfrey defeating Gransax. We really have no in-game reference to Godfrey in relation to the Ancient Dragons, only the giants and the "Stormlord" who most likely resided in Stormveil, hence the newly constructed throne room. I believe Godfrey had left the Lands Between by the time of the war with the Ancient Dragons. Gransax might have been defeated by the Tree Sentinels, Godwyn, Marika, etc. Personally, I don't see anything in Godfrey's arsenal that could have defeated Gransax, at least not in the state we find him in Lyndell. A couple other points of interest: 1) On the Elden Ring depicted in Farum Azula, at the bottom of the symbol, we can see what looks like the Rune of Death. Fitting as this is where we also see a manifested form of the rune upon defeating Maliketh. 2) Ancestral Followers are also described as "long-lived", not huge, but an interesting similarity to the description for Numen.

I think Marika had two companions. In the boss room there a statue of a child and 2 wolves. perhaps this is a reference to Maliketh and Gurranq. they both are beast clergymen when we first meet, clearly same character model, and both had a relationship with Marika (i presume) also one of them had to have a hand with the Bloodhound knights... if you have already covered this stuff then please ignore.

Maliketh and Gurranq are the same person and The statue has three wolves, not two.

for reference (and I could be wrong but I *feel* I'm correct), I believe Placidusax is pronounced "plah-sid-joo-sacks" with no pause between syllables. If anyone has any verifiable way of proving me incorrect, please do, I like to correctly pronounce things Edit: The "joo" comes from a softer D sound going instantly into an "oo" which connects to the "sax", and I don't mean the "joo" sound should have a hard J in the pronunciation.
